Hi I'm new here and have just finished my play through to FF8 and completed it for the umpteenth time and had some views I wanted to get across.

Firstly FF8 has been my favourite FF game and first I've played in the series and was the soul reason i got so addicted to FF.

I hear many conspiracies about how many people think the moment squall is hit by the ice spike on disc 1 (after your first battle with Edea) many think he dies and anything after that is a dream. Obviously it goes against everything square stood for back then so seems a bit farfetched.

Anyway after i completed the game yesterday i noticed a few things i never twigged onto before that being after you beat Ultimicia and squall is searching for Rinoa he travels back into time when he was at the orphanage with Matron, when there he tells Matron who he is and mentions SeeD and the garden but Matron doesn't know anything about SeeD or the garden as she hasn't thought of the idea yet.

What i think the conclusion tells us is that FF8 is a looping story, I think Squall was meant to travel backwards in time to tell Matron about SeeD and the garden so she would build them in the future.

The only thing that gets me stumped is Ultimicia, when Matron accepts her powers (when she finally fades away) i think that's how Ultimicia takes over Edea in the first place. If you remember Dr Odine says Ultimicia travelled back into time using a machine he built based on Ellone's powers but it was Ellone who sent Squall and co. In the future which in turn brought a dying Ultimicia back to the past.

They say sorceress' need to pass on their powers so they can rest in peace so to speak, yet when Edea (Matron) passed her powers onto Riona she didn't die?

If this makes no sense i understand,i do realise I'm going on!

Anyway what conspiracy theories do people have?

If Ultimecia had taken over Edea there and then, then she wouldn't have built the Garden in the first place. I don't remember if it was specifically said how Ultimecia possessed Edea but if it was not said then it can be assumed that she did using the machine Odine made. When Ultimecia fade away - that was it. She only gave her powers away and then she died.

If you remember Dr Odine says Ultimicia travelled back into time using a machine he built based on Ellone's powers but it was Ellone who sent Squall and co. In the future which in turn brought a dying Ultimicia back to the past.

Actually Ellone sends Ultimecia inside Adel in the past. Squall and the others are only able to travel in the future because Ultimecia achieved time compression when Ellone did that.

They say sorceress' need to pass on their powers so they can rest in peace so to speak, yet when Edea (Matron) passed her powers onto Riona she didn't die?

I believe that's true only when they're at the verge of death. Edea wasn't and I'm sure it is mentioned that it was something like a side effect when Ultimecia left Edea and possessed Rinoa.

Anyway what conspiracy theories do people have?

There's the Squall is dead and Ultimecia is Rinoa theories. I don't know of any others and I don't have one either. But I'd die to hear from the developers themselves what the hell where they thinking when making some scenes. Especially the last one. Just right before the part where Squall faints or whatever and is engulfed in a white light, there's a sound that resembles the one that the gunblade does in the introductory fmv. Does anyone know what the hell is supposed to be happening there? Does anyone have a theory that makes sense?

Final Fantasy 8 is also the first one I played and it's the one that hooked me to the series as well. It's still my all-time favorite FF to this day.

Exactly, it is a predestination paradox (causality loop). Squall plants the idea of SeeD into Edea Kramer's mind thereby creating a predestination paradox in which Squall is predestined to (again) become the leader of SeeD -- through Cid Kramer's knowledge of events -- so that he can return to this point again completing the causality loop.

The only thing that gets me stumped is Ultimicia, when Matron accepts her powers (when she finally fades away) i think that's how Ultimicia takes over Edea in the first place. controlling her later in the future

Yes and no, Edea Kramer inherits Ultimecia's powers, but not her consciousness. Edea Kramer is already a sorceress and knows Ultimecia is evil, but chooses to inherit her powers in an effort to protect her children, especially young Squall. It isn't until later down the road that Ultimecia ends up sending her consciousness in to the past (through the use of the Ellone Junction Machine) to control the sorceress, Edea Kramer.

If you remember Dr Odine says Ultimicia travelled back into time using a machine he built based on Ellone's powers but it was Ellone who sent Squall and co. In the future which in turn brought a dying Ultimicia back to the past.

Actually, before time compression, Ultimecia could only move her consciousness through time and not her physical self, this is where the Ellone Junction Machine from the future comes into play and only for this purpose (I apologize if I'm repeating myself). However, after time compression, Ultimecia could physically move herself into any time period she wished to exist in.

They say sorceress' need to pass on their powers so they can rest in peace so to speak, yet when Edea (Matron) passed her powers onto Riona she didn't die?

From my understanding of the game, they don't die from the act of passing on their powers, a sorceress can free herself of her powers anytime she wishes. However, if a sorceress knows she's going to die, and she wishes to die in peace, she'll have to free herself of all of her powers.
