I once made a thread, and people argued with me that hotter does not exist that its all opinion that some one is more beautiful , sexy attractive .

Well what about real results , opinions. Maybe it does not define what you believe but certainly the majority opinion can unify us in some way to create a sense of practicability . The most anticipated, supposed obvious choses are blatantly there

Err.. all this shows is that more people think that one is hotter than the other. But it's just opinion so there are no *real* results, because that would be ignoring the fact that 5 people think that Heidi is better than Adriana. To them, Heidi could be the hottest thing ever.

You could use any example to show this, like music. It's like trying to say that a single which got to number 1 with the most sales must be the best song ever, when we all know that isn't the case. Sure, it might be SOME people's favourite song but there will be a whole group of others who think that it's processed tripe. There are no 'real' results because at the end of the day, everyone has different ideas of what is better.

I can't believe you're starting this back up. That right there proves that is all based on opinion. People obviously think Miranda Kerr is more gorgeous than Tyra Banks and that is their opinion. Those screenshots prove absolutely nothing, except that more people think she's prettier, but if you see there were also two votes that Tyra is prettier. It is all based on opinion. I don't know how else to make you understand that. Just because there is a majority doesn't mean anything. It's their opinion. That doesn't make it fact.

I agree with Sayuri and Yzma. It's their opinion not a universal fact. This poll proves nothing and was probably just created out of pure bordom. Do you truly believe that even the people who voted on the poll, now that the poll has finished, believe that the votes make it fact? I do not.

*puts on a nerd hat*

This is really a textbook case of the Bandwagon fallacy, which essentially states that if the majority of people believe something or carry a certain preference, then that automatically makes it right and valid and so on.

This is clearly not the case. Just because a ton of people believe in Christianity doesn't mean it's right, same with any religion. This is also the case when it comes to this stuff: sexual attractiveness and so on. Everything is based on opinion, in these terms, and while it may be right in YOUR opinion (or the majority's opinion), that doesn't necessarily mean that it IS right. It's why humans are so destructive with each other: people believe that their view is the best to the point of willing to hurt others to make it known.

The only thing you've shown here is that people can suscept to 'norms'. This is purely my opinion, but its cases like this that make me glad I don't like something because someone else likes it.

You forgot to take off your nerd hat.

However, the point of the thread is not to find out if someone is "hotter" than someone else, it is to find out if there is a definition of hotter in terms of people.
Besides, opinions are not real results, so this thread is either obsolete or is there something I'm missing?

If it was FACT then the vote would've be completely cast in one person's direction, without anyone voting for the minority.

But because it's OPINION, the vote swings in both directions, no matter how much more votes one got than the other.

Right you are, and no one get offended the thread was just for fun . I am going swimming. Opinions are results in this case. They voted on who is hotter more beautiful .

Take care all just had to start this again. HAAHA

Obviously, beauty and attractiveness is subjective, a matter of opinion. However, there are certain traits which more people may find attractive, and some people share similar views of what is more attractive, either naturally or through culture and peer influence. It does not make someone universally more attractive, but liked by more people. Popular opinion. As has been said, if more people vote for one person for some reason, it might be seen as "in" to top up that vote.
Also, personal traits may contribute to a particular choice.

Correction: they voted on who they think is hotter or more beautiful. That's just the thing with you. There is no hotter or more beautiful. It's irrelevant because everybody is going to have difference in opinion. I don't understand why you can't seem to comprehend this.

Take care all just had to start this again. HAAHA
You think it's funny that you started all this yet again, just for people to tell you how ridiculous you may sound or how much sense you don't make? Wow...:ffs: you're even worse than I thought.

Two polls on a stupid gaming site don't count for anything. If you want sources to back up whatever the fuck it is you're trying to get at, I suggest you do a large university study. Oh, and Tyra Banks and Miranda Kerr are both butterfaces, that second poll is asking for people to pick the lesser of two evils.

Right you are, and no one get offended the thread was just for fun . I am going swimming. Opinions are results in this case. They voted on who is hotter more beautiful .

Well that confirms it, you're just a troll.

However, if you ask one person the question and they answer Miranda Kerr then it is a fact that that person prefers her. Maybe that is where you are getting confused. If you found out some percentages then maybe we could work on those, e.g. if you found out what percentage out of 10, 20 and 50 people like one more, then find out an average, and come back, we could maybe help.

