On PC. Well technically it's new. :D

It sounds pretty cool with the achievments, online support etc.

I can't see getting into buying anything VII without slightly updated graphics though.(the game hasnt aged well, popeye arms an shit.) So it's a no go for me. Not purchasing something I already have exactly.

Makes me wonder why SE's choosing to go this route with milking it.

But if it came down to outright remaking the game & leaving key parts out that gave it it's charm i wouldn't be with that. So it is what it is.

I haven't really done any research on the topic (i'm lazy), but from my understanding... Its just a port with Achievement/Trophies with a little online stuff?

I am only bothered with the character booster.....I was discussing this with my mate last night. The game as a whole is pretty much a challenging game but it's not difficult that it requires you to press that boosting button. Having that there defeats the concept of actually playing the game as it should be, oh your under levelled go and train some more etc. The only use that button has is if say a person wanted to quickly play it and just wanted to blast through it in terms of just seeing the story aspect of it.

I don't understand why SquareEnix thinks that we need our hands holded when we play these games. We are not babies. We are old enough to cross the street without help SE.

The whole FFXIII battle system where you have a choice to just let the computer do anything for you is just really annoying; now this. Does SE think that we cry whenever Sephiroth walks through the flames coz he's a scary man, need a blanket or need the nightlight on or something ?

:ffs:

I think that the reason they put the character booster is so the newest gaming generation can play final fantasy 7 and see the entire story without having to stop and grind (thus possibly forgetting parts, though I don't know why they would). Everyone who's a gamer talks about 7 religiously (again, don't know why) and so that might be a way for the newest gaming age to be able to talk about it as well, thus keeping 7 on 'top'.

I'm iffy on this. I've already got 7 on my Ps3 and PSP. I don't think I'll buy this.

I for one am curious what they did to the game's engine in general to get it to run under modern hardware/software. If the updates mean it's now possible to mod the game to add all kinds of stuff that was impossible before, I'd definitely consider buying it to see what enhancements could be made. The enhancements made to the old PC version were pretty impressive considering how limited the engine was; since this runs in DX9, at the very least the textures on 3D scenes/characters could be improved to being HD. I'd assume enhanced meshes could be done, too.

That being said...I'll probably wait to see what other modders say before I take the dive.

I pretty much agree with this. I've played FFVII several times and while it is a challenging game at first, it was never THAT difficult. I honestly don't understand the point of the character booster. But to be honest.....for someone who uses cheats quite a bit (guilty as charged), I may use it once. lol. But I usually only do things like that when I've played the game once through.

I would prefer the character booster not be there so I can challenge myself. But just knowing it's there may make me curious and/or tempted. lol.

I think the character booster is kind of dumb - but that's coming from someone who's actually grinded up to lvl 99 characters across the board for fun, haha. The achievements are a really cool idea and I'd love to see it implemented in a patch of sorts to the PS3/PSP version that would support trophies. A farfetched idea, but a fun one nonetheless.

I'm just glad they haven't forgotten about the game. Maybe we'll see more FF VII stuff in the future, and I know that's what I'd like.

If the upgrades to the game include running the graphics at 720 or 1080 display, I'll probably get it. I have my old copy that I bought for my PC a long time ago, but I had to use mods to get it to run on my computer with newer hardware. And I've noticed that the game drops to 15 frames per second when I'm in battles. If the new game fixes those issues, I'd buy it but probably later on down the road if they are selling it at full price. I've already started playing through the game on my PS3, so I'm probably not going to be restarting the game anytime soon.

I think the character booster should only unlock once you've beaten the game once [Just like on Diablo 2 where Hardcore mode doesn't unlock until you defeat Diablo at least once]. That would give older players a tool to experiment and enjoy the game is other various ways without killing the challenge for new players.

I've briefly heard something about a new-ish release for the PC, but I haven't looked into it.
However, I can also say that I'm not really interested, either. Like you kind of mentioned, I'm not really interested in anything that's FFVII related unless it's a remake. But even then, I'm not so sure.

I just bought it and I will check it out.
Atleast I will be able to continue my LP of it. It will just take a day or 2 for me to get to the same point that I was at and it will go faster because of not having to edit the videos and such

And if the graphics are good I will write it and also do a stream if people are interrested.

Edit: Also checked the Achievments (I havent installed it yet, I am installing right now and you can check it on your account), there isnt that many achievments. Those are just for stuff that you usually go after (except Aeris last limit if they havent implemented a way to get her back). Its like "Win your first fight" "use Clouds 1st limit" and such so no biggies

Egh, the character booster makes me cringe at the thought of it. Why wouldn't an RPG newcomer press the character boost button? Honestly, it's diminishing the game of its original fun. Now you can just rush through it and not work for anything. Tis bullshit.

The character booster is the biggest joke. The achievements are meh, at best. Not really worth it, to be honest.

Not worth the by, IMO, folks.

Checked it quickly now before I am going out with the GF.
1. It is the same blocky characters but it runs better
2. The polygons are better, they are not choppy but smooth
3. Everything reacts better

So if people say it is not worth it, think of it as 10€ for a game that before costed 50€ and now you can play it on every computer you want.
I say it is worth it but I am not gonna use that Boost. I am old school player and can go without the boost and will do it.
It will be a big thing for my LP because NOW I WILL BE ABLE TO CONTINUE WITH IT!!! Hooray!!

Sorry for that :P

As Cloud himself said "Not interested" in this PC port, i dont get the achievements things because most of them are pathetically easy (Like beating the first boss) or stupid (Pass the game with just one gun/Weapon/Skill wahtever) so that doesnt call my attention in the slightest.

The character boost is stupid to a "normal gamer" like me but i can understand why some people would get excited for this feature as they feel great owning a Boss or Enemy (Like when i feel good dismembering enemieswith Kratos after a tough battle) witouth a sweat.

Personally, I thought playing through FFVII was a great experience, one that would have most undoubtedly been ruined if I could have simply pressed a "max stat" button to smash through the tough parts. One of the defining things about Final Fantasy games is that sooner or later (for most people) you will be challenged and be driven to either level up or improve your characters somehow.

FFXIII's battle system was a joke because it almost played itself. I think SE needs to not be afraid of providing a game that can and will give players those memorable tough moments we hold close when thinking of Final Fantasy.

All in all, the character booster will only ruin people's first experience of Final Fantasy if this happens to be their first playthrough of a Final Fantasy game. I will not be buying this version of the game, or any version, until one with better graphics comes out, you know, a true remake. Curse SE for milking one of its best games...

So yeah, erm...

Apparently this is real, and yes, you will need to be online all the time - and I don't recall reading from anywhere beforehand that you essentially need to "log in" to play what ought to have just been a downloadable game. Bloody online DRM I suspect. Fuck that then.

Then again, I've no plans to even get this re-release. The character booster thing is just laughable anyway considering like I said somewhere before, it just cheapens getting the "achievement" for something like bashing the Ruby Weapon.

It's just a rerelease of the port done in 1998 (that fixed a few typos, etc) with a shitty DRM. Pretty pointless.
