How did you first pronounce Tifa?

Teefa. My brother called her Tiffa, like you'd say griffin, but I called him an idiot and he cut that shit right quick, yo.

And when I'm feeling especially snarky, I call her Teefles. Because it sounds hilarious when you're drinking.

Tee fah for me. But I did pronounce Tidus as Tie dus. If it's pronounced Tee dus the creators can go eat a dick for all I care.

Oh all you people pronouncing her name correctly can go stuff it. I DON'T BELIEVE YOUR LIES! :sad3:

TEE-fuh. I always pronounce names correctly. :awesome:

Also, I do believe Tidus' name is supposed to be TIE-DUS. Just like Michael Peters told me in 7th Grade, "It's not TEE-DUS! He's not a titty!"

LOL I was a Tiff-a at first but after hearing her name being pronounced in Advent Children and other forms of media, I felt pretty bad. No English common sense, I guess... :'(

I always thought it was Tee-fa when I first played it, and then I heard it as Tee-fa in Advent Children. Since Square Enix made the film I'm stickin' with it that way. Although it was hard to take two villains named Loz and Yazoo seriously.

I first pronounced it like [tifɐ] and still do, because its easier and I don't care much to pronounce her name based on its roots and original phonemes (in other words, I'm lazy about it), but sometimes I do pronounce it like [tɪfə] because its just a form of Tiffany. Wish my brain would stick to one already. Hmpf!

@Gabe
You shouldn't really feel that way for pronouncing it differently, its not like you are really wrong here. Doesn't make you "stupid" or lacking in "English common sense" or anything like that. You can say it tee-fa or teff-a! "Tiffany" is just a modern form of "Theophania" (Old Greek) and "Tifa" is just a form of "Tiffany".

Don't worry, Tifa, you're not alone! I also mispronounced Tifa's name for the longest. My dad would always pronounce it as "Tih-fah," && since I was 7 at the time, it made sense to me, so I didn't question it. xD;

It took me awhile to re-program my brain to pronounce it as "Tee-fah." ...I still sorta prefer my flawed version. :p

I did pronounce it Tee-Fah at first, but I also said Tih-fa sometimes, because I liked the idea that her name could fully be Tiffany, it was cool to me. But I have always known her real name was pronounced Tee-fah, I was an anime kid when I was younger so I think that why xD

I still like Tih-fa a little more though :lew:

There's only one way to pronounce it and that is tee-fah. I think it's irrelevant that it's short for Tiffany. Dick is short for Richard, but it is pronounced dick, not rich-ard/rich-ed.
This answered it for me. :hmmm:

Anyway... I always pronounced it as "TEE-fah" like "Peeta". I can't really stand the sound of the other way. >.>

i started saying it as Tee-fa just like the japanese pronunciation cause it sounded right

Its Tiff-a. Thats how Ive always pronounced it and anyone elses Ive known. Im English, so I guess I pronounce things differently to other cultures. I think its hard when it comes to pronunciation, this is where this Aeries/Aerith argument comes in. Personally I dont think it matters what way you pronounce Tifa. I certainly wouldnt have a go at a fellow fan for the way they say a name. When pronunciation is completely relative to your dialect and tongue.

Did anyone else call her "Taifa"? With a long I? I did, I mean, that's how it is spelled :hmph:

Also Tifa I called Sephiroth "Seph-EER-oth". :sad3:

Tee-fa. Any other way doesn't sound right. That and Advent Children or Kingdom Hearts clear it up for those who believe it the other way.

I pronounced her name Tiff-a until I read it's really pronounced Tee-fa :lew:

I think you can easily make the mistake of mispronouncing it because of it's spelling...it could really go either way depending on how you first say it.

I'd always pronounced her name Tea-fah. My friend Brad always called her Tih-fah, and it always made me cringe for some reason lol.

I used to say it as Ti-Fah for like a year and then I was like no it must be Tee-Fah. I then found out the proper way from just watching the movie haha.
