[Big Boss is back in a brand new adventure]

At the Metal Gear Solid 25th Anniversary event, Kojima took to the stage to show off his latest project. Metal Gear solid: Ground Zeroes, this is to be a open world Metal Gear Solid game which is the first of its kind. This however is not Project Ogre which had been talked about not long back, and this game serves as a prologue to Metal Gear Solid 5 according to Kojima.

The game hasn't been given a year it takes place, but from the trailer/gameplay I will post below; it is a sequel set at least two years after Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

When you watch it click the spoiler tag below
If you are wondering who the boy is in the cage this is Chico as it was mentioned in the translation at the end of the extended cut of the clip which featured a tiny bit more gameplay. It also makes sense as he betrays a woman, which in this case will be his big sister Amanda. Paz the girl from Peace Walker is also mentioned being tortured as well, they are scared she will reveal information on this new band XOF. Big Boss is in his late 40's early 50's in this game and as we can see is apart of FOX now as well. In terms of plot it seems to be the group XOF (FOX backwards) are two armies that formed from Big Bosses 'Mother Base' as later in the video the new 'burned man' mentions 'We are an army without borders' which was the concept behind Big Bosses Mother Base.
The game is running on Kojima's new in house FOX Engine which makes it appropriate for a Metal Gear Solid title. The engine itself is designed to be multi-platform and will release on current gen hardware according to Kojima. The demo was done on a PC with a specification similar to that of a PS3/X360 and using an Xbox controller to navigate during the gameplay segment. (The decision to go multi-platform is ideal because the HD collection was released on Xbox 360 as well giving you Peace Walker so you'll know the story as well. Plus in this day and age he needs funding and sales so broaden it)

There is no release dates for the game but we should hopefully expect a bit more news at the Tokyo Game Show towards the end of the month. Here is the video to the normal cut of the gameplay trailer.

I'm glad to see this. MGS is a series that bred me into the type of gamer I am today.

I'm also glad to see they are going with Big Boss again instead of trying to continue Solid Snake's story. ;)

I am on the same boat with you in terms of how it turned me into the type of gamer I am today as well. They would never have gone with Solid Snake....unless the proposed MGS5 is a remake containing MG1 and MG2 from back in the day. I like Big Boss and well this is the last little gap that needed covering. As usual this will have Kojima's full attention and to be honest you know it will be good with the attention to detail in the graphics and the actual cinematic.

Well just waiting for a release date now :(

Could this be a remake of the events of the MSX games? Metal Gear 1 and 2. I think thats the only part of the story that was never properly explained or detailed. Im looking forward to this!

Now this is another exciting game to look forward to. Peacewalker was the first MGS game I actually played so to have a second game to be a direct continuation to that is something pleasant - in my opinion. And, although I feel that Paz's survival seems rather convenient, I kinda like the idea of another 'Date with Paz' mission again! :awesome:

This is set before those events, I believe as this is a prologue to MGS5 I feel that MGS5 will be the game that covers the basis of the MSX games MG1 and MG2. But that is what I believe he is doing.

Peace Walker was a good game to start off with but you jumped into the deep end of the pool not knowing the events of MGS3: Snake Eater. Unless you read them up online? have you played the others yet?

I don't know if this is relevant to the conversation, but Kojima may have trolled the world when a company called Moby Dick Studio announced a game called "The Phantom Pain." This multiplatform game contains references to past MGS games in the trailer(like for example the main character thinks that his arm is cut off when it is not, images of Volgin, Big Boss and Psycho Mantis)

A crack team of amateur sleuths have put together this evidence list here:

Remember: "From FOX, Two Phantoms were born."
