Kingdom Hearts VS Kingdom Hearts II

I, because it was all skill and no easy button. (Easy button being triangle, how many times do you press that throughout the game?)

Also because it wasnt based off the retarded KHCOM, which was a pointless game. Lets take away your memories, give you false ones, and then make another game just to give you your old ones back->KHII. pointless.

I personally prefer Kingdom Hearts I. I dunno why, but the second one just had a different feel to it. Don't get me wrong, I think they are both great games, but I just preferred the first one more.

Well… I’m almost finished with the second one and I have to say that… neither are excellent games, in my opinion, but still very enjoyable… Of the two, I’d probably have to go with the first one. *shrugs* I actually liked the worlds of KH1 better than 2, everything else didn’t really matter.

You're right, they aren't that excellent. As a matter of fact, they're overrated, they're fun as hell to play but beyond that...meh.

I liked KH1 better. Reasons why:

1. The experience was new and the atmosphere of the game seemed darker and more explorative.

2. KH2 starts off so frigging slow...as in the first four hours are Twilight Town and that stupid minigame with Nerf bats.

3. All the nice additions to KH2 just felt superfluous and I had a constant sense of "been here, done that."

4. The story was confusing without the Ansem reports. In an action game, I don't like to have to read random crap I pick up to understand the story. Leave that to real RPGs, KH is an action game and Nomura isn't fooling anyone with "leveling up."

5. KH1 had some badass heartless later in the game, like the Wyvern, Behemoth, Invisible, Angel Star and Defender. KH2 is completely lacking in badass heartless

6. KH1 has alot of awesome optional bosses. It had Sephiroth, Ice Titan, Clocktower Phantom and Kurt Zisa. KH2 has...Sephi...

7. KH2 introduces Sora's fancy new fusions, but there is no incentive to use them, you can easily pummel your way through everything without transforming once.

8. Magic was less useful in KH2 game, the only spell I used was the Cure set. In KH1 I relied alot more on magic and the Fire spell wasn't utter crap.

9. KH1 didn't ruin FF characters. KH2 turned Setzer into a crap cameo character who was champ of "beat the balls out of your enemy with a Nerf bat." Nomura also gave Vivi that creepy hat with a mouth, which just looked like something ripped off Tim Burton.

10. No flying unless you were in Sora's uber form. Seems like I'm one of the few who actually enjoyed the flying bits in KH1.

11. KH2 had the WORST reunion of friends ever (Sora is totally gay for Riku)...god that scene made me want to bitch-slap Sora.

So yeah, that's what I can think of currently as to why I like KH1 better. But KH2 does have a few exceptional things going for it:

1. The Organization was awesome (even though they're generic anime crap, they're the best part of the game).

2. The Gummi Ship thing was actually fun this time around.

3. There was none of that HORRID swimming in Atlantis and you could just mute the bad songs.

4. No stupid Tarzan and Alice In Wonderland levels.

5. The Nightmare Before Christmas world had great bosses, much better than giant castle Oogie.

6. The 1000 Heartless battle, that was just plain cool (it should have been more challenging though).

7. Roxas. Playing him for a while meant you didn't have to play as faggy Sora.

8. There was a ton of fighting, it was all fast-paced, had alot of aerial combat, plus it had that awesome finishing move Explosion.

Easily kh2...it was a bit easier but it made up for it with story and length.

I prefer Kingdom Hearts 1.

Kingdom Hearts II suffered from poor world design, and an overabundance of cut scenes. I was watching video sequences more than I was playing the game.

The combat is well-done, but Sora is simply too powerful. I never felt challenged...even on Proud Mode. Kingdom Hearts I was by no means a difficult game, but Kingdom Hearts II is even easier. A 3 year old who substitutes both his thumbs for a mental illness could make it through this game.

Small complaints, really. Overall, Kingdom Hearts II is a fine game--just not as good as I was anticipating. After all, Kingdom Hearts I didn't have to live up to any of my expectations. Kingdom Hearts II, on the other hand, did.

I liked 1 better.
-Magic actually was effective
-MP worked better for me
-No forms to plow through game with (Valor + 2 Hi potions = boss dead on normal)
-Sephiroth fight OWNS YOU in this version
-Better skills
-No retarded triangle button abuse
-No gay hour long Roxas story
-Not overly confusing
-had set goals
-Ansem was fucking AWESOME to fight first time through. I was so into that fight... Then again, I was horribly underleveled.

KHII is better the forms crap was awesome and the gummi ship were awesome and the control system in KH2 is way better that KHI.

Kingdom Hearts I by quite a long way, the overall story was better, it didn't have the button mashing that was in II and mainly the forms, I for one hated the forms especially considering you could beat 'strong' opponents within a matter of seconds...which leads on to that the difficulty in KHII was stupidly easy, my 7yr old brother beat it on proud mode which shows how easy it was.

...and don't get me started on the slowest beginning to a game...ever!!!

I feel like bitching about Kingdom Hearts II all of a sudden.

I disliked the drive forms as well. I find it funny how everyone who prefers Kingdom Hearts II seems to base their opinion almost solely around the drive forms. Sure, they were pretty cool, but they made an already easy game even easier.

