Jrock Introduction

right off the top the first song, you can tell the music was recorded first and he later went in and did the vocals. and who ever put it together, put the vocals too far out form the music. one of the guitar players is rocking a 7 string guitar.. those things are very sweet and am i counting right? 3 guitar players? these guys are great musicians. guitar work is sick.

yeah they do the 3 guitarists thing well. Not everyone can. Only one other band I have heard has done so well and that was Gackt's band when he first started. Ok, so since the last few bands were kinda dark and metal like, time to switch gears. Alot of people probably know this one or at least who he is.

T.M. Revolution

http://www.jame-world.com/us/artists-biography-160-t-m-revolution.html

So, TM Revolution (or Takanori Nishikawa) mainly does Techno/Trance/Electronic music. Sometimes a little rock thrown in. But he doesnt write the music for this project and sometimes doesnt do the lyrics either, even though it's his solo career. But it's always been that way for it. He teamed up with a producer and they were a team from the beginning. He does have an amazing voice though. Now Im not a HUGE fan of TM Revolution. I like some of his stuff, but I more like the band he is in compared to his solo work. But none the less, before I showcase that group, it's good to see where he started and is most known for. He still does his solo stuff and rotates activity between it and his band. But Im gonna put a few of the songs I like up and then if you guys like them, definitely try some more out.

Invoke

Web of Night - English version

Zips - Live version, couldnt find the PV on Youtube. Still good though since he can sing very well live

Vestige - same thing here too, PV not on youtube

Love Saver

So there you go. I would put a few more on, but alot of his videos arent on Youtube anymore for some reason. But, if you like this kinda stuff Id say give him a try. Its upbeat electronic/techno. Good techno/trance at that

its not bad, but i think its a little to techno for my taste. i can hear the rock elements he has in his music. i'd prolly put in the category of a pop artist. being as he doesn't write hie own lyrics.. that kinda puts him down a few notches on my ladder. if you are a solo artist, at least write you own stuff..lol

Hmm actually Im mistaken. For TM Revolution, he didnt write his stuff at first but for his last 2 albums or so, he has been.

Next band is up

MUCC
1988-a.jpg

So Mucc started out as more of a metal band. I actually didnt care for them too much then. They were alright, but nothing special in my opinion anyways. Then they started experimenting more. They did a good bit of music such as rock, some rapping vocals (or spoken singing, kinda hard to explain, but will be shown), punk, some jazzy influences, and some styles of music Im not really sure how to describe. Recently though they messed with more electronic music, and while their music now is still decent, they almost have done club music at times, which Im really not into.

As musicians though, I think their bassist is very great, and their vocalist is amazing. He has a really unique voice that portrays a ton of emotion. They have a dark look alot of the time. Well, mainly the singer, he seriously makes the band highly unique.

Kugatsu Mikka No Kokuin

Zetsubou - never really cared for this one

Wate arubeki basho - not one of my favorites either. It's an interesting song though

Roji Ura Boku To Kimi E -Kinda reminds me of Korn a little bit at times. Also kinda reminds me of some type of Egyptian feel to it in the chorus. Bass work is pretty good.

Monocro No Keshiki

Kokoro no Nai Machi - More of a punkish song. I like this one a good bit - has some blues-ish type influences too.

-------------------------------------------------- This line is where I felt they started to get really really good

Ame no Orchestra - good song

Saishuu Ressha - really like this song

Gerbera - really interesting song. I love it as well.

Ryuusei - The song that made me really start listening to them. One of the first I heard from them. Completely adore this song.

Utagoe - upbeat punkish

Horizont - has sort of a japanese folkish sound at times

Libra - pretty awesome song too. I love the feel of the song and the way the vocals are sung

Fuzz - kinda 80's ish

Ageha - rocking song

---------------------------------- started to get more electronic from here

Sora to Ito - another rocking song. Has some electronic elements starting to be thrown in. I really liked the entire cd this song came from.

