Last game you finished?

I finished and platted inFamous 2 yesterday.

Been meaning to play it for a long time before that, but I never bothered.
 
Persona 4 Golden

Finally finished it after the 50+ quid i payed to import it last November. Compared to P3P i'll say it on par with it, what lacked compared to it in the story department it gained in gameplay. P4 is much longer, with a extra 23 hours clocked compared to p3, the bosses were much tougher, which was very nice, and it was one of them games that I was rather proud to say that I finished. Even got the true ending on my first run, which was awesome, missed out on max stats comaped to p3 and only had like 5-7 maxed social links. i'll give it a 9/10
 
Saints Row 2

I've a patchy relationship with open world games. I've never been that much of a fan of the Grand Theft Auto games, despite how loudly lauded they have been. I just couldn't enjoy San Andreas, and I was left wondering whether the open world genre(?) was even suited to my tastes. Then all of a sudden, I played Just Cause 2, followed by Sleeping Dogs, and just a fortnight ago, I decided to borrow a copy of Saints Row 2 because that series has a reputation for being wacky and over-the-top.

For some reason, the copy of the game I've played has a patch that equips ENEMY attack choppers with rockets that make a few missions far more frustrating - and on one occasion, nigh impossible - to complete despite all other signs and objective markers telling you to e.g. get on a damn civilian helicopter with no weapons or real protection, and fly back to the safe crib when an enemy chopper with lock-on missiles pursues you. That happened again in the final mission as I tried to blow up the four power generators around the Ultor building, as awful in-game weather meant I could barely see where any of my targets were before rockets brought me down. I had to input ONE cheat code to beat the game. What was the cheat code for? Infinite health, or ammo? No. I put in a cheat code to change the weather from stormy to sunny. That was it.

Otherwise, great game. It amiably mixes the serious with the outright juvenile. The story does bear its surprisingly serious moments, though elevated with some OTTP scenarios that elicited some good laughs out of me at the right time, so it came out more competently written that what I was expecting. I suppose after the army of super-serious games from TLOU to games that were TRYING to be serious (FFXIII-2), something like Saints Row 2 with plenty of juvenile moments was a welcome change of pace. No, really. I enjoyed the side missions with a French mime artist ordering you to spray err, shit(?) everywhere while driving a septic tank. Add to that, my protagonist is basically an overweight, pink Mohawk-haired, black, transsexual, nappy-wearing, bathrobe-donning black guy with a Cockney accent.

Final Fantasy XIII-2

Is this a better game than FFXIII? Well, yes, and no.

The problem with FFXIII-2 is that it is unabashedly a B-tier game, but one that utterly lacks its own identity. It's a chimeric culmination of the developers frantically trying to tick off a laundry list of to-do items, while utterly failing to understand how some of these features should be inserted into the game. Don't give me dialogue "options" when there is no bloody point in having them, when the developers don't understand what it is about dialogue options that players of Mass Effect (a game they seemed to aspire to be so much for some reason, look at the N7 armour DLC!) like about. You have some cases where there is only ONE right option, and when some lines are trying to be funny, they succeed only in making Serah look and sound like a moronic child.

The story is dog's bollocks - and not even in a good way. Apparently, paradoxes in Square-Enix land can mean and do virtually anything, from causing entire zones to start collapsing into some black hole void, to infecting computer systems like some amateur virus. They're less of an actual "paradox" and more of a vague, supernatural plot device that is arbitrarily there because this whole plot relies on a stupid arbitrary plot device to even function at all - if so it ever functions! Noel and Serah are largely inoffensive as characters. Caius is nothing groundbreaking as a villain, but he is only badass because he was written to be so broken that he could not ever lose. Lightning is not even a character in this game, despite the marketing. She just delivers monotone monologues that I couldn't help but not care about. Yeul is technically not a character either, because she's supposed to be a bunch of different people, reincarnated over and over again, but somehow all of them resemble clones of each other.

