How much japanese do you know? Share!

I am a japanese pro.
Not really.

I can count to ten. I had to look up the spelling to be non-mistake-making but I can still do it:

Ichi, Ni, San, Shi, Go, Roku, Shichi, Hachi, Kyuu, Ju

I took karate for 3 years when I was a bit younger and the practices were very in keeping with japanese culture. Which is stupid, but I'm not hating, I'm bragging.
And I don't think we ever did reps past a ten-count, so that's as far as I'll ever be able to go.

Im learning still. I love Japan and its culture, so I do want to learn the lingo. Its beautiful and I want to someday go to Japan and not be a divvy tourist! Its difficult, but Im determined. Want to try and do a college or uni course also.

"Fainaru Fantaji Seben", "Guran Turisumo Faibu" and "Metaru Gia Soriddo".

I don't know very much admittedly, but soon I will be fluent in Japanese game names.

Something I wrote to help out the beginners. I'm not fluent by any means, but I think I have a decent vocabulary and understanding of the grammar. Don't ask me about keigo though. I still don't really understand that stuff.
P.S. This is more aimed at strangers that are about your age. Its not informal, but not super polite either.

はじめまして。私はマシューです。24歳です。WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY学生です。専門はInternational Studies。日本の音楽や映画や日本人が好きです。
私は日本語をちょっとわかります。でも、私は学ぶことを試みている。どうぞよろしくおねがいします。

Basic Translation:

Hello. I'm Matthew. 24 years old. A student WESTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY. My major is International Studies. I like Japanese music, movies, and Japanese people.
I know a little Japanese. But I'm trying to learn. Thank you very much.

If you change the blue words, you can make it about yourself easily. However, the part about my major is obviously specific for University students. You can change the red word to this if you are a high school student 高校.

I am planing on visiting Japan in early 2012, and am going to take an essential Japanese course to help me out.
At the moment I only know the odd sentence or two.

Does anyone here know how to say "Do you Speak English?" in Japanese and show me how to pronounce it? :)

I'm planning on taking Japanese at my new college come Fall, but it may be a bit hard considering I'm also planning to double major in Creative Writing and Forensic Science. Lmao.

Currently I only know that "Urusai!" means "Shut up!" xD

あなたは英語を話しますか?
:Anata wa eigo o hanashimasu ka?
: Do you speak English?

If you need help phonetically, its
Ah-nah-tah wah ay-go o ha-nah-shi-mahs kah?

I've been studying Japanese for 3 years now and I love it. I can get along in Japan fairly well. Recently I have been studying more keigo so that I can do more business talk. Keigo is honorific language used when speaking with people above you in status.

Example: If you were speaking to your friend you can simply say:

"Nan to itta?" ("What did you say?")

If you were speaking to your boss at work:

"...Nan to ossharimashita ka?" ('What did you say?")

Example: If you were speaking to your friend you can simply say:

"Nan to itta?" ("What did you say?")

If you were speaking to your boss at work:

"...Nan to ossharimashita ka?" ('What did you say?")

PRIME example of why I hate keigo. Going from 2 syllables to 6 that barely resembles the dictionary form of the word.

Don't think many Japanese use "Shi" anymore. It means "death" or something like that. essentially a bad omen or something of a sort.

Hmm i know a bit. here's some of what i know.

Ohayo-Gozaimasu: Good Morning
Konnichiwa: Hello
Konbanwa: Good evening
Okaeri nasai: Welcome Back (i think)
Oyasumi: Goodnight

i know from 1-99

Futari wa: we are
kawaii: cute
Kirei pretty
Kirai: Hate
Anata: Used as a term of en-dearment (such as "hey honey")
Shine (sp?): Die!
Urusai!: Shut up!
Baka!: Stupid!
Aho!: Idiot!

I was in an Anime club for three years in high school, and though they did teach japanese, I only learned one phrase, and I'mnot even sure I'm going to spell it right.

Hamishite, but it's pernounced "Ham-e-ah-mash-ta.

I'm a noob at the japanese language. :sad3:

I'm working on a 15 minutes speech for my advanced Japanese class in September, and it's about pets and pet culture in Japan. I now know the counters for small pets and for big pets, and also how to say about 50 different breeds of dog.

でも明日私は高校でイギリスの生活のプレゼンをする.まだ、しなかった .w.やばい!
