today i watched the movie for a small part in Japanese, just to compare it to the english version and i came to the conclusion it SUCKS no seriously, some of the voices were pretty... well cissy like...
but that's my opinion, the lines just weren't enjoyable to listen to, and the voices just didn't fit in with the characters, perhaps because they look western(the characters)? that's what i think, so what do you prefer, Japanese or English?
or something else perhaps?

I prefered to listin to it in Japanese because I watched in Japanese first so i got very used to it, then when i watched it in English it seemed wierd to me the first time but after i got used to it. I still prefere the Japanese speaking but i watch the English one so i don't have to read the subtitles.

I prefer Japanese one as well. I just hate some of the voices in english on it. especially Kadaj and Cid. They were just annoying.

I myself would LOVE to leaern the Japanese language! Oh man, to be able to speak it would be freak'n awesome.

However...I chose English because it's more convenient fo me when watching the movie. I'm not a fan of subtitles in movies because I like to focus my attention on what the action is all about, instead of taking my eyes off of that by reading words at the bottom. That's why I picked English.

I prefer to watch it in Japanese because I'm so used to it. No, I am not Japanese. :) I'm just so used to watching animes in Japanese and so that's why the language suited me more for FFAC. I thought that the voices were well-matched, actually. Besides, Japanese is such a beautiful language, IMO. I know a few words and phrases, but I'll definitely work more on that. ;)

Depends on the voices. There are some that I just prefer to listen to in Japanese. Those being Cid, Aeris, Yuffie, Cait Sith, and Vincent.

I really couldn't stand Cid, Cait Sith, and Vincent's english VA's. Yuffie's was alright. Aeris's sounded to sugary.

Cloud, Tifa, Rufus, and Sephiroth had great english VA's and Barret's english voice was actually better than the original VA. Red XIII didn't talk enough so I couldn't compare his.

I watched it in English the first time through but japanese every since. It's the best language in the world and i'd like to learn it too.

In my personal opinion, often times, the English voiceovers are worse. You see, the Japanese have a different culture. In their country, voice actors are held in far higher regard than those in America. Here, where they're pretty much inconsequential and unknown, over there, the actors/ actresses have hordes of fans, products, articles and even their own face time. As such, the quality of their work is much greater than that of American actors. The effort they put in alone is much greater that of their American counterparts. There's a whole other variety of factors which contribute to the Japanese superiority over American voice acting, which we will eventually undoubtedly come to discuss in this thread.

For now, that's my two cents.

I prefer it spoken in Japanese also. Thought the only time I listen to it in English is if I'm like doing homework or cleaning and I have it on for just background noise, because I don't really watch it, I just listen.

i actually thought Aeris/th sounded better in english, well in the way i picture her, as a sweet innocent girl, the japanese version is well... i dunno, not like that, i could be wrong, but the movement she makes and all does show she's sweet and all...

Heh, I thought Tifa's voice acting could've been done better. Rachel Leigh Cook's voice is ok, but I don't think it really suited Tifa's. Now, the one in Japanese was good, IMO. I thought it suited her very well.

With Aeris...erm, I don't remember the voice acting in Japanese. I'll have to watch it again. But the one in English was okay. I could hear the sweetness and innocence in her voice, yeah, but for some reason I was expecting something better as well. I don't know what exactly. I suppose I wanted her voice to be perfect and angelic.

Cloud's voice was perfect, both in English and Japanese. ^_^ So were the other characters, especially Kadaj and his gang.

Aeris English VA totally ruined Kadaj's dying scene. I hated it. Sephiroth also sounded a lot more menacing in Japanese, as did Loz and Yazoo, who didn't sound like complete idiots in English. Japanese FTW.

Sephiroth was decent in japanese but awesome in angelish, the english voice seems much more fitting to a major villain, as for Loz and Yazoo, their japanese voices are something i can't even talk about, it was plain crap, Yazoo sounded like a bad Loz clone, and Loz sounded even more like a complete and utter retard, in english Yazoo received a voice exactly for his characterics, same for Loz...
pretty much my opinion on their voices

Cloud's japanese voice made me think about some fat japanese dude, which ruined it... but it was fitting for him once i could think away that image of the fat jap dude

I prefer English. For one, I hate subtitles and another I can actually understand what they're saying. Each voice actor's voice was fine to me.

I couldn't stand watching this movie in English. Every time I've sat down to watch it, I tried it in English first, then would get really frustrated at it, and eventually put it back in Japanese w. subtitles. Also, the English translation in the dub tends to be kinda goofy at times.

I preferred it in Japanese...quite obvious, but the English had some humoruous moments, like Denzel cursing. I had to laugh when he did that.

Nonetheless, Japanese is better with the voice-overs than the English version.

I prefer it in english. I tried watching it in japanese once but the subtitles kept distracting me from the action so halfway through i switched back to english
