I've had this in mind for a while, and want to gauge interest before I go on to do a crapton of writing before knowing if I'll get enough people.
Regardless, this will be set in a not too distant future. Perhaps twenty years from now, shall we say. There won't be tremendous advances in the field of technology or science as we know it. Two rather large nations will have gone to war. Consider these nations to have the approximate size and firepower of western Europe and Russia, or America.
Anyway, this story will be set in a relatively small town off the coast of one of the nations. We'll say the smaller one because everyone loves an underdog. This particular town will be under military watch but will not be active participants in the war itself. However, it's considered worth protecting by a small subset of the military because it could be desirable to the enemy army.
The story won't begin as a semi dystopian affair, but it will become so rather quickly. The military of the other nation will drop bombs; both anti structure and napalm. Think of the damage on the scale of a large, localized earthquake. Buildings and power will be down, and food will be rather scarce too. Due to this, things will obviously go downhill very quickly.
Because we need a common enemy to fight, I'll likely accept one bio from someone in a position of power. A mayor or something. Perhaps an army general who tries to rope the citizens under his control, taking advantage of the power struggle and general chaos to seize rule from under whoever would typically have it.
Because the area is no longer worth holding, and because it's that kind of story, really, the army will likely pull out of the town and refuse to give aid. It's the middle of a war blah blah blah. I want this story to feel very detached from the general war scenario. A sequel or later on in the RP may allow you to get involved in a grander scale, but for now, we'll keep it firmly localized in the town and the surrounding areas (which, for your reference, will largely be bare roads, forest, coast. Perhaps a mountain or two.) I want this to feel cut off. Almost claustrophobic. That's the intent.
I'm iffy about introducing powers, but if I do, it won't be incredibly well thought out. We'll likely go with the bombs rupturing latent magical ley lines beneath the ground and leaking power into the surrounding area. You never know, this might result in earthquakes, tsunamis, forest fires and other natural disasters as we proceed, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. This RP will be about humanity and how it copes when penned off from the world with no real hope of rescue. Whether or not we give said humans powers to potentially abuse on one another is still something I'm thinking over. Your opinions are perfectly welcome on this matter, however.
Thoughts, opinions, questions?