FFXIII-2 has reminded me of all those things I didn't like about the FFXIII battle system. There is no reason why I can't determine the positions of my party members and where they stand. An enemy casts an area effect spell or ability. In a sensible situation, I ought to be able to allow maybe my Serah to move out of the way, and allow someone else to serve as the tank. But no! The game just has the party members stupidly walk around the field, and often next to each other, without my ability to dictate where they should go, so an area effect spell pummels everyone. It gets annoying when I have party members with low health and minor status effects that hardly matter, but a monster Medic continues to think that casting Esuna is a higher priority than a good Curaga. Add to the obscenely stupid Crystarium and skill tree builds in this game and I even thought to myself: even FFXIII did it better than this!

Oh yes, and different time periods/eras means reusing the same locations three or four times, with different colours and weathers. Mhm.

So in short, FFXIII was rubbish. FFXIII-2 just as rubbish. It has good points, which I could list now, but I'm in a rush, but it does so many bad things as well - things that even FFXIII did better at - that the good is negated. I don't think LR: FFXIII will be any better. But I hope it has Mog. Mog <3
 
After getting my arse kicked by the final boss after what seems like half a day- 2 days, I finally finished Jude's story. Therefore, I finally finished my first playthrough of Tales of Xillia. I actually really loved the game quite a bit. It has some characters that are likeable. Even though I picked Jude's story for my first run, it did not stop me from playing as Milla.

I think Milla was a great character. She always seems strong throughout the whole game. I think the battle system was fun! I really enjoyed the new linking mechanics a lot. My only gripe with the linking is that it makes battles so much easier. Meh, Tales of Xillia was easy in general...
I think I had the most trouble with the final boss out of everything! I expected the game to be a challenge and I have to admit that it becomes one at the very end. I am so ready to start Milla's story pretty soon. I think I will not finish it for a long time though as I have University starting on the 3rd of September.

What can I say? It was a brilliant game. The game is shorter than most tales games, and is probably the shortest one in the whole series, and that is of course, if you do not count the two character stories put together. I finished at about 43 hours (I used the last bit to do sub events and some minimal grinding)

It had a very good story, easy battles, likeable characters (MINUS TEEPO) and some decent character interaction/skits.


Access to the crystarium like liliium orb system grants easy power leveling, etc. I guess that is why most people feel like the game is easy when compared to most tales games. I have had probably less than 15 game overs in this game. That is an all-time low for a tales game.

I also never really had to tell any of my characters to use an arte. I just really let them do whatever they pleased (that is how easy it felt)

I beat all 6 devil beasts and vanquished Golden Mage Knight around level 69-70. Rowen fireball spam is pretty overpowered xD

I liked Jude! He was actually not as bad as a certain someone made him out to be. He actually is one of the first main tales characters that I like. He seems perfectly ok without too much of a love interest hehe.

The game certainly has flaws as well. I feel that some characters(mostly the villains) were quite underwhelming. Hell, I don't even think I can call them good characters.

I don't want to say too much about the game, so I think I will leave it at that.

Last thing: I didn't like how each chapter got progressively shorter. I cannot wait till Tales of Xillia 2!

I know sandbox games arent for everyone and im not a huge fan myself either but Saints row has the right kinda humour. Its extremely witty and clever and theres a tonne of Game and movie referances. For example theres a metal gear solid mission, a streets of rage mission dubbed 'saints of rage' you play a game just like streets of rage. 16 bit graphical glory and the lovely audio that comes with it. The game itself seems like a big tribute to the matrix as the story is similar(ish) Alot of referances to mass effect and mortal kombat too. Theres even some classic atari games and a story based mission similar to kings quest in it. Which i think is genius.
Story wise its one of the weaker Saints row games. I think SR2 in particular is the best of the series but what made this game so much fun was the fact that you got super powers. You could run faster than any car or vehicle in the game and could leap over skyscrapers, glide etc. It made exploring the city enjoyable whereas for me in most sandbox games it feels like a chore. Had they just focused on really making the story exciting i would say this would be one of the best games this gen. Thats saying alot too. My issue is that the main quest was quite short for a saints row game and the side quests are all pretty much the same. Theyre fun the first 2 or 3 times but after thats its all a bit repetative and boring.

