I always hear people saying they never like the game because of the battle system. Now thats fine, I'm not bashing anyone having different opinions...but what I don't get is how you can say that when there IS a system implemented in the game that effectively replicates the turn based system in essence. All you have to do is go into the config and at the top there is battle mode. Choose wait and then whenever you want to do an attack or something it pauses for you, if you find that you need more reaction time than you can turn the speed down to the slowest and voila thats what we're looking for.

It still isn't the same. All it does is asks you what to do and as soon as you press attack, thats it. You can press X and it will freeze if you want to cast magic but it still isn't the same turn-based as before as the attacks gauge goes too quick and therefore losing that turnbased feel. Besides, I usually have my games on active rather than wait.

I love the new battle system. I feel its refreashing. The ability to stop everything while in battle is freakin sweet. If FFXII had the same battle system I would have felt that is was same ole same ole. The fact that SE revamped the whole system (to a point) is great and I expect that FFXIII will be just as evolved as FFXII.

Thats the whole point of coming out with new games. To evolve, change, and create new settings, and create change. Change is what inspires these new platforms, graphics, ect... Without it we would all be playing Super Mario #69 for the SNES.

I feel that the ff12 battle system is just a ripoff of the summoner one. without chain attacks that you control. Its constrictive cos i like to strike when i need it not totally avoid fighting whilst waiting for the gauage to fill up then have 1 attack and repeat for 50 hours. ff12 reduced the stratergy involved in killing minor monsters. which made the whole experiance of battling feel like your waiting but with more effort involved. in all ff12 is the only final fantasy i got bored with half way through.

I can't get enough of the FFXII battle system, I just love it. I love the fact that I don't even have to press buttons in order to level up. ^_^

So basically, you love the fact that you don't even need to play the game to avoid one of the major parts of the game? Is this what fun is? They may aswell just make another movie if people are too lazy to even press buttons.

obviously you do have to press buttons. You dont have to press buttons for the negalmuur thing but some people like me dont use it. its an optional thing. It doesnt reflect the flaws of FFXII battle system

I like the new battle system, now I think it's kinda fun to enter battle which I didn't find it before.

i just cant get the hang of it. you want to fight one fiend in perticular and then 6 or 7 other feinds come up behind you and start attacking you! thats what i hate about it!!

its a godsend when that happens and theyre undead while your trying to level up... use curaja and you get so much exp. and LP in one go. its only good when your decent levels. And believe me, first time i played it i thought i would never get the hang of the gambit system. I was like "isnt gambit a mutant from X-men?" lol. but its cool

I like the new battle system plan and simple. In the other Final Fantasy's where you get that annoying swirl out of nowhere and it throws you into a random battle. To me it was just unbelievable that mosters would stand in a line and let you hit them, then attack you when your done. This battle system is more action based and the gambits just take out some of the tediousness (is that a word?) of the random mobs. Plus every mob gives you LP and you need LP to get your abilities so it was worth it to fight every mob you see. I still found myself manually healing or disspelling and buffing my party during boss battles and in emergencies.

My second favorite has to be Final Fantasy 7, it was very creative with the linking of magic to produce huge chain spells and added attributes to your weapons. If they made something like that again I would be extreamly happy.

I also think that Final Fantasy X was the most boring, you just followed the given track you had to go on and could jump to other grids but it was just boring and to easy to Max your stats.

i prefer this battle system brcause i prefer to see the enemy before i fight them

I love Gambits. End of story.
Gambits just gave strategy a new edge. ^___^
I think FFXII's battle system is very fun.

Done properly, you don't. I tested it out when I was at Tchita Uplands. I just set up the gambits and all I had to do was move the analog. I was even flicking through forums etc while running around fighting people. I couldn't even see what was going on (TV is behind me when I'm on the PC) but whenever I turned round my characters where okay. That's the only time I used gambits, just way too lazy for me.

EDIT: And that is coming from someone who is incredibly lazy!

As I said...gambits are a godsend...
But I do like to participate in battles myself, so I typically keep my main character gambit-free. =]

I've currently started a new game and I'm planning on not using gambits and battle system on active throughout the game as I despise the lazyness of gambits.

It's just as easy without gambits.
Especially since...say you give your characters a command and you decide to change it, you can cancel their command and give them a new one. I liked that. =]

XII's is the best battle system thus far for me. It's not mindless hack and slashing like in KH it's a mixture of turn-based and real-time battling. The battles are so addictive, you just flow from one enemy to the next; feeling the wait of your weaponry as all your party pound on the fiend with there armaments. It also makes getting exp. much more easier as you battle far more enemies in a space of time. The system also makes the enemies more challenging and because of that the Gambit system is a great eddition. I think that having to control all characters in such an intense, active battle wouldn't be that great for me. Just being able to concentrate on the leader of the group while the Gambits take control of the others is great. Two thumbs up at my end.

I will always love random battles and I wouldn't complain if they brang it back with a twist to make it appeal to the PS3. Turn-based battles will always have a place in my heart.