Why are people so offended . I have some responses that I really enjoyed reading in this thread. I never forced, demanded for any of you to post so if you despise me or my threads why waste time with any of it ?

To be honest, I made this thread for responses. Does it make me a troll , maybe . I am just studying , and having fun with my time. I was not out to offend anyone, and I can admit to being wrong but I think its clear and simple that certain features are generally thought to be sexy and or beautiful .

I'm offended by the ignorance in your initial post. As cliche as it is, the saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is true. Hell, look at Casanova (or whatever his name is now), he likes fat chicks. Attraction is entirely dependent on one's personal tastes.

Different example: alot of people have an immense fear of spiders, yet some people out there find them beautiful creatures.

Yes, you are a troll.

You can admit to being wrong? Good lord god, that's a first. And yes, while there are certain features almost everyone is going to agree is attractive, you will always have people of varying tastes. So now matter how many people agree someone is attractive, you cannot state as a fact that the person is attractive. It's all a matter of perception.

YOU DON'T GET IT.
Attractiveness is entirely subjective. If you think I 'am choosing words with an obvious bias' that you can't understand then google subjective.

Exactly the point I was going to make, except it is Liquidis Zeromus, and he never was Casanova:monster:
He thinks that fat/large women are hot, sexy beautiful, attractive etc. I don't agree.
I think not fat wimminz are hawt.
Some guys like wimminz with big b00bzors and other like women with small ones. The same with asses etc.
There are even clubs for people who find amputees attractive.
You've heard of Adonis right? The most beautiful person ever? Not everyone would have found him attractive.
And suggesting that everyone should find certain features attractive is offensive.
Lets use my example of big breasts.
If you say that they are beautiful then you are implying that the people who don't find them attractive aren't normal.
Also what about gay people and bi-sexual people, how do they fit into your system. Do Bi's find everyone one attractive?

The second poll is 2 to 15. 2 to 15 ......Doesnt that mean anything to anyone that is more than 7 times.

17 people just as worthy of opinions as all you nerds at this gaming forum.

No offense I have been a part of a few forums.

Make a poll here and let's see if the results change. Numbers don't mean anything at all. Opinions are opinions and if they think one chick is hotter than the other, then alright, fair enough. They are worthy of their own opinion, yes, but that doesn't mean it's a fact. There's a difference there. Big difference.

17 people , 2 out of 17 people thought she was not hot. That has to mean that at least within that group....generally speaking she is hotter than the other.

Oh for realz? Shit, I suck :elmo:

Ah, and Adonis was Greek, which brings culture to the mix. Various cultures around the world have different ideas of beauty.

No it doesn't. It's 17 people out of 6 billion and however many odd numbers are on this earth.

We may be nerds but at least we don't incessantly babble on about how subjective shit is fact and how this reality isn't really reality :wacky:

She meant make a poll on THIS site, because people here are likely to have varying opinions than those you posted. Can't believe that went over your head.

The reason why those polls are invalid, are for a few reasons:

1. Only about 17 people voted in that poll. 17. The world's population is currently estimated at 6,602,224,175. The opinions of 17 people are...quite insignificant.
2. Those poll results are from a gaming community. It can be argued that 'gamers' may have an attraction to certain types of people, where-as people not on this gaming site could prefer a different sort of beauty.
3. That poll offers a very minimal amount of results. As mentioned earlier, 17 people is not enough for anyone to declare definitive proof. Most surveys that are made into statistics, involve thousands of people. To prove that everyone thinks the same about beauty, you would have to actually...poll EVERYONE.

As far as beauty goes, when I studied the perception of beauty within Psychology class, we were taught that pictures that people found to be the most attractive [surveyed by over 200,000 votes], was a picture that mixed the facial characteristics of all cultures...was found the most attractive. They also found that the more 'average' of faces, was also considered to be the most attractive. This means, that the people who voted in that survey, preferred women with a more plain, smooth, video-game like appearance. It also showed that people preferred the more average, yet exotic features for a face.

The bottom line is, many different areas of the world, and many different types of people, have a different idea of what 'beauty' is. As mentioned by others earlier, beauty is purely subjective. It also changes over time. When most people look at old paintings, they go: "Wow, THESE people were considered beautiful?!" This does prove a bit that perhaps there is a popularized idea of beauty...but that doesn't mean that all people consider that to be attractive.