Overall though it was really fun. One of the most fun games, if not the most fun game ive ever played. Adding super powers really was a genius idea.
Also i thought the option to have Nolan North as the voice actor (drake from uncharted) was pretty cool :lew: Though i play as the Ray winston and Jason strathan sounding geezer innit?

Previous to that i beat the Last of Us

Honestly the first few hours playing this game i was really disappointed. I didnt particularly enjoy the stealth combat because as soon as i got spotted by runners and clickers i was dead. I started off on hard mode but once i lowered the difficulty i started having a lot more fun. THEN you get the shotgun and the game totally changes imo. Once you have the shotgun you can actually choose whether or not you wanna go in like John Rambo on coke or get your solid snake on. I liked to mix it up with the bow and arrow then go in guns blazing.
I loved the characters. Not much to say other than i thought they were brilliant. Ellie was by far my favourite. That little girl has a nasty mouth on her and for a 14 year old girl she kicks some serious fucking arse. Take that Ashley from resident evil 4 you useless cow. Ellie knows how to get the job done. The development in relationship between Joel and Ellie was obvious. You knew it was gunna happen, afterall they show you what happened to his daughter 20 years prior at the start of the game.
Graphically it looks absolutely brilliant but i wouldnt expect any less from naughty dog visually. They always hit the mark. One thing i wasnt keen on was the whole getting about the city etc. Having to get a ladder or plank of wood then slowly move it into position does nothing but add on time to the game. The same goes for getting palettes to ferry Ellie over the water. It was quite boring and messed with the pace of the game.
After 4 hours or so i was really into the game. It went from being pretty uninteresting to me playing later than i should. Its not a long game and usually things like that can be quite sad, especially when your really enjoying something but for me it seemed the perfect length. The ending was good though the very last..scene / conversation ended a bit abrubtly but thats no big deal.
Theres a lot of talk about it being possibly the best game this generation. While i think it was excellent i dont agree with that at all. Quite honestly i preferred all of the uncharted games but its a great effort from naughty dog.
 
Assassin's Creed 3

Somewhere in the SB, probably covered in dust by now, is one of my shouts saying I got rid of the game because I was that disgusted with it. Well, I kind of lied. I just put it at the back of my shelf and realised that a certain glitch I was complaining about in Sequence 7 - which involved a stupid chase sequence where I was stuck in combat mode and locked-on to a redcoat instead of actually chasing the guy - wasn't actually a game-breaking glitch. It was just a tremendously annoying glitch. It's the sort of thing that drains your soul as you ask yourself whether Ubisoft's programmers were actively seeking to punish and psychologically torture whatever fool decided to spend money on it.

To begin with, I must thank Assassin's Creed 3 for something. A lot of its flaws are, at their very core, inherent in every Assassin's Creed game anyway. Whether it's the arbitrarily bogus and stupid "stealth" sections that fail that are mired by inconsistent AI behaviour and general clunkiness in the controls and in your character's behaviour on the screen; or the sub-par combat systems that anyone can exploit by merely countering enemies one-by-one, they're in every game. They're all flaws and poor game design choices present in every game, yet when AC2 and Brotherhood were the latest entries, most players seemed willing to put aside their inhibitions with the game design, because they were still pretty decent games. Assassin's Creed 3's sin is to take these flaws and all the stupid, and crank them up a level or two. Nearly every problem with the general game designs of the franchise have been called up in Assassin's Creed 3, and given promotions. As a result, I have come to realise that the franchise is pretty rubbish after all. Thank you for showing me the error of my ways, Ass Creed 3. I will therefore give no fucks about Black Flag or your future installments. I'm done.

