I learned recently that there's going to be a new Superman movie coming out possibly late next year. I'll admit, I'm not big on the Superman mythology but I've been a fan of the cartoons and films that have come out.

The information I've read is that it's not going to be a sequel but instead it's going to be a reboot, something that I've noticed has been a big fad in recent superhero films lately. It's gonna have a completely new cast which I find a little disappointing because A) I liked the actor who played Superman in the last film. One of the complaints was that people thought he wasn't very "built" for the role but I've seen him recently and he's definitely "fit" for the role. And B) Zack Snyder is set to direct and I don't find him to be a very competent film maker. Since he's set to direct, it's my assumption that this film, much like his other's, is probably just gonna be nothing but eye candy with little substance.

Anyway, here's the Cast:

Henry Cavill - Superman/Clark Kent
Amy Adams - Lois Lane
Michael Shannon - Zod
Kevin Costner - Johnathan Kent
Diane Lane - Martha Kent

I don't know how many people here are Superman fans. I just I'd share this.

It's very very old news really, also I think you'll find it's coming out late next year rather than last year.

Anyways, I'm pretty excited about it myself. From what I've read about how Snyder plans to direct it, we can expect a much more modern approach to what we've seen before. His decision to have the Kent parents be much younger than they normally are, is a pretty good idea in my opinion.

In fact the entire films seems to be cast quite well, Michael Shannon is a great actor but I don't know how well he'll do as a villain as physical as Zod, I'd have assumed he'd play a non-physical villain like Luthor.

The perfect guy for Lex Luthor is that guy from the Mummy ..(Bald Dude)

Superman Synopsis Confirms ‘Birthright’ Theory

Published by Jeff Leins on August 19, 2011
As cameras roll on Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel (and click from fans lining the outskirts of the Illinois set), Warner Bros is preparing to move the next phase to Vancouver next month, where the Canadian city will serve as the modern-day equivalent of Metropolis. Part of the process includes a casting call for extras and that call, uncovered by SupermanHomepage.com, provides the first official synopsis… albeit a vague one.
“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.”
The synopsis begins to confirm a theory posited by a friend of mine (and speculated at length here) that Snyder’s Superman reboot is based on the 12-issue comic book miniseries “Superman: Birthright,” written by Mark Waid and drawn by Leinil Francis Yu.

In the early issues of the series, Clark Kent (played by Henry Cavill) is a fresh-faced journalist covering the continuing struggle of African civilians against an oppressive government. (The plot description above omits the early setting, but reports in April suggested scenes based in West Africa.) There, the conflict turns bloody and becomes Kent’s first wake-up call that his extraordinary powers should be used to protect the innocent as a “beacon of hope.” Upon returning to Smallville (which Snyder is currently shooting in Plano, IL), Kent seeks out answers to his past alongside his encouraging mother, Martha (Diane Lane), and reluctant father, Jonathan (Kevin Costner).

Home, he uncovers objects that detail his infancy on Krypton — his parents will be played by Russell Crowe and Julia Ormond — and life since crash-landing in rural Kansas that lead to his pivotal existential crisis. Martha helps transform an emblazoned “S” banner into a functional costume and devise an alter-ego that will keep his identity safe from anyone incapable of seeing around spectacles – which apparently is everyone in Metropolis.
In the comics, Lex Luthor plays a role in an alien invasion of sorts lead by a “Commander Van-Gar.” Warner Bros.’ big-budget version seems to diverge at this point, skipping the return of Luthor (as far as we know) and replacing Van-Gar with infamous supervillain General Zod (Michael Shannon), just as Clark Kent/Superman settles into a heroic rhythm.
Perhaps the origin similarities are coincidental, and WB’s vague description will fit another part of the comics’ shifting canon, but all signs point to “Birthright” as at least a loose basis, similar to how Christopher Nolan borrowed from “The Long Halloween” for The Dark Knight. Nolan produced here and David S. Goyer contributed to both screenplays.

Man of Steel is scheduled to hit theaters June 14, 2013.

New ‘Man of Steel’ Shots Show Bulgy Superman

Published by Jeff Leins on August 31, 2011
Newer, close-up shots of Henry Cavill in costume on the set of Man of Steel show just how bulgy Zack Snyder’s version of Superman will be when it eventually hits theaters in May 2013. Cavill has the dapper haircut, a little Kryptonian flair on his sides, defined muscles (likely exaggerated by some costume padding), and a … errr… codpiece bulge that stands out since Snyder nixed Superman’s red undies. Check out some photos of Cavill fighting a man in a motion-capture suit from WENN and SuperHeroHype:

exactly my reason for wanting to see this. i'm not a fan of superman at all, i think he's stupidly overpowered for a superhero, but zack snyder is one of my favourite directors. it'll be interesting to see how he approaches this considering his background in complete fantasy. sadly, larry fong is not the cinematographer and they make a brilliant partnership.

Ugh. Zack Snyder is going to ruin it. He already turned Watchmen into the very thing the comic book set out to satire, and he'll probably shed any and all of Superman's depth (What it means to be alone and different from everyone else in the world, the responsibility and burden of being infinitely more powerful than everyone else, etc.) for a collection of slow-motion action scenes, likely in an attempt to make the slowest movie ever made.

Kinda sad, because the film could've been fantastic. Supes deserved better (Kinda like how the Green Lantern deserved far better than what it got).
