Lol... yeah, I have to agree, Pong, along with the Atari system was the catalyst for most of the industry. From that moment on every subsequent game released was more complex and improved upon through its graphics, ex. Pac Man... More levels, controls and... color.

Well, there are the obvious ones (Final Fantasy, Silent Hill, Zelda), but a little-known game called Streets of Rage kick-started the entire genre, or the very least, made it popular.

I would of thought Golden Axe started that genre.

Although Dungeons and Dragons is not a counsel game. (Well kinda is now....PC game and a PSP game.) Dungeons and Dragons did influence many role playing games today. Some of the ideas and monsters were directly taken from Dungeons and Dragons.

As for Dragon Warrior (I guess Final Fantasy as well), the game(s) did influence Japan. The Japanese aren't use to the Western folk lore so it was something new to them. (Wizards, Knights, Dragons, Angels etc.)

There have been a gret deal of D&D video games through the years, but it wasn't before Eye of the Beholder (1990), that they made a ground breaking title.

It recived many awards and standing ovations, but there we're quite a few games in the same styke at that time, so to call it a genre break through would be to extreme.

THe cross over from the D&D-book/board experience would easily be considered a first, since this also was an interactive experience (but not a digital one).

I think that Bioshock redefines FPS, Resident Evil 4 redefines action and Neverwinter Nights was quite the success for RPGs.