The plot deserves to be mocked, and I will gladly do that, because BOTH the Connor AND Desmond storylines are frankly crap beyond comprehension. It serves as a reminder to everyone that writers writing for a major AAA video game, should not be writing.

Haytham: "well, son. It turns out that just as I said, I never gave the order to burn down your village. That honour goes to George Washington, the very chap who you've been eagerly aiding for the last few missions!"

Connor: "...fuck. Damn you, Washington! I'm going to go and kill every Patriot soldier on their way to torch my village this instant. And when I get back, I will still help you like a lapdog for no adequately logical reason, if only because Charles Lee is for some reason even more of a dick than you are."

< one short cutscene later, Desmond pretty much walks into one of the most secure buildings in the world, owned by the most powerful corporation in the world, as the most wanted man alive, holding a deus ex machina Apple of Eden that can bend people's minds to the holder's will, through the front door. He casually proceeds to murder his way through to where his father is held before pretty much killing everyone else with the Apple's power, utterly underwhelmingly. It begs the question then, of why they couldn't whip out the Apple from the very start anyway...>

The Connor storyline WANTS to have it both ways. It WANTS to be this majestic tale of a naive half-Mohawk Native American chap who rises from his burnt village to revive the Brotherhood in the colonies and stop the Templars from exacting their plan for a secure new world order. It also wants to be the tale of how those BRAVE and WONDERFUL Patriots drove out the evil child-eating British from the colonies, and how Connor is all the more willing to jump in to this nationally-charged, politically-driven conflict when previously, his predecessor assassins were never outrightly fighting for any national cause.

It does neither of these threads well at all.

The Templar plot thing is only halfheartedly mixed in with the War of Independence. You can tell that Ubisoft was more interested in the latter than they were in weaving an amiably cohesive tale of one beleaguered order seeking liberty facing off against a more powerful order seeking order and peace. Connor is suddenly thrown into random dates and locations that just so happen to be major events that you can find in a kid's sociology textbook on the War of Independence without any coherent rhyme or reason. There are too many characters - mostly real historical figures - that we just don't care about, because we barely ever see them. Ubisoft only wanted Connor to be in all the cool historical events because...fuck it, why not? It's a game set during the War of Independence! How often do we get that? We can't help but cram everything in!

I've absolutely no desire to attain 100% synchronisation, unless I feel it appropriate that I torture myself, as an extreme form of self-flagellation. Besides, some objectives, while certainly not impossible, as many people can probably attest, look like they were included by a sadist. Christ, attaining full synchronisation in the chase sequence at the very end, is sadism personified. It is absolutely shocking how bad the chase sequence at the end is. It beggars belief that it was play tested sufficiently enough. It's not difficult in a good way, either. It's difficult purely in the sense that it's just downright cheap and makes a mockery out of the player for being sensible.

But, hey. The Homestead missions aren't so bad. In fact, I strangely enjoyed them. Building up the Homestead community was probably the most fulfilling thing I've done all game, because the residents there are characters I actually seem to care about, outside of Haytham that is. It's just so bad that I can't say anything good about the rest.

Glitches are everywhere. Like I said before, I thought I encountered a game-breaking glitch, because I was supposed to chase a target through the streets, but every time I restart the section, I am immediately locked on to a bunch of Redcoats eagerly waiting to spear me, and for some reason, I just cannot break away from them to run after the guy. The guards just hit me, and the target flees. Desynchronised. I was only able to get past that because occasionally, the game randomly decided to ALLOW me to get away from the guards to do some actual chasing. I remember having to do a fort three times, because for two occasions, my target just never showed up. I would even get attacked by guards for no reason even though I had zero notoriety. And when I did have a level 1 or 2 notoriety level, I would sensibly decide to tear down a poster. But for some reason, I can't tear down some of the posters.