Magic and summoning was crap on Kingdom Hearts II. Why would you waste your MP on anything other than cure? You probably wouldn't. Why would you sacrifice your drive meter to summon in lieu of using a form? You probably wouldn't.

The world design is crap as well. On Kingdom Hearts I, the worlds were fun to explore. On Kingdom Hearts II, they're pretty much a series of empty, boring rooms. And what the HELL is the deal with Atlantica? That world is simply inexcusable. The developers should be ashamed for giving us that half-assed world (I use "world" loosely when describing Atlantica).

What happened to the platforming elements from Kingdom Hearts I? I enjoyed exploring worlds for the dalmations and trinity marks. There's nothing of the sort to encourage exploration in Kingdom Hearts II. You walk straight through a world, and you're done.

The story on Kingdom Hearts II is downright ridiculous. Try explaining the plot to another person who isn't familiar with Kingdom Hearts. Regardless of whether or not you can do it accurately, you'll sound completely out there. So-and so's shell is wandering around while his nobody is eating popsicles in a fake, digitally created world as his heartless is busy terrorizing the universe. The story on Kingdom Hearts I was absorbing, yet easy to follow.

The beginning of Kingdom Hearts II is poorly done. I don't care about Roxas, and I don't want to play as him...especially if I have to wander around the shithole that is Twilight Town for 5 stinkin' hours. Once again, the story proves to be downright bad. I...I can't say the word, "photo," because the nobodies took our photos! I don't replay Kingdom Hearts II because of the time you spend as Roxas in the beginning.

Too many cut-scenes. Why are there so many of 'em? I can appreciate it if you want to focus more on the story, Square Enix, but some of us would like to actually play the game. I'm tired of watching a 15 minute cut-scene just to get to control Sora from point A to point B for 15 seconds. What follows? Another cut-scene! YAY! I'd say you spend a good 60% of the time watching the game rather than playing it.

The reaction commands are a downer. Kingdom Hearts II is easy to begin with, right? Okay, now add drive forms to the mix! Even easier? Yes, it is. What else can we do to make sure you have no chance at losing a fight? Why, we'll add reaction commands to the fight! Simply press the triangle button, and watch the game inflict damage on the enemy for you! What's even better? Your enemies (bosses, too) will constantly repeat the same action that triggers these powerful reaction commands. Instead of coming up with a decent stratedgy, you can go in with this mindset: "Okay, just run around until I see an option to press the triangle button. Repeat that same action until the enemy is finished." Kingdom Hearts I was a button-masher, but Kingdom Hearts II is even worse.

Kingdom Hearts is FAR better.

I enjoyed Kingdom hearts 1 rather then KH2.
Mostly becasue the story in 1 was really moving and i was amazed once i beat it, but once i beat KH2 i wasent as thrilled..
but i like both of the games

I loved KHII more than I did KHI, but it's hard to play the second game without playing the first.

However, I can freely admit that KHI was harder to play than KHII.

I had school, and other stuff to do, but on my first play through it took me about 2 weeks to beat KHI.

On my first play through of KHII, it took me just over 3 days to beat it during a long weekend.

While I love both games, the first is the better of the two. One thing I didn't like so much was that KHII was pretty "flat" as far as the topography of the game, as in there wasn't much in the way of vertical platforming. KHI had a ton of that, and apart from a problematic camera sometimes, it added that extra dynamic to the gameplay. The story for KHI far better utilized the Disney characters, themes, and worlds--it was very Disney-centric, and it worked surprisingly well. KHII, not so much. It was a lot darker thematically, focused a lot on Organization XIII, and the Disney element was largely lost in the background. Even the Heartless plot with Maleficent and Pete at its most focused was overshadowed by every other plot thread in the game.

Even with all that, KHII is still a great game with a ton of positives, but just not as successful from top to bottom as KHI.

I think I'd rate the two about even. Kingdom Hearts I was dynamic in the point that its storyline and flow hadn't been done before. The worlds were amazing, the characters were gripping, and the suspense at part was almost brutal. Especially in the beginning, Sora's breaking away from Destiny Island was kind of symbolic, 'cause he was actually realizing his destiny. Descending into the darkness and fighting the shadows for the first time was amazing.

Similarly, Kingdom Hearts II's beginning was very well done. I think it was more awesome if you hadn't played Chain of Memories before starting it up, because everything is muddled and confusing until the very last second. It's as if you had the pieces of the puzzle, but you couldn't put them together with the tidbits of information that you were missing. Easily the best introduction to a video game I've seen, only because of the twists thrown in.

That being said, I was underwhelmed by the worlds in KH2. Every world seemed too short and too easy, and you didn't feel a real connection with the characters like you did in KH1. The magic was a bit more pointless, the forms could have been more intriguing, and the developers should've dwelled on more dramatic scenes like the war at Hollow Bastion.

However, the sheer mystery behind Organization XIII and Roxas and Riku really struck a chord in me. As far as the overall storyline goes, KH2 was very well done, but I just think the individual worlds and battling system could have been more developed. The introduction of Tifa and other characters was well done, too.

So there's pro's and con's to both, and I think they're almost equals, as they should be. I think KH1 was just more prepared for.
