I hate Twilight!

Dislike Twilight not because of Meyers imagination or writing skills but because of the bad messages it sends across to it's young female fanbase. Some of the messages are a bit concerning and it kinda makes you worried for the future of the next generation..

Kinda dislike the most how Edward acts almost like a stalker and Meyer tries to collide the stalker behaviors with what seems charming caring and romantic ie- Edward watches Bella while she is sleeping outside her bedroom window. Just found that borderline shocking..

Not to mention Bella seems kinda feeble without Edward and it kinda seems like Meyer is trying to insult her own gender by making her main female character unreliable unless her man/ Vampire is protecting/ saving her.. xD

But basically all the novel series is saying is that " Edward is super good looking... "
That's it. And Fan/ Fangirls just fall into the[ * Squee !- Edward is so hawt ! " * ]trap that Meyer had created throughout her novel series. Personally reckon that Edward is the most dry and useless character ever created in a novel. He basically has no character and he is boring as hell. Talk about brainwashing readers to be shallow..

Okay. Maybe do Have a problem with Meyers Imagination and writing style..

I picked up the first one a few months back to see what it was all about, not expecting anything great, mind, just some fluffy entertainment, and...

Wow, it is really bad, isn't it? The writing is really mediocre, so is the plot, but it wouldn't offend me except Bella is really icky as a heroine. She has no skills and no hobbies, she treats her friends like crap, she's totally codependent. Ew, ew, ew. I read somewhere else that if you can put yourself in Bella's shoes and find the whole thing to be a pretty cool fantasy, you'll probably like it. Otherwise, there's nothing there for you. I agree totally.

I can get why teenagers might like it. I appeals to basic human desires to be in love, be beautiful, and live forever. But several grown women I know love this crap, people in their forties and fifties, and why why why why why??? Can anyone tell me? It really makes me depressed about the human race and my gender.

Glad I spotted this thread. Twilight is complete and utter rubbish, really. The plot is a cheap knock off of a dozen other books already around, Bella is flat as a board (her character, not her chest), Edward is too perfect. I decided to give them a chance one day, after hearing how OMG great they were, and I was severly disappointed. It really just cashes in on the poor emotionally disturb kids at my high school, who think they're vampires, and bite each other and things. I think it's really sad that an author has to stoop to that level to sell her books.

On a completely unrealted note, there's a rumor that I've heard that Meyer is a mormon, is that true? Has anyone else heard it? Not that it really has anything to do with me disliking the books, I'm just wondering.

@ the part in bold: Lolwut? I highly doubt Meyer was intentionally cashing in on weirdo teens, it kinda just happened that way.

Twilight
... It's basically Meyer's romantic fantasies, made into a novel (and subsequent series -_-), and thrust into the global spotlight. It just so happens that these romantic fantasies of Meyer's are, for lack of a better word, naive - just like the romantic views of God-knows-how-many kids these days.

Put the two together, and you have a global phenomenon complete with the fan base from hell.

Okay, but who else in their right mind would think that a 100=year old being watching you sleep when you don't even know who is is romantic? It gave me the creeps, I'm free to admit. I don't know who else she expected to read it.

Meyers basically just wanted to write out her perfect fantasy on some guy she's love to do. Even Robert was like WHAT A CREEPY BITCH
http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/articl...rt-of-stephenie-meyer-and-her-twilight-series

And that being said, how can a good series possibly come from that?
LOL, is that quote from him real? I'm honestly asking, because I guess I'm just surprised that something so bold would come from the very star of the movies.

That being said, he does kind of have a point... From everything that I've heard or read about her process of creating this novel, it does kind of seem like it started as some sex dream she decided to write a journal entry about.

I mean, all stories have to start from something, and it's not uncommon for dreams to act as inspirations since they're like endless pools of creativity. It's just not too often that it starts with an apparent "sex" dream, and I suppose that may explain a lot about the way these books turned out. =/

Really, a sex dream, didn't know that, but I can see it. Why else would there be that sex scene in the last books that was so odd, and weird. I bet that was the dream. Of course, I'm sure other books have been inspired by sex dreams, but I would also be sure that they would be erotica.

I don't like Twilight because it is obviously written for women. I am a man so it did not appeal to me. I will not watch passed the first movie. I didn't like it so whats the point? Seriously Vampires and werewolves are cool, but if any guy has read Twilight and gotten obsessed (and they have) well then it's wonderful they got in touch with their feminine side because these are not vampire and werewolf stories written for a man.

Now I don't care that it has all this fame or whatever but the way people obsess over it is pretty pathetic. You'll never see me out in the real world obsessing about any fictional work to the degree that I have seen some Twilight fans. WHY? you may ask, because that would be a sign of the craziiiies.

Also the main character chick in the movie should at least be hot. Shes not attractive at all.