Perhaps one famous glitch is when an NPC following you notices lines of guards at the checkpoint and says "we need to use the tunnels. Follow me." He then stands there and does nothing , while the map marker does not change.

Overall, it's a mess. I dunno how many thousands of people shat this out (going by the credits that took probably nearly half an hour), but this is a mess. And in one fell swoop, I'm put off from the franchise.
 
The Last of Us.

I really don't know why Sprout hates it so much, it was pretty good I thought. The ending was a bit 'MEH' but it's hard to please everyone with such a controversial plot.

I'd definitely recommend it though; another Naughty Dog classic :) 8.5/10

:lew: I was just making fun of Adri! I love the story ha. The gameplay could be greatly improved imo, but with a story like that, it's easy to forgive the gameplay.

I haven't personally completed a game in a while now...except Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations. It's not as good as the first two Phoenix Wright games, but it's still Ace Attorney so it's all good. I don't think I could hate a game in this series :wacky:. I'm currently playing Apollo Justice and that's a million times better; back on track it is! :sir:

Also I just beat Tales of Xillia, I have to say... overall... I liked Graces better for some reason.

Also Beat (for god knows how many times now) Final Fantasy VI, and I have to say... such a great game from start to finish! Just wish that it was a little longer :(
 
Last game I finished was Xenogears for the first time. yeah, I'm late to the party haha. But I really enjoyed it. Half of me regrets not playing earlier, but at the same time, I'm glad I waited. It was something new and fresh, and I love that feeling you get when you beat a game for the first time.

Definitely plan to replay that again soon. I had some problems with the game, especially disc 2, but I enjoyed it a lot for the most part. Beginning was slow for me though. The soundtrack is amazing.
 
I just finished the latest Tomb Raider game last night. I really enjoyed it overall, but there a few things that I have to say about it.

-The story was very simple, and nothing to write home about. Nothing was really that new or original, and everything was pretty straight forward. I could predict what was going to happen pretty easily.

-None of the characters were all that interesting or at least, none of them really stood out that much. I guess Lara was the most interesting character, but that's because the game's about her.

-Simply put, this game is fun to play, which is what got me through it. Nothing more satisfying that shooting bad guy's in the face with an arrow. Bad thing I'd have to say about it was that even though I played it on Hard mode, it still felt pretty easy except for maybe a couple parts. This is in comparison with a couple other 3rd person action games that I've played for the PS3, like Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us. In Tomb Raider, you're often given the opportunity to get the drop on the bad guys, and if you're careful enough, you can usually take them all out without them noticing.

I think that there should have been more types of puzzles in the game. I was kind of disappointed when I found out that each tomb is only one puzzle, then they're done. It really only takes a few minutes to complete them.

I also started the game collecting as many of the GPS caches, relics, and documents as I could, but decided to just give up on it later on in the game. Collecting all that stuff only unlocked art galleries and character models to look at, so I lost interest.

Still, it was a fun game, and I would play a sequel if one came out.
 
Finished FF XIII for the first time on Playstation last Saturday, then went through FF XIII-2 :D

I've been wondering about this one. I've completed (and plat'd) the previous 3 games and enjoyed them enough, but I'm thinking this may just be more of the same but with shinier graphics. Is this the case? Either way, I'll grab it when it's cheaper.

I recently completed (if you can call it completed) Mario Kart 8 on 50cc mode. Gonna be moving onto 100cc mode today sometime and actually have a challenge, because easy mode is so easy that you never really meet the other racers lmao. Still, worth doing for the unlockable characters.

Overall, I love MK8. It has plenty of new tracks (16, if no more are unlocked later) along with new racers (looks like there may be loads of them...even some DLC characters, which is pretty new for Nintendo).

It's all shiny, has great music, an online mode which if it is half as great as the Wii version, will be addictive as hell. Oh, and let's not forget about battle mode. I always used to win at that.

