kicking off marvel's cinematic phase 2, and given how successful the avengers and the whole of phase 1 was, i'm surprised no one's already made this thread. the final trailer was just released yesterday:

i'm very very very excited for this. ben kingsley seems the perfect casting choice to play the mandarin, and guy pearce looks sinister in a suave way :ohoho:

This looks pretty excellent so far I have to say, I particularly like his opening monologue in the second trailer. He has the Extremis Armour but I'll be curious to see if he achieves control over it the same way as the comics.

i'm interested in seeing how the extremis stuff works out too. i'm quite new to the iron man comics, so i only know a little about how it worked then but from the trailers, it looks like the extremis virus will cause the armour to act of it's own accord in some way.

im going on Saturday, but I have to take the kid... not sure that's my best Idea but its the only way I can watch it lol

I don't feel as bad now hahaha, I am wondering if IMAX 3D is abit much for an 8 year old though, guess il soon find out. If she ends up deaf, she'll jut get louder. Not into that.

i'm surprised this thread hasn't been posted in more. what did everyone think of it?

i thought it was completely excellent. i was entertained throughout, and it didn't feel like a long film. it was much more light hearted than the trailers made it out to be, i was expecting a very dark and almost grim feeling film, a little like the tone of the dark knight trilogy. it was a very well written film, and shane black did a good job of taking on the director's job. i imagine it's very easy to direct robert downey jr, especially as iron man because i imagine he is basically just tony stark in his day to day life.
i expect there will be a huge fan backlash over some things, but i shan't say anything for spoilers. i can understand their frustration, but i'm so glad they took it down that path.

I did not enjoy it. Most of it was predictable. They ruined the mandarins (idk why, in the first Iron Man, the leader of the terrorists had a ring exactly like the onethe Mandarin has, so ruining him was pointless). they made a weak villain with a weak motive. And overall the ending was just too random. Most of it wasnt being led to that, idk why they chose to end it like that. It didnt end on a high note. I enjoy comedy and iron man has a lot of it but this time it took almost the entire movie, even right after the dramatic parts. Little clip after the credits isnt worth watching either.

I agree with you so much. Probably the worst out of all the super hero Avenger movies. IMO.

I personally thought it was amazing, I'm a big fan of the cinematic universe, and Iron Man is my favourite hero of the lot, this film doesn't change my mind. The twist could have been without, because I thought the scene was funny but the lack of an expected plot lame; specially with what we were shown through all the trailers for the film. And when I saw the first two films I was sure if the people with the right power really knuckled down they could make something like what we see in the films easily. With the third Iron Man I kind of felt let down in that respect, armour flying miles initiated by nanobots in Stark's body, and DNA regeneration somehow causing extreme temperature changes as-well as extreme strength. I don't know, just seemed a bit far-fetched with respect to other technology demonstrated so far. Still a great film though.

I absolutely loved the film. I couldn't care less that

(If you haven't seen the film, I really don't suggest you open this spoiler.)
The Mandarin was actually some actor who had no idea what he was actually doing.

I was more confused at first, but once I got over that initial shock, I thought it was a very funny twist. And it was far more believable than him being more like the original character from the comics.

Ben Kingsley was friggin' awesome, as expected, as was Don Cheadle and of course Robert Downey Jr. I liked how much more of a presence War Machine/Iron Patriot had in the film. I didn't like how it didn't explain why he wasn't in Avengers though. Well, at least until I read the Iron Man 3 prequel comics. The humour in it was good, but I also liked how much more toned down the film was. It came across to me as a far more meaningful film than Iron Man 2, which I found to be little more than just a filler for the Avengers. The action in Iron Man 3 was absolutely amazing. Anyone who has seen the trailers obviously knows that Tony Stark has his own army of remote controlled Iron Man armours. This was one of the things I was looking forwards to seeing the most, and I wasn't disappointed. It made for one of the coolest action scenes I have ever seen. :D

I can't imagine there being any future stand-alone Iron Man films, however. This third installment wrapped things up pretty nicely, and I hear that Robert Downey Jr. doesn't feel like he has it in him to do another Iron Man film. He is now in his fifties, afterall. :O Unless they step back to the comics that were printed back in the 70's, when Tony Stark never actually wore the Iron Man suits, then I can't imagine there being another stand-alone film anytime soon.

One thing I was kinda disappointed with, was that there was no lead up to any of the other Phase 2 films, or even Avengers 2. I missed the end credits scene because my son badly needed to go to the toilet. :lew: But I hear that's just more of a funny little easter egg in which it shows Tony Stark relating his story to Bruce Banner, who had fallen asleep. There were rumours about Iron Man going into space for this film, and that there actually are designs for a Deep Space Suit for the films. I think this just means that he's probably gonna cameo in Guardians of The Galaxy next year, a film which I am looking forwards to seeing more than any of the other Phase 2 films. :D

But all in all, I really enjoyed this film. We didn't watch it in 3D because my son is a month short of turning three and there's no chance in hell he'd wear a pair of those glasses for over two hours. xD But I don't think that lessened the experience much at all, having compared it to watching Avengers in 3D myself. But yeah, my son also really enjoyed this film. :monster:

i thought having tony spend more time out of the suit than in it was a good move as well. it gave his character a more human side, and the final battle at the end was more interesting than in the first two films because it wasn't just two machines beating the crap out of each other.
i can't see there being a fourth iron man either, it was all wrapped up nicely at the end there, but it does make me wonder how he'll come back for the avengers 2 (if he does at all). will it be as iron man, or just tony stark?

I have a feeling Iron Man will be in Avengers 2, but I can't imagine there being any further solo films. It would be pretty bad if he was to just not be in that film much at all unless there was good reason.

Ideally, I wouldn't want Marvel Studios to replace Robert Downey Jr. I would rather them actually replace Tony Stark if it should come to that. It wouldn't be too unreasonable to have Rhodey become the new Iron Man, while Stark steps back to just making the suits.

I do agree with why not a lot of people havent yet got into this thread to discuss this movie...haha as in my other post where I posted my review for the movie. I felt that this was a step up from Iron Man 2 in which I have watched a couple of times to give a general opinion on at first did I think Iron Man 3 was better.

Iron Man 3 is better than 2 but like I also said it may not be as great nor as memorable as the first one. They all have their moments but I felt that Iron Man 2 had the worst villain and ending bad guy fight out of the lot (it was literally over in like a minute) I loved Guy Pearce as a whole its been a while to get a good movie out of him.

I also agree having Tony outside of the suit more gave him a lot of needed depth...you see that is a gamble but it pays off in my eyes but not say in the eyes of my other family members who preferred his cocky attitude. I liked that he didnt feel confident that he was the one the world could only count on...there are other superheroes and there are aliens etc and having this bring him to earth was brilliant.

I wont spoil anything in regards to the mandarian but I liked what they had done and I do respect everyone's opinions on how they ruined him in there eyes (I do see where you are coming from I just liked this new approach)

And lastly Robert Downy Jr is in talks for Avengers 2-4 from what I have read but not standalone Iron Man movies....yet and I mean if he doesnt they shouldn't make anymore because I feel he is the only guy for Iron Man (You can't pull the Don Cheadle or do a bond with this guy)

I'd have to say I really enjoyed this film. They did really well I blending old story characters with plot lines of more recent comics.
downy jr. was a lot of fun throughout the film. He just plays stark so well.
The after credits scene for this movie was definitely my favorite out of any marvel film.
