Music legends

ABBA, cheesiest group ever? Perhaps. But, they've sold over 375 million records and everyone knows at least one of their songs ^_^ Which is why they should be considered music legends.

My friend was singing ABBA today silly girl. I really don't like them but I guess you can't argue with record sales.....but that would mean admitting Cliff Richard is a legend *shudders*

Hey, Cliff Richard's pretty cool. =) I love his "Ocean Deep" the most.

Ah let's see, this is pretty tough.

I'd say Madonna is definitely up there. I mean, that woman can sing despite the crazy clothes she wears.

Air Supply is also a favorite from many, many couples. They've got some pretty cool love songs.

AFI. It's gotta be Davey Havok's voice!

Bob Marley - Influenced an entire generation of music.

Johnny Cash - "" "" ""

Oscar Peterson - Possibly the best Jazz musician alive today.

Elvis Presley - I don't really like him, but he changed music, whatever way it's looked at.

Ray Charles - Same as with Marley and Cash, extremely influential.

Ludwig van Beethoven - Bridged the gap between Classical music and Romantic
Music, revolutionised music completely.

Franz Liszt - Best Piano composer to ever live.

J.S Bach - Basically invented Baroque music.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Bridged the gap between Baroque and Classical music, revolutionised music.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky - Changed Romantic music with his use of Tone colour and huge orchestras.

John Williams - Best Film Score composer, 'nuff said.

Frank Sinatra - Influential in modern music.

Luciano Pavarotti - Considered "The World's Best Tenor"

Jimmy Page, best guitarist out there, you can have all your boring noodley technical stuff, but Jimmy is god, alongside Hendrix.

Angus Young, weilds the SG like sexy music machine capable of making you just want to motherfucking rock.

SRV is great, he was best blues guitarist for 10 years in a row, but Jimmy Page > all

also as a music legend
phil spector, produced all the beetles great albums and i think he did some pretty good other ones in the 70s
he isnt a musician, but he has definatly influenced music

The Edge (form U2) - his guitar is second only to that of Jimi Hendrix, but seeing that Jim isn't among us anymore he is number 1, Bono's not the reason i listen to u2.

Noel Gallagher - The true mastermind behind Oasis success, he penned most of their hits, wonderwall, supersonic, champagne supernova, they came from him.

Dr. Dre - i've lost my love for hip-hop, but his dark sinister g-funk sound made my day multiple times.

The Beatles - I don't like them but their huge success is unquestionable
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Jimi Hendrix
Jimmy Page
AC/DC
Aerosmith
Queen
Guns 'n' Roses
Bono (JUST Bono, not U2)

In terms of legends..
Bob Dylan is definatly my number one choice, he is definatly one of the most influencial artists of his time, and still gets recongnition today.

Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath and Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple/Rainbow.

Tony Iommi's guitarplaying more or less created heavy metal, and I really can't think of any other band than Black Sabbath who has been such a direct influence on an entire genre. Ritchie Blackmore is just great, be it in Deep Purple or in Rainbow. He will probably be forever known for the Smoke On The Water Riff, but if you dig a little deeper than that, you'll see true genius.

He is one of the greates, but what do YOU think makes him so special?

Although he won't be remembered on an international level, Bradley Nowell was one of the most brilliant and creative artists of the 90's. Sublime's music was surfer, rock, punk, hiphop, alternative, reggae, ska, metal, and whatever else he wanted to integrate into his music. 100% Legend material, if only he hadn't died so early in his career.

Those who know who Sublime is, love 'em. I've yet to meet someone who doesn't. And if you don't, you're dead to me anyway, because of the ignorance involved with disliking a band that has no two songs that sound the same, but keeps them real enough for someone stingy and only likes one genre, to like all of their songs.

EDIT: And I'd like to say, I despise U2, Bono is a piece of crap, but their music is respectable.

U2 are amazing and Bono is a legend! Blasphemy! He has such a gorgeous voice and the songs are pretty much ALL top class.

Although creative, a bunch of train whistles organized creatively won't be listened to, and, I won't listen to any more of U2.
I respect them as artists, but that's as far as it goes. And the 'Bono is a piece of crap' was actually a reference to a South Park episode. I have no opinion of Bono himself, but U2 I do.

Maybe technically, but I prefer Jeff Healy...RIP Jeff Healy :( I was never sucha big fan of SRV, but I didn't like blues after the 60's much.

Anyway, besides Dylan, i'd also say Neil young, Nick Cave, Elvis Costello and Tom Waits for their singer songwriter skills.

Marcus Miller is the bassplayer ever, and I guess most bassplayers would like to take him as an example.

Ike Turner is also an Icon never to be forgotten. He actually made the first popular rock and roll son (rock it 88).

Most of my fav have been listed though:
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Jimi Hendrix
Jimmy Page
AC/DC
Iron Maiden

Chuck Berry and BB king for their blues contribuations, also Robert Johnson
David Bowie

John Fogerty from CCR
Fleetwood Mac
Eric Clapton
Kraftwerk to be the first to actually make electronic music
James Brown
Fats Domino
Aretha Franklin
Otis Redding

Pfff...so many more...
