I think theres a new virus going round on msn, two people (lone wolf and Derek to be exact :P) both opened conversations with me saying "look at these old pics of us i found" and since it was the 2nd time lone wolf did it i accpeted it...and when i unzipped it and tried to click on the picture all hell broke loose =/ and like conversation windows started opening and closing left right and center so i terminated the power as soon as possible.

Just a warning to everyone out there, and if you see anything like it DO NOT accept it and run a virus scan ASAP.

Good thing I can't be bothered to log in on msn then ^_^

So what did the convo windows say?

it said "Oh look at these old pictures of you and me i found" and then the file =/

I wont be signing on to MSN again until i've ran a completed virus scan =/ im really worried about it...and id recomend Derek and Lone_Wolf run virus scans too

Has anything similar ever happened to anyone else?

I got something like this last night. Someone IMed me and said "This guy says he knows you, is it true?" and they tried to send a zip file through to me which I don't except files unless I know exactally what they are, even if it's from a friend because the exact same thing happended to me before and started to shut down programs on my computer

I'm REALLY sorry. i got it from a friend got it sent too. i unzipped it and it wouldn't open...instead msn windows opened up EVERWHERE. i found out later that the virus sent itself to all my contacts that were online

And btw. i'm using MSN still even after gettin the bitch. so far nothings been afected...however...derek said his computer crashed...meh, nothing. i kicked the shit out of it before it did harm

I'm too worried to sign onto my msn, im scared it'll happen again =/ I'm running a virus scan now and its gone through all my documents so i think im clean...but i want to be sure =/

You tried to send it to me twice in like...3 hours so maybe you didn't get rid of it =/

Well thanks for letting us know AG. I can't log on to MSN anyways because my connection is being shitty today.

XD

Well, I'm already good. It was nothing real major, but thanks for the concern AG. Hinds said that I tried to send him a file, but the transfer terminated before it was complete because I immediately turned off my computer since it was going wacko. Doesn't really matter, becaause I was already planning to wipe my computer as soon as I find the OS Disc.

The question is... Who started the chain?

Would a system restore remove this thing from my laptop? =/ it started again just a few seconds after i signed onto msn...

i only accepted it coz i thought it was porn...

edit: the only affect ive had is taht i've been unable to open chat boxes...

Thanks for the warning. I'll definitely keep an eye out for that. I'm very wary when it comes to opening files anyway, so I think I'm all good.

i ran a system restore and it seems to have gone away ^_^ but i;; be wary for the next few days.

and everyone else should be too ¬_¬

I haven't had any problem with MSN lately, except that it keeps saying do you want to open this file, everytime i log on.
Edit: I haven't got a clue how to get rid of the bloody thing.

Ok, I've dealt with this crap so, when you get a file transfer request that say something on the lines of:

Are these pic of you?

Check me out on these pics and such...

and when it is a zip file named image/s , it could be a virus.

If you download it and unzip it it's no big deal, now, when you unzip it it may contain 2-3 files, 1-2 actual pics , just random ones, and one file that is named IMAGEXXX.exe.jpg , or jpg.exe, either way. That's the virus. What it does is, block you from chating, and it automatically sends file transfers to everyone in your contact list, until you clean it up :D

The best way to sense this virus is whenever you get a file transfer request, firs try to talk to that contact, if there is no response block them, so as not to be bothered by the continuing FTRs, after some time unblock them see what the situation is like.

I personally didn't catch it, but 5-6 people on my contact list had it, I really don't know how you can't recognize it, but i guess you just don't expect it, never mind.

So this are basically some guidelines on how to avoid it.