Freesia - Awesome song too. Love it

Yakasoku

Falling Down - didnt care for this one

Nirvana - no pv for it though it's their newest single. So went with a live performance, better than falling down IMO

So they started out metal/punk on their albums, then towards the middle they tried a bunch of awesome styles, then they toured the US and got back into more melodic metal, and the last 2 albums have been more dance/rock/electronic music. I think they are a great band who definitely experiments, I just havent been feeling their stuff since after Freesia as much. But,what do you think?

first song i wasn't too big on.. and the singer i think.. was rocking a mullet in it as well. but for a 4 piece they do have a nice full sound. i always like looking at the live videos, you can learn a lot form a band by their live performances. these guys if they ever came to the states and swung through pittsburgh, i'd check them out

They actually did go through the US with the Taste of Chaos tour a few years back. I wish I could have seen them, especially since it was them and Girugamesh both on tour

as far as japenese bands go, the only ones i seen live. were back in 2003 i saw balzac when they were on tour with the misfits, agnostic front, D.I., the dickies, and the damned. here is some balzac

i have also seen soundwitch live as well. but that was at the anime convention.

Hmm, they sound kinda punkish, Id have to listen to more of their stuff to get a good idea.

Next up

Abingdon Boys School
1521-a.jpg

So, since TM Revolution has already been shown, here is the band he is in. They have more of a rock edge with some electronic influence (DJ) and alot of the songs are actually sung in english, or have english in them. I was definitely impressed with them when I first heard them, they definitely have their music down pat and they are all pretty good musicians.

One thing I thought was interesting that the DJ is actually their producer, but plays in the band with them. I thought that was pretty cool. And the members have all known each other for a good while so they have good chemistry.

Innocent Sorrow

Howling - Great song

Nephilim

Jap

Strength

Blade Chord

From Dusk til Dawn -PV is from when they were in Europe

And a guitar solo from them live for fun

Pretty good stuff. Their first cd was better than their second IMO mainly because I heard most of the songs as singles before the second album came out so there wasnt much new. But they also do collaborations. The song on their first album Dress is a remake of a Buck Tick song, they also had a song called Lost Reason on their album that features Micro, and on their second album they did a song with the vocalist of the band UVERworld

i kinda like this project better. name is kinda deceiving in their sound. boys school.. shoulda dropped that end..lol but yeah.. guitar work is great. his vocals are decent and go with the music well.

about balzac, yeah they are punk. they are like the japanese version of the misfits. there is actually a local connection to that band. their producer is a guy named cherry, who lived here in pittsburgh in the 1980's before going back to japan. i found all this out when i saw them and got to hang with them in 2003. people i was with used to play in the punk band half life and knew cherry, so i got to hear stories of cherry living here and japan that whole night.

Just gonna post this for the moment. Im in the process of graduating, trying to find a job, and studying to take licensing exams so I wont be posting as many new things for a little while. Im still going to just not as frequent. Once things calm down Ill try to do so every day again.

dude take your time.. if you would like i could post some stuff as i know of a few j-rock bands.

i dig how things go at the end of year for graduation. its hustle get this and get that done.. and do it all in less time. for me.. i went to a community college and an art academy.. and i did not show up to either graduation... don't do that..lol

I have some time so I decided to post a new band =o

Lin - End of Corruption World
26919-lin-u2y7.jpg

Guitar: MIZUKI (ex. 劇場型宮廷楽団 La neige → ミサルカ)

Guitar: KANATA (ex. Mëbíus → ルフィー嬋命~RUEPHY ALIVE~ → Pashya → chariots)

Drums: REIYA (ex. イナズマ → ルフィー嬋命~RUEPHY ALIVE~ → Pashya → chariots)
Essentially Lin is a band formed by a pretty prominent bassist in the indies scene known as Kisaki. Actually before a "fight" and some other personal things, he used to be in the same band as all of the members of Dir en Grey (which will be featured later) but was kicked out/left and replaced by Toshiya.

But this is mainly the band of two main people Riku and Kisaki who were in the bands Phantasmagoria and alot of members from the band Chariots. The best way for me to describe them would be metal, more old school-ish, but mixed with newer age music such as electronic effects and such. I love the vocals of the band and the feelings of alot of the songs. Pretty good stuff.

