Monster Arena.

......I did not know that, all tha time wasted AGAIN

I should just throw this game in the bin

Aside from the main story, this was my favorite part of the game. Conquering all the creations that the Monster Arena Owner through at me was a blast. Figuring out some of the strategies to take down beasts like NeSlug, Thu'ban, Nemesis, and Ultima Buster were well worth the sense of victory in the end when they finally fell.

Sure it was a pain in the ass capturing 10 of everything, but it was all a part of the adventure and definitely got you familiarizing yourself with the fiends of Spira.

Strategy? For Ultima Buster?
Sinspawn Ammes requires more strategy. Ultima Buster is simply a matter of power.

The others, though, yes, they are great.

I pretty much had to use it to make some customized weapons I wanted. It was a very tedious job going around and trying to beat 10 or whatever of every single monster in every single area, but well worth it. And I guess amusing if you're really bored.

I kind of wish every FF had a monster arena because FFX did it pretty well.

I loved it, personally.
I had planned on capturing 10 of everything, but gave up at 5. Tonberry's made me want to cry myself to sleep. :(

Unless you're going for Nemesis, you only really need 5 of each, except for the three Iron Giant types (Iron Giant, Gemini A and Gemini B) which you need 10 of each.

I hated the idea at first, but grew to like it in the end. These days I use the capturing weapons as early as possible, catch all the Calm Lands stuff, backtrack to Macalania, capture all that stuff, then try to catch everything from that point onwards. That way, you're more or less halfway there before you start having to go out of your way to catch all the fiends.

I particularly like the challenge that most of the created monsters provide. I have had at least 3 100+ hour savegames on FFX, thanks in no small part to the monster arena. None of the other FF games have wrangled this much play time out of me.

Anyone else see the fail here? :P

By the way - why not go as far back as the Thunder Plains, then? :P (You can't go any further than that.)

I didnt like it either, it was too easy to go back to the beginning and own everything in sight.

I did try to fight the Catoblepas once. There was no strategy involved because it could only attack 1 person at a time. The hardest part was trying to judge how much health he has left because I got owned by his final attack EASILY. The thing has so much health that i used all my characters overdrives 3 times.

This is what I meant to say, above post is edited, and now hopefully devoid of mistakes.

To killiancurse21. I guess you could go all the way back to the Thunder Plains, but it wouldn't be entirely convenient. Macalania is reasonable though I guess, but anything else would be going too far out of the way. Whatever works for you is always best, especially with this entirely option sidequest :)

I found the monster arena to be really fun and entertaining, and added a lot to the replay value of the game. It was probably my favorite side quest, besides the cactaur guardians to get the mercury sigil. It was also how I got enough items to add all the abilities I wanted onto my weapons, and was a great source of sphere levels.

I have tried to finish some areas, but only finished something like 50% of them or so.
I fought the creations only when the battle was for free. I got my ass kicked very fast and never tried again. At least I was smart enough to steal some items before dying.
And that as they say is that

I love the Monster Arena its the most fun when you characters are overpowered and you fight enemies with massive hp and just spam attacks :3

IMO, that kills the fun in it. Fighting them weak is much more satisfying. Heck, I've beaten them all in a No Sphere Grid game (although I had no choice but to use powerful aeons for five of them - the rest, beaten the genuine way).