I love the simplicity of it too. You go to the main menu and start a tournament in seconds. No Nintendo gimmicks with this one folks :D. You can use a wheel if you like that works with the Wii remote like in MK: Wii, but meh. Maybe I'll try it another time (it was free when pre-ordered from Game). I wonder if the Wii U Gamecube controller will work with MK8?

Who can ignore that if you buy the game during the next month, you can choose a free full game out of 10 to download off the store? From Zelda: Wind Waker, to Pikmin 3, to Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate, to Sonic: Lost Worlds (my personal choice)...all the big hitters are there. You just need a free Nintendo VIP account, which every Nintendo gamer should have for the free stuff anyways.

...I'm gonna go play it some more after babbling on for so long lmao :monocle:.

I've never played the previous two, but my boyfriend says gameplay wise, it is the same, but you have 3 powers during the main game and a 4th in post game. I REALLY enjoyed the story in this game a LOT, and the DLC stuff is fun. It is definitely a pretty game though.

I just completed my Chicago Typewriter run through Resident Evil 4. Attempted Professional and promptly got my ass handed to me, so moving on to Resident Evil Revelations
 
Deus Ex: The Fall (iOS)

Is this worth £5 on iOS? That's the fundamental question.

I attained it for free, thanks to IGN (incidentally, free mobile games monthly from IGN is one of the only things they're good for), and off the bat, the egregious thing, the elephant in the room, will be the controls.

I had battles with the controls. While most of the time it's functional enough, Deus Ex is a game that requires fine precision and careful manoeuvring, unless you intend to shootbang your way through its entirety. When I accidentally tap on the wrong part of the screen even though I was trying to avoid a context-sensitive prompt, I can unintentionally KNOCK DOWN A WALL in the near vicinity of enemies when I was attempting to quietly take them out one by one.

This is funnily enough the most tolerable FPS on an iPad I've played yet, probably because this isn't a FPS, and I would avoid firefights whenever possible. The only time I would shoot is when I've a silenced pistol, and an unprotected cranium to quietly blow out. Aiming and shooting at a moving target? Forget it.

Then there's framerate. I concede; I was playing on my first gen iPad Mini (i.e. the non-retina one), and that has the technological innards of the 2011 iPad 2. But Christ, that framerate is horrible. I try a stealth takedown or I try to shoot, and I'm faced for a couple of seconds with Powerpoint slides-like smoothness. Additionally, crash bugs are regular. Save regularly, because it will crash often.

Other than that, it wasn't as ungodly terrible as I might have made it out to be. I mean, most of the time it's functional. It's a very cut-down Deus Ex, and for people who have already played through previous games, this is going to be piss easy for you. At the very least it feels a little bit like Deus Ex, with the hacking minigame, dialogue choices, various routes and approaches to clear areas, etc. To be expected, loading screens are ubiquitous, and areas are tiny.

I want a new Deus Ex, damn you, Square-Enix. Don't give me more of these mobile ones.

Is it worth £5 on iOS? Eeeeeeeeehhhhhhh, only if you really love the franchise. And only if you were able to really tolerate or even like Invisible War. Don't get this on Steam though, unless it's on sale.
 
Last game I finished: Ni no kuni.

All I can say is 'what a wonderful game'. It's sort of a mixture of Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Pokemon and Jade Cocoon. For a game that looks like it's possibly aimed at the younger gamer, I can confirm that it isn't. The graphics are gorgeous and so is the soundtrack but it's the storyline and characters which are just fantastic. There's joy, sadness, humour, conflict, evil and much more. And the storyline keeps you hooked with plenty of 'What the f***...?' and 'Oh my god!' moments. Sorry if this sounds a bit wet but it's been years since I've played a game I've enjoyed so much. Normally I'll start up a game, play for a few tens of hours, leave it for a month or two and then come back and finish it, sometimes. But I played Ni no kuni non-stop for a few weeks from start to finish just because I wanted to find out what happened! I probably haven't been as excited about the next piece of storyline since the tv series Lost.
