This is something I have been plotting for quite the time, a GM run stat based system. Consider it an incredibly simplified D&D system.
If you haven't played D&D or any other pen&paper RP, fear not as this is very newbie friendly.
The premise of this is simple, you have your character and control him (or her), that's it. You don't decide if your attacks hit or miss, this is up to dice and situational stuff.
Basically, you go "Fox charges and uses [skill] on the Goblin" and you can flavor post it however you want. I as the GM roll some dice that are tied to your and the goblin's stats and it either hits or misses, damage taken out of these rolls and your stats as well.
Due to this you will indeed have HP, which means that you can and might die depending on your choices and actions.
How it will work is that once a class is chosen/created, I will make up a skill tree, of sorts... Imagine most computer RPG's, you can co that path, or this path, and stuff like this.
It can give you a stat boost, a passive that aids you tossing toiletpaper or an ability that lets you shank someoen as long as they are dancing a ballet.
Naturally not as random or vague as this, but Backstabbing, whirlwind attacks, more spells or abilities... etc.
As for the first chapter of this (yes, I have several chapters planned) it will be a small dungeon crawl, more than nothing it is for me to play-balance things and for you to get used to the system.
An example post can be like this.
"Fox rounds the corner to see a goblin who seems to be eating something. Using it's distraction he readies his swords and charges, aiming a dual-strike at it's neck"
In effect all I do here is "charge and Dual-strike". Let the stats and rolls play out what happens. Naturally as the goblin is busy and has focus elsewhere this will work in Fox' favor in this context. However the RP'ers are allowed to flavorpost this as you wish so that you can get more out of it, but this will be a type of RP where one is indeed allowed to post one-liners as long as it contains what the GM needs.
Classes and races are 100% open to the players as long as it's agreed and plotted with the GM. You can be a common archer, mage, figher or rogue. Or we can discuss and create a whip-fighter, scythe fighter or beast-tamer each with their own skillsets and skill trees.
Naturally things will be detailed more should there be enough interest in this. But I know it will be fun as long as enough players are on-board.
NOTE: This will be a RP for those that might not have all the time in the world to RP. I have varying time with hobbies and work as well.
Due to this I will allow that some might not post more than 1-3 times a week and that is fine. Most fighting will not commence untill all fighters have posted.
So, if player A, C and D has posted their choices, the 'round' will not play out until player B has given their choice. Though it might play out faster if all players post the same day so all of this will vary. Given that one-liners are fine and all I don't think this will be a problem as quality and quantity of words in the post is much less of a problem compared to "normal" RP's.
So, what do you think?
Do I have enough interest to make this into a real thing?
Feel free to ask questions and come with ideas, I'm very open and bendable regarding this one.