Is this a support group? :phew: Finally, I have people to cry to when my mother brings home boxes of special-edition candy hearts with "Edward" on the cover and says she wants the thing on the cover more than the candy

I'm so glad they did such utterly shameless promotion of the series as teenie bopper mulch--I might've gotten curious otherwise and wasted time reading it. Honestly, if they want people to take the story seriously and believe it's actually about something, they need to promote it with more than a few glammed-up posters of teenagers wearing boring clothes and too much makeup. I can't think of any stories I've ever liked that were promoted that way, as a matter of fact.

I hate Twilight :jtc:

But it seemes like where ever I go I have to see it everywhere from people crying about how awesome it is, to people crying about how much it sucks...Its everywhere! :rage:

For example - I went to eat some Burger King to my surprise what do I find there? Twilight advertisments! My gawd when will Twilight just die down :ffs:

My point is everyone who hates it talks about it as much as the fans do if not more :argh:

I think its more in to hate it than to like it...?

I'll admit to having read the books, the books are definatley infinatley better than the films which just seem to be far too aimed at a niche audience to be universally enjoyable.

I sat and painstakingly watched the first film and honestly felt like vomitting, they made Edward out to be a sad strange little stalker and Bella to be a Bi-Polar obsessive thats crazed about all things vampire (in the books she has an interest in vampires that borderlines unhealthy but the films took that interest to dillusional)

With the second film it was once again all about pre-maddonna's and a slightly disturbing stalkerish obsessive relationship, the person that wrote the script and did the casting for these films ought to be ashamed of themselves as they have outright blasphemed the book in every way possible!

I'm indifferent to the series, to be honest. I attempted to read the first book, and put it down in disgust after I'd read about half of it. I'm extremely picky about what I read, and in my opinion, Stephenie Meyer makes the worst kind of fanfiction look appealing. It baffles me how series like this can become so popular - as if Harry Potter and the Inheritance Cycle weren't bad enough...

Still, like I said, I'm picky, and these series just don't appeal to me. Eragon came the closest to being appealing, but it was written so poorly I couldn't even finish it. I got further in Twilight than I did in Eragon though, which is something!

Normally this sort of literature isn't something I would even consider reading - I only did to see what all the fuss was about. I still don't see what all the fuss is about, so...meh, whatever. Its a craze. It'll blow over soon enough. We all have our crazes, so...yeah, whatever.

I haven't gone to see the film, and I don't plan to. Whilst it is possible for good films to come from books, they are few and far between, and they don't come about from currently popular books.

Come on, people. It's not too much to ask for a request of more in-depth posts. As it is, the recent posts seem a bit spammy.

First and final warning. Thank you. :dave:

I think I last replied to this back in January 2009 and that was before I had read the books and only seen the first movie.

Well I bought the books a while after and I seriously did not make it past the second chapter of the first book.

I was freaking bored outta my mind. I felt drained and tired after reading a few pages and had to put it down.

Eventually I ended up selling the books due to them just sitting on my bookshelf, knowing I'd never attempt picking them up again.

I can handle watching the movies that are a little more fast paced, but the books are a snore in my opinion. Well the first one is at least. :gonk:

I think if it wasn't so extremely focused on the romantic features, it could be a good series. The first book set an interesting stage for what could be, but the following three novels burned that stage to pieces. I enjoyed the fact that the werewolves were simply shape-shifters, because the half-man, half-wolf thing is beyond overused. The love triangle was relatable, as these things happen often.

But I agree that it was almost a sickening approach to love. There is love, and there is obsession. Edward and Bella fall to the latter, and should be scooped up and dumped into a looney bin.(although I understand that vampires mate for life in this universe, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be able to get his mac on elsewhere)

My biggest problem is the ending of the series, and Stephanie Meyer's complete selfishness as an author. The ending of Breaking dawn
is absolutely stupid. There are over one-hundred pages of build-up towards the battle with the Volturi and their followers, and they just stop before the battle begins. Bella shows off her protection powers and then they leave. And this is what I was most interested in, the powers. So much could be done, but it never will be.

Because Stephanie is a selfish bitch. And I've looked her up, she might as well wear a red flag with "Bitch" across it emboldened times ten. Just because her work was leaked she stopped writing it entirely and will never release anything else. Just when the story let it's creative value shine, she throws in the towel.

When people see the movie, shit will be thrown at the screen. (unless the screen-writers have any sense.)

The only thing I feel about twilight is a sense of shame Stephanie Meier managed to write a book series & get published while many aspiring authors have not.

:argor:

I still don't get it.

It's just not a good plot, it's been done, it'd make a better porn movie (which let's just be honest, it basically is, just of the softcore variety). I mean all I can think is why do you have to choose Bella? Why not have sex with the dead guy and the part animal?

And I love when fans act like they can totally relate to that choice. I'm just like "Well I had to choose between a dead body and my dog last week so I relate too" :wacky:
