Japanese language

To Erythritol (I don't feel like quoting that whole thing lol):

Ehh?? The "te" form is the easiest one?? Well, for me the hardest part is remembering when to use it. Conjugating stuff into the "te" form is easy, but for some reason it doesn't come to me as easily as other conjugations...

And yeah the particles are kinda fun! I've never learned a language that had "topic particles" and "emphasis particles" etc so it's very interesting to learn!

You're in Tokyo right now? Whereabouts? I'm going to be studying in Japan in a couple years and I can't decide between Kyoto and Tokyo. If I go to Tokyo, I'd be in the Ikebukuro area.
Also, how long have you been studying Japanese? I'm only in my second semester at a university...

Te form never really gave me issues. I always have trouble with the short forms. I know when to use them...I just forget how to conjugate them. And I hate having to remember whether a verb is a u verb or a ru verb! That one gives me issues too. I've studied Japanese for three semesters in college.

Well, I'm going to Sophia University, which is located in Shinjuku. I don't live too near the campus, though. I live in Fuchu, which is about a 40 minute commute to campus via train. It's an adorable little town though. I love it. I think I've been to Ikebukuro...but I'm not quite sure because everything's been kind of a blur. To be quite honest, Tokyo is really overwhelming. But it's really a great place. Hrm, that's a hard decision between Tokyo or Kyoto. Personally, I'd go with Tokyo because it's a huge metropolis with lots to do! XD I totally plan on visiting Kyoto though. It looks gorgeous. Good luck though! Whatever city you end up in, I'm sure you'll love it! Japan is so crazy, but it's awesome.

Well I've been learning Japanese for 13 years (this year), ever since I was 5...
Its really fun, I love learning other languages, but I can't understand why people give up on it.
I mean, its not like there are that many difficult parts, the only one that has ever really given me trouble was Relative Clauses, they used to be a total bitch for me

I understand very basic Japanese and i can read it both Hiragana and Katakana still learning kanji, too many of them. To the people that can count to ten, sadly counting is done very diffently their is a diffrent way to say number based on what you are counting. such as small objects e.g.

1=ichi counting a small object hetotsu

really its just to upset people that are trying to learn

Hito-tsu
huta-tsu
mit-tsu
yot-tsu
itutu-tsu
mut-tsu
nana-tsu
yat-tsu
(forgot nine)
too

Yeah, counting can be really annoying sometimes. Some other counters are:
-mai : for counting flat objects
-hon/bon/pon : for counting cylindrical objects
-satsu : for counting volumes of things
-ban : indicating what number something is, like saying "Number one" ichi-ban.

Those are the only ones I know of so far, though I'm not sure how many there are...

Oh sweet god, I HATE the counters. I don't know why the hell they exist. Why can't you just count things simply?! Why must there be a special distinction for flat objects, long objects, cylindrical objects, etc. I can't remember them to save my damn life. It's pretty sad. XD

Kanji generally doesn't give me too much trouble. I can easily recognize some kanji (350 or so...?) but I generally can't write the more involved kanji. I remember how to write the ones that come up a lot (time, person, to buy, etc). I usually have more trouble with the longer grammar phrases, you know? Example: "~nakuchaikemasen" I can never remember those long phrases to tack on to the end of whatever verb form. I always completely forget them XD

kokonotsu is nine :)

Mod Edit: Please put more effort into your post, thank you.

The counters are the bane of my and my friend's existence right now.
We both got accepted into an early university study program for excellence in the Japanese Language (I felt good) but we have to do tests weekly, this month (they have monthly topics) is the counters...
Evil, evil things they are.

Sorry for bumping this thread but I just had to contribute. I love Japanese! Probably because it is my first language. I am also fluent in English and French though because my Mom is from France (i'm half japanese half African-French). I grew up in Japan all my life though so I speak English with somewhat of a strange accent. Anyway, Kanji is difficult even for Japanese people! I know about 2500 but I forget them everyday. I go to a university where most of my classes are in English (Sophia University) so its easy to forget a lot of kanji characters, etc. Anyway, everyone that is studying Japanese, ganbatte! nihongo wa muzukashikunai yo! mainichi tsukau toki, yasashiku narimasu. Thats my spiel. I hope you all can also come to Japan one day (if you have not been) and experience Japanese culture, food, our wacky TV shows, etc. Yoroshiku!

I'm learning Japanese but I kinda have a long way to go, I know numbers are:
1 - ichi
2 - ni
3 - san
4 - she
5 - go
6 - roku
7 - shichi
8 - hachi
9 - kyu
10 - jyu
And I know how combine like 14 is > jyu she or 21 is > ni jyu ichi, I also know that floors end with "kai" and number one is "I" except number three which ends with "gai"
1st floor - I kai
2nd floor - ni kai
3rd floor - san gai
4th floor - she kai
Well I have a long way to go T_T

Thats ok though! As long as you want to learn Japanese you will learn it. Good luck with your studies and PM me if you need help. I still find English very difficult at times, LOL. Especially when I have to write paper.
