Playstation Little Big Planet

My fellas friend got a testing demo and oh my god I WANT A PS3 PURELY FOR THIS GAME!!! We were laughing our arses off, it was so much fun I was weeping lol. Truly one of the best games ever made, seriously.

When does it release, anyway? Let's seeeee...

October 21st? Poop. Same day as Fable II, meaning I won't have enough time to play it. But still, it looks awesome. I've been looking for a game worth playing on the PS3 (haven't found one since the latest Ratchet & Clank game...and maaaybe MGS4).

Ooooh, there's a nifty Kratos character that comes with the limited edition version of the game.

if you order it with Play, you get a sack girl version of the female character from Heavenly Sword figure. But you get Kratos download from an offical PS3 games mag.

I so wish I could play that beta!

Oh well... Ordered the game, so hopefully will get to me by the end of the month.

PS - awesome pics of Sack-Snake and Sack-Sephiroth!

It has been delayed now due to the fact they had some music track on it that they didn't own the license to. :(

Erm.... they did delay it but it wasn't because they didn't own the license to the music track...

Sony issues planetwide Little Big Planet recall

[UPDATE 2]: Quotations from the Qur'an in soundtrack prompt sudden delay of Sony's platformer in all territories; SCEA says it will ship revised copies to North America next week.

Sony's Little Big Planet is one of the most high-profile releases of this Christmas season. Developer Media Molecule has seen its game go from indie darling to AAA system-seller in the past year, thanks to the many appearances that the game has made at trade shows and events.

However, fans of the game are going to have to wait slightly longer to get it. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that it is recalling the game from retailers after it learned that the soundtrack featured some Arabic-language lines from the Qur'an backed with music. A SCEE representative also confirmed to GameSpot that this recall would be global, and could not confirm when the game would now actually hit shelves with the offending music removed.

The confirmation follows rumours that that Singing Safari level of the game features a song with two expressions found in Islam's central holy text, the Qur'an. Cached pages on the official PlayStation forum claim that the two phrases are (literally translated from the original Arabic): "Every soul shall have the taste of death" and "All that is on earth will perish."

Although Sony's press release does not confirm that the above lines are in the game, they do claim that "one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur'an." Independent translation done for GameSpot confirmed that the lines linked from the original post are indeed from the Qur'an.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's press release continues, "We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence that this may have caused." It ends by saying that the company will confirm the new launch date shortly.

[UPDATE]: Impatient gamers may still be able to get their hands on the version of Little Big Planet that contains the Qur'an references. Gaming importer National Console Support said that it has begun shipping US versions of the game to customers who preordered. What's more, the site says that it will ship the game to US customers for Saturday delivery if they order by 4 p.m. Eastern time today.

This is not the first time a game developer has run afoul of the Qur'an. In November of 2002, Microsoft released the Xbox fighter Kakuto Chojin with a piece of background music that sampled passages of the holy book.

An internal Microsoft "geopolitical strategy team" identified the potential problem with the music as soon as the game had gone into duplication. Microsoft had a chance to recall the game before it hit shelves, but decided to release it anyway in the hopes that the music would go unnoticed. Although Kakuto Chojin was a critical and commercial flop, the background music eventually came to the fore, and Microsoft recalled the game in February of 2003.

[UPDATE 2]: SCEA has acknowledged the recall on its PlayStation Blog, apologizing to those offended and for the delay. According to the post, SCEA "will begin shipping LittleBigPlanet to retail in North America the week of October 27th."
That sucks but at least the game's coming out on October 27th, right?

Update 5.10pm: Sony has confirmed that LittleBigPlanet will be recalled worldwide due to two references to the Qu'ran in a piece of licensed background music.

Haha, funny to see the same info posted three times in a row.

Anyway, that is somewhat of a disappointment. I'm going to play this game, although I don't think it is highest on my list of games to play. Fallout and Bioshock rate above that for me atm.

LBP will defiantly be worth a rent though.

Does anyone know when Sephiroth and Old Snake are going to be available to us to download for Little Big Planet? Release dates and such?

I've heard it mentioned somewhere that Old Snake and Sephiroth will be released on PSN. However, I don't think a release date was give. =/

This Christmas i picked up a fairly new game called Little Big Planet, which i believe is only made for the PS3.

This game on the outside looks very very dumb and doesn't seem fun at all. If it wasn't for a friend buying it and allowing me to play it i wouldn't have bought it. Once you get to playing it is lots of fun!

There is so much to do in the game. You can customize your character (His name is Sackboy), and you can hold r2, l2 and move his right and left arms to do what ever you like. You can move his head or his torso just by moving the controller. You can change his mood by the direction buttons making him happy, sad, mad, etc..

In the game you go to all different areas with cool designs and just run around and collect things! you can have 1-4 players playing and you try to collect as much as you can. My favourite part is that you can grab other players to bug them and drag them around :P soon enough the person gets really pissed off haha.

Overall i'd give this game a solid 9/10 for its greatness.

Man, I absolutely adore this game. Me and my girlfriend rented it about two weeks ago (yes, there's a hefty late fee there...) and we both played the crap out of it.

The story modes incredibly short, so we beat that in two sittings, then went back to try and get 100% prizes and what not. Haha.

Both our characters look friggin' ridiculous...

Anyways, we've still been playing it non-stop due to all the massive amounts of player-created levels and time spent making lelvels of our own.

I'm still not sure if it's worth $60 , just because of the ridiculously short story mode.
But it is DEFINITELY tons of fun and not to be missed.

Last week Tuesday they released the Metal Gear Solid 4 Level pack and costumes. I had already played the hell outta the game and was taking a break... but the great thing about the Level pack is it doesn't just give you stickers and items to make yer own levels, it actually adds 5 new storymode levels to play! They are all well designed, considering MM made them its to be expected.

So anyways theres rumors that when they add the Sephiroth costume(s?) they are going to have new levels with it too. That would be great to have some Final Fantasy themed levels to run around on. I'm hoping that they make more than just Sephiroth for FF costumes... I'd like a FF1/3/5 Red Mage or Black Mage costumes. Just some classic costumes, but I'm willing to bet if Sephiroth is a costume that there prolly will be a Cloud costume as well.

I know this is an old thread, but does anyone know if this game is any good or not? and do many people still play it online? Just thinking about picking up some cheap PS3 games thats all and thought this may worth a gander. Maybe it'll just be worth a rental...

^ It's definitely worth picking up, especially for all of the online stuff. The offline mode is still a lot of fun but once you go online you realise just how good some of the user made levels are and they really are great. Of course you come across seem really terrible ones but that's half the fun. Heck, I'd say this and MGS4 are the two reasons anybody should even bother buying a PS3.

Lots of people still play online too so you don't need to worry about that.

I dont own a PS3 ... yet. But Little Big Planet is the sole reason I want it. Have my own Sackboy figure :) its such an awesome addictive game, well worth buying.

Yeah i'd recommend it for a number of reasons, the main one being that there is alot of content in the game. You can get costumes for sackboy of characters from other games such as Kratos from God of War and a number of others. You can create your own levels and post them online so others can play it as well. There's still content that gets released for it and i don't think it will be stopping anytime soon, the final fantasy 7 costumes aren't out yet.

Also if you're into platforming games that's another reason to get this, you won't regret it. :D