Metamorphose -I really like the chorus to this song

As if Forever Exists - I love the lyrics and the imagery of this song. Very beautiful

Silent to my Pain - This song just rocks in general

Flowers Bloom - pretty much more of a fun take on a metal song

They went on a hiatus for a little while and almost disbanded but have decided to keep playing together. Supposedly a new album and single came out in March that I didnt know of. But they rock pretty good

i know phantsmagoria well. very good vocalist. these guys are pretty good. riku i feel can do just about any style of music and still make it sound good. i will admit though. i was not a fan of chariots. in all honesty.. this band i dunno why but they kinda remind me of like version of the cure.. a little more upbeat. in the lyrics in english translation.. i could see elements of the cure. kisaki's bass playing has always frustrated me. as his style, he swings his hand on the fret board. i am a bass player and that style is just odd to me..lol. silent to my pain is a decent song. def. my fave of the the ones you posted. the video is a tad cheesy but song makes up for it.

I agree with the Chariots comment. I only heard a few songs from them, but I really didnt care for them either. I have only heard some Phantasmagoria but liked what I heard. Kisaki is weird IMO as well. He has this big following in the scene, yet while I think he is a decent bassist, I dont think he is amazing. But Riku is a great vocalist.

I think all of the video's are cheesy lol. But thats what happens when you dont have a ton of money, (though As if Forever Exists is a great video). Sadly, the english lyrics are poorly translated in the songs, but give an idea what they are about.

well i think no matter what language you translate to english, a lot will get lost in the translation. i pretty much don't pay attention to the translations. i feel if they wanted it in english, they would have written it in english :)

Great topic.
I'm a big fan of J-Music since 2004. Can I post some J-Rock bands too or only you, Nocturne?

P.S. At MUCC, you forgot one of their best songs in my opinion. :)

Well at first, I kind of want to be the one posting the music. Once I run out of bands, then I was going to open it up and start having people post their specific songs they are listening too (or make a whole new thread for it afterwards). This is more to find out about some new bands and such. And =P yeah it's a good MUCC song, but Im kinda trying to keep it just to music videos so people can get a feel for the band and the way they look along with their music.

So some developments. I finally graduated and have gotten a job, moved into a new place and settled in, so Im going to start this thread back up. It may not be every day like I was doing, but then again, it may be multiples a day. It all depends on how busy I am with work and such. But Im excited to get back into this.

So after a long absence, it's time to start it back up. I've been trying to find new bands and am currently exploring some of them. Alot of the artists I literally grew up listening to have either stopped doing newer stuff or have become very stale (though there are exceptions). Im going to start posting some newer bands I found that I at least like or sound promising and mixed with some of the classics.

First one up is new and old: Damijaw. He used to be in the band Janne Da Arc as the bassist. I just heard about him as his second solo album has come out. I have to say I really like it took. More of a rock band but there are Jazz and Funk influences as well as some Punk influences as well. The ballads on the album are great as well, especially last song on the album. I have to give him some mad props.

- I like this one alot. I think this stuff is from his first album which I havent heard yet though. He has a music video coming out for a song on the second album, but it isnt out yet.

Sadly those are his only two music videos besides the new one coming out. The album is really good though

Next band up is another really good technical band. I think they were best before their new vocalist, but they are still pretty damn good.

Galneryus
fe59645401a84287434c2fd77484e1e2.jpg

More info about the band here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galneryus

So best way to describe them is power/speed metal. More power metal since they focus on melody greatly and not just playing as fast as possible. This is actually the band the guitarist of Deluhi (earlier in the thread) was in before hand under the name Yu-to (Leda in Deluhi and currently). But usually the drawing attraction for those who liek Galneryus is Syu the main guitarist and leader of the band. They have some pretty awesome songs I must say. They've had a good bit of member changes including their vocalist recently. Their new vocalist is good, but he sounds more like the average metal singer IMO whereas the first singer had a deeper voice yet could go high as well which gave the songs a more operatic feeling at times.

So onto the music =D (starting from earlier to most recent)

Struggle For The Freedom Flag

Silent Revelation - Love the guitar parts in this

My Last Farewell

Everlasting - I love this song

New Legend - Probably my personal favorite of theirs. BASS SOLO =D. Awesome awesome song. Love the vocals a ton as well.

Alsatia - Probably my least favorite one

Shining Moments - Like this one alot too. Last one with their first singer Yama-b

You're the Only 2010 - actually a cover of one of the new vocalists solo songs

Destiny

Future Never Dies - Pretty decent

Hunting for your Dream

Kizuna - meh, didnt really care for this one all that much either. Not bad but nothing great IMO

So what do you think? Im thinking Seddy will like this one
