It would have been chaos =O

Chaos: 8D?

Not you, jackass.

Okay in case there are some people in the crowd who don't know when Final Fantasy first came over here to the US we couldn't get all of the original games dub. So the first three Final Fantasy games we got was I, IV and VI. We renamed IV II and VI III since that's the order they came out over here. But instead of renaming Final Fantasy VII IV we decided to keep the same numbers. Good thing too. Can you imagine the mass confusion that would have came from keeping them different?

Square's staple title FFVII would have been known as IV to us. Japan would have raged at us and stuff 8D It would have gone like this

Final Fantasy IV (FFVII)
Final Fantasy V (FFVIII)
Final Fantasy VI (FFIX)
Final Fantasy VII (FFX)
Final Fantasy VII-2 (FFX-2)
Final Fantasy VIII (FFXI)
Final Fantasy IX (FFXII)
Final Fantasy X (FFXIII)
Final Fantasy XI (FFXIV)

8D

You think there would have been mass confusion if America had kept renaming them all or am I alone in that thought?

Americans.
:britt:

I can't imagine a scarier world.
FFVII-2?
Tifa, Aeris, Yuffie, it's showtime girls.

*facepalm*

Hahahahahahahaha! I'm sure that what the Japanese would have thought if we renamed it. Oh the countless parodies that would have been made too. Then again I'm sure they would have loved the idea of those girls hardly wearing any clothes like the cast of X-2...

Oh Yuna, you tease. You don't want to leave anything to the imagination at all in this game do you? What girl power? Oh yeah, girl power. That's awesome *stares at Yuna*

Rofl, I know.
I couldn't help myself though.

As for XIII being X... can you imagine Sin attacking Cocoon?

If anything, I'm doing it the wrong way around, aren't I?
Would have liked to see Cloud and Sephiroth fight on the moon, though.
Maybe the rocket would have actually made it to space instead of blowing up against Meteor?

If that were to happen, and assuming that different people call them differently, it will be extremely difficult to discuss these games anywhere.

American title number follower: have you played FFVII-2?
Japanese title number follower: What? there's a sequel to FFVII? My childhood is ruined!!!
American title number follower: Not really. by the way, we have Yuna, Rikku and Paine in this one
Japanese title number follower: WHAT!!!! what can be worse than FFX characters in FFVII world!!!
American title number follower: No no you got it wrong. Yuna is not from FFX... FFX is the newest game. With Snow and Lightning...

I already hate having to explain this to people...the only thing worse is if I have to explain it multiple times...to the same person

Sadly, I know why IV and VI were renamed to II and III here (because people would ask where II, III, and V went, it's bad enough that people were already wondering where IV, V, and VI went...). But that still doesn't explain why they didn't just give us II, III, and V to begin with. I think I had heard that they WERE working on localizing II, but when they were doing it, the Super Nintendo had recently come out, so they shifted their focus on localizing IV. Something like that at least.

At least you guys got some of the games.

Us Brits didn't get any of the games until the PS era! FFVII was the first FF released in Europe, which is ridiculous. I hate living in Europe sometimes, we don't get enough love games-wise.
The first time we played I, II, IV, V and VI was on the PS ports, too.

Oh God, the confusion would be immense.

Final Fantasy XI (FFXIV)

Correct me if I am wrong but XI and XIV are both MMORPGs, right? So how confusing would it be that the only two MMORPG FF games actually get confused with title-wise.

Also what about Advent Children? Would that become FFIV: Advent Children? Or would they keep it as FFVII: Advent Children, and confusing the crap out of the American audience? They'll be like "Tidus is fighting Sephiroth? Oh wait, it's Cloud. Wait... this doesn't make sense. Why is Valefor attacking the city?" Lol.
BTW, FFIV: Advent Children would probably be a funny name to an FFIV spinoff, starring Palom and Porom in all their glory.

:awesome:

Just reading that while imagining the whole scene taking place was incredible. Good thing they changed the numbers when they did, the mass panic would have been equal to the reaction of Spira when Sin came into town, if not more :awesome::awesome::awesome:
