[Interest Check] Unnamed RP in the Making

8 pages and 3,000 words in so far. I'm still not half way done. I just basically post this to warn you all the the sign up thread will require a lot of reading. Also, as I go over the rules and information, I sound like a Nazi. So I will explain a few things here first to let everyone know what they may be getting themselves into.

However, let me make a couple of things clear. There will be no mindreading in this RP. There will be no psychic characters or anything of the nature. I’ve learned over the years of me RPing, that characters that can read minds and psychics are a bad idea. And as I said in the Interest Check thread, I EXPECT THE BARE MINIMUM OF TWO POSTS A WEEK. If you can’t make this miniscule amount of posts, do not join. If you join anyway, don’t pick a character that will become essential to the plot (for example, one of the three villains). If you find that you can’t make this after you have joined, just give me a reason why, and I may bend the rule for you if the excuse is valid enough.


I shouldn’t have to jump on your ass about posting. You signed up voluntarily, and it’s something you should want to do. I’m not going to slow the RP to a halt because one jackass decides not to post. Things will move on without you. And no, I am not going to be accepting “lack of inspiration” as an excuse. THIS MEANS YOU. I don’t mean to be an ass, but I’m not letting it slide this time.

ONE MORE THING, this is a RP. You are expected to collaborate with other people. If you find your character has nothing to do, talk to a few people in the sign up/discussion thread. It’s what it’s there for. Work things out with others and simply collaborate with your fellow RPers, post in the sign up thread, send them a PM, just do something about it. Don’t get discouraged and get all emo and refuse to post because no one rode your nuts to interact with your character. Be assertive, and just talk things out if you want your character to have something to do. Some of the greatest posts I’ve ever written have come from working things out with my fellow RPers to get something going.

That being said, if three people are posting about going to a bar, PLEASE don’t just have your character barge in and start acting like they’re hot shit. It won’t hurt to ask, it really won’t. Remember that scene in EA2 when a few characters were eating in the dining hall and then a certain someone showed up and we all effectively face palmed? Yeah, let’s try and avoid that. If you want to interact with characters that obviously have something going on, just ask. Odds are, they’ll let you, but no one likes people just dropping in unexpectedly.

Now, all that being said, have fun. I know I sound like a Nazi bastard right about now, but I want to attempt to put annoyances, no matter how minor, to a minimum. Don’t let this discourage you. Although I may sound like a Nazi, I’m really not… most of the time. Just post, have fun, don’t be a dick, and you’ll be okay. Below, you’ll find the plot outline and loads of other nifty shit. Be prepared to read though, it’s a lot of information.

That is all out of the start of the SU/D thread I will be posting in the future. Diar, I know I kind of called you out right there, but you're a good RPer, and I really hate it when you just suddenly disappear and refuse to post and things end up slowing down and then dying because of it (example: Desire). My apologies, but I had to get that off my chest.

SS, you do it as well. I know you have reasons, but if you plan on joining, your ass better get to a library or something. Because I will not be slowing this train down once it starts.

Like I said, if this RP dies, so be it. I wanted to try something new, and I wanted to hold it to a higher standard. Welcome to the Ringo Standard. I'm not going to sacrifice the quality of the RP just so a few people can go wank for a week or two because they don't feel like posting. And yes, I'm aware I sound like the biggest asshole in the world right now. :mokken:

I don't mind waiting on quality, rest assured. It's also good to hear that I'm not the excluded one. :wacky:

If the scope is as large as you say it is (which from your progress so far sounds pretty legit) I'm down for it. And without school to worry about, I've got pretty much all the free time I need.

I definitely don't mind waiting on quality, but I do mind waiting for people to post. I understand that some may have things to do, and I understand that some people get sick, have obligations, etc. However, too many times I've seen many people just quit posting all together, or post once a month and believe it to be acceptable.

It's not.

When you join a RP, you sign up for something and you and everyone else in it have to keep things moving. I'm not expecting award winning posts, I just want posts. I don't want them to be shit, but I'm not going to bite someones head off for not writing up a plot summery of The Dark Tower series either.

Two posts a week isn't much. It really isn't. So if one can't manage that, then I don't want them here. But I swear, some people want to act like it's too much. I shouldn't have to hound someone down just for a post. RPing is something you should want to do. Not something I should have to force you to do.

So yeah, I may sound like a damned Nazi, but I don't care. I just want a good RP, with people writing up good posts in a reasonable amount of time, with people who have written up good characters, with people who know what they're doing.

That being said, SS, I don't want to single you out, but I just remembered something. You have the nasty habit of making characters that can dodge shit in the same fashion that Neo dodges bullets in the Matrix. I'm not going to have that here. Your character will not be able to dodge everything. No questions asked. You'll be surprised at how badly that gets on peoples nerves.

Anyway, I didn't want to be a douche about it. Like I said, sorry for calling you out on it. But I really just want this to be a success. While we're at it though... Do something in Desire. :mokken:
 
Okay, I've got it finished. I worked my ass off on it today. It's 12 pages long, and I've even got the bio format finished. There will probably be flaws, but I expect you guys to lend and hand and point out inconsistencies and the whatnot.

Once I finish up my bio for it, I'll either post it tonight, or sometime tomorrow. It depends on what you guys want.

And no worries Ringo. I kinda was expecting those to be brought up sooner or later. I'm planning on just taking something of a side-line role, in case things do come up, so I can disappear/die and it won't affect anything.

That said, I also have learned that dodging attacks all the time? Bad. It's a habit I formed from RPing fist fights, very long fists fight, where all of your moves are trapped within seconds, and if you don't need to be hit, you try to do your utmost to keep yourself from being hit. With ranged things, that tends to be a lot easier to do.

So, this character is going to be designed as purely a, basically, brick wall. I'm going to try and make him more focused on sheer stamina ability to out-last the opponent blow-for-blow. No dodging, just taking hits and seeing if he can out-last. Something new for me with this kind of character, so it'll be interesting.
