While Final Fantasy games in general last a lot of hours, I think it's pretty well known that FFXII is one of the longest in the entire series. That said, I'm interested to hear how long it took everyone else to go through it, considering it could easily take a couple hundred hours if you did every single side quest and hunt and all that.

Me, I finished the game at just over 53 hours last night, and that was rushing like crazy through the last ten hours or so. Only did a few hunts and barely kept my characters leveled up sufficiently (normally I had just one person left standing at the end of difficult boss fights) because I just got a PS3 and I'm anxious to get going on FFXIII. It was a wonderful game though; especially the last several hours. If I didn't have another game waiting to be played, I could happily have spent another fifty hours to more fully experience the incredible world of Ivalice, but oh well. My 53 hours is what it is.

The only and first time I played the game it took me 63 hours but I did atleast half the hunts and was just getting started on some sidequests but then I got bored and eventually I decided to just complete the game and leave completion for the next playthrough.

Well, I sold it at Gamestop the week following my acquisition of it. So, that was rather fast. Oh wait...BEAT it? Oh..hahha..j..no..just..no.

I was in the last chapter at about 27 hours. However, I never finished it. Just got burned out and annoyed with it, traded it into GameFly after a few months.

First play rushin 50.

Getting 95% of things 200 hours, the longest played FF game however the replay value of this game is almost zero.

I completed the main story with a couple of side quests and LOTS of exploring as I grinded in about 55 hours. :hmmm: My characters were levelled between 44ish (Vaan) and 55 (Fran). :lew:

I'll tackle those side quests one day. :lew: The world of Ivalice is beauuutiful!

The first playthrough was a tad over 40 hours; didn't do much for side quests and whatnot. Just wanted to experience the story.

On the subsequent playthroughs, though, I was pushing 150 to 170 hours. Took my sweet time, and tried everything. The hunts took a nice bit of time.

I will say for me that I didn't finish the game till around the 150 hour mark, I got right up to the end of the game, buggered off and went and done all the hunts including getting all the best weapons...beat Yazmiat and then went to do the last boss in which I went downstairs to get a drink, come back and the fight was then finishing :P

So yes what these people are posting around the 40-60 mark is about right for the game and I also agree that the replay value of the game is nothing.

As for the original question: It took me around 60 hours to get to the stage where I could defeat the final boss playing regularly. It took me in the region of 150 hours to get to that stage when playing 122333, and I've spent around 40 hours on my level 86 Vaan with 99 of almost all items prior to meeting any other character (but I haven't played that one in about 3 years now).

I'm currently playing through a second 122333 but this time soloing as Penelo, and it's so far taken me 43 hours to get to Golmore Jungle with all Marks up to this point defeated (Atomos took forever with Hi-Potions!).

What?

One of the most extensive games in the Final Fantasy series and you claim the reply value is nothing?
There are so many different ways you could play through FFXII, to name a few:

Low Level Game [LLG/122333] (don't level up at all, there's a great guide by porthioskanan on this).
No License Board [NLB] (don't touch the license board)
No License Board Low Level Game [NLBLLG] (combine the above, incredibly difficult challenge)
Solo (play as just one of the characters)

There are also so many different ways you could limit yourself on the License Board to make the game more of a challenge.
You could even play only part of the game, for instance, one of the ways I played FFXII was to not speak to Old Dalan at the start of the game and instead explore the limited parts of the game and collect as many items and complete as much of the license board as possible with Vaan before meeting any of the other characters.

To add to that, after you've beaten the final boss there is so much you can still do:

1. Finish all the hunts.
2. Complete the bestiary.
3. Get all characters to level 99.
4. Complete the license board on all characters.
5. Collect all items (craziness!)

You must be living under a rock if you think there is no replay value to FFXII. You could easily get hundreds if not thousands of hours worth of enjoyable gameplay out of FFXII.

My first playthrough, with none of the sidequests or hunts (beyond the hunts you had to do to advance in the game, which I believe was the grand total of one), because I never grasp the idea of sidequests the first time I play a FF game, I think my finishing time was about 70 hours. With a lot of the hunts done, I hit 100 hours, and with every hunt completed apart from Yiazmat, I passed the 130 hour mark. And I still didn't have all of the Espers or defeat Yiazmat or anything...

I think it's a very lengthy game if you want to get everything done

I'm not sure how long hourly, but it took me about 4 days, I'd say. I remember playing it in my brother's room while he played Black Ops. It was a hilarious time.

Ah, I miss this game.

The game as a whole? No, I have not beaten it yet. The main quest? Longer than it SHOULD have taken... Side quests and hunts were a constant distraction. I have to say though that it would have been very short had I only followed the main quest line. So probably 2-3 days worth of gameplay... It was a very nice experience.

To be honest, I really procrastinated when it came to this game :hmmm: I remember I was stuck, got really pissed off (I was too stubborn to get any info ? ) and quit for like 6 months XD. but I didn't do any of the hunts either, so idunno .

I think I played 58 hours total >.> <.<

Ah, I miss this game.

Just the idea of comparing such a deep, technical universe like that of FFXII to the recycled shallowness of CoD sounds hilarious to me :P

And oddly enough, I find myself missing this game, too. It was the first FF I tried to play, but found it too complex to get into as a newbie to the series, so I played through a couple other FFs first and then came back. After almost being so technical as to drive me away, the game ended up drawing me in so far...and now I honestly feel like I could go back and take 50 more hours on it quite happily. The game has great replay value to me.

Yeah, it's a pretty cool game. I love that there is no useless romance story either. That's pretty sweet, since every one of them is poorly written anyways lol

Got the game for Christmas in 2006.

Still playing through it. It's actually on my screen right now. I've been close to the end for awhile now, but I really am enjoying XII, so I'm postponing finishing it by taking care of sidequests (just recently beat Yiazmat and Omega, and working on this dreaded fishing rod side quest right now). Final Fantasy games are events for me, and always have been. I usually take an extremely long time to play through them. I tend to explore the entire gamescape, really immerse myself, and then take months off between play. And since I never play through games more than once, I really try and squeeze every drop of enjoyment out of the good ones that I can, especially FF ones. I actually just bought Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy Anthology, and I have Final Fantasy XIII still in the shrink wrap, so as much as I really don't want XII to end, I should get on with it in the next week or so.

First play-through was only completing about 25% of the hunts and almost the same % of the other side quests sitting just shy of 89hrs. I really took my time to explore and play around with the licenses and gambits. And now 6 years later (nearly) I'm on my second game right now and I'm actually doing the side quests and hunts. I haven't gone in to Archades yet so the final little storyline awaits when I get finished. Sitting at 45hrs right now. :)

I was at about the 40 hour mark when I faced and beat the final boss in FFXII. I'm usually a completionist, or at least try to have my characters as beefed up as possible before I go diving into the final dungeon of games.

I went through and got all the Espers and tried to take on Yazmat and Omega Mark XII before beating the game, just to see what kind of chance I had against these guys.

So overall, around 40 before the final face-off.
