My sigs, made in gimp

Since when is "Go read a tutorial" Criticism? Ive alctually read alot of tutorials. None of the Gimp tutorials are very good. I mean, theres some really good ones out there, but the only really good tutorials for Sigs are photoshop tuts.

For example:

Gimp tut result:

Photoshop sig and tut are better, am I right? Photoshop is obviously less limited to what you can do. Plus ive only been doing this for like 4 months. And im actually pretty proud of myself.

All im asking is, for some real CnC. No "looks bad" or "looks awesome". Something constructive.

Everything is open to opinion.
"I'm not impressed" = This isn't the style for me.
"I've seen some sexy GIMP tags and they look nothing like this" = You should look for inspiration with other resources to help you improve.
xoxo.

There is a MASSIVE difference between saying ''im not impressed'' and saying ''this isnt the style for me'' and im pretty sure you know that autopsy =/
Depedning on the person the words chosen when using C+C can either really knock a person down or can inspire them to make the best thing theyve ever done. Theres nothing really wrong with getting to the point but putting it nicely is far more polite. Its fair enough if you know that the said artist wont be offended but that isnt always the case with most people. Im a pipe fitter from aberdeen not a graphic designer and to me gfx is all fun so i try to help people out with whatever little things i things i can. Not be a prick = /

Dalton, btw there are some really great gimp tuts out there, you just gotta look hard for them. INfact i think theres a few on this site by a member called GFX guilder, u should take a look mate ;))

I love the Cloud one, the effects, background, and layering all mesh together perfectly with that red cloak of his. When I saw those I first thought, "I didn't know Gimp stuff could look so good." But then I noticed that you use Photoshop CS4 as well. Now its no surprise. XD

Of the three Cloud is my favorite. I don't know what you did, but his stock just looks very crisp. It's excellent stuff.

Hm, I see you must be excited to have PhotoShop now....

I like this one, I've always liked messy signatures and this one is messy, in a good way of course. You kept the color scheme well with the original stock, tis always a good thing if you're not that good with colors. Though that small black space under the sword shouldn't be there IMO, its not a mayor deal its just a 'me' thing.
Well done. ♥

I'm not a big fan of this one, but that doesn't mean its not good. I think I see what you were going for, ya know having the animal thingy seem as if it was hiding between the grass, & I think you did a good job, again the color scheme is fine. The stock was very well blended, you id a fine job. ♥

This one is well blended and the colors go well together, but I think that the overall image is a little too messy & not messy in a good way. Its fine, though the colors are a little burnt, if you were going for that then you did fine. =) One thing that does bother me about this signature is the brightness on Sora's face, I think it might have been a little too much. Maybe that's just me, though.

Now, I see that all three signatures ae missing text but I'd say that they're not needed in this case, you did well, keep going at it. ♥

Stay with Photoshop..its working for you. All of your gimp stuff is okay, i am not digging some of them, but a few of them are quite good ^^. As for your photoshop stuff, its a good start, could use some tweaks here and there, but i am sure you will learn in due time. Go to DA, and look at some tutorials there, learn some nice tricks and report back here. You have a lot of room to grow, so expand your ranges and go outside your comfort zone. By doing that, you will be able to realize your true potential.

:monster:

This one is well blended and the lighting is fine but the, when you're looking at this piece among others, I don't think this one will stand out too much. The focal point is there but perhaps its not that well defined. Maybe I can't put my finger on it but there's somehting about this signature that doesn't make it stand out too much for me. Maybe the colors are too bland and too dark or perhaps that empty space to the right of the signature. Maybe you could have put some text there merely to draw more attention to the image.

I like this one, its so cute. The stock placement is good but one that stands out & kinda bothers me a bit are the brushes going over his hand, ya know that circle to his lower left side. I don't think you should cover parts like that too much, I think it would have been fine to have some of the brushes over the edges but not over the entire hand. I like that color scheme, you made the dark color go well with the image, but that dark space to the right corner of the image, perhaps that's a little too dark. Other than that, you did fine. ♥

Keep woring at it, with each signature you make your skills improve. ♥

This one is very good!

Lovely blending and the colours mesh well together.

Very good lighting and I noticed very small text next to his hand.

I would suggest brightening it up a bit so that it's readable, otherwise it's really serving no purpose if it isn't readable.

I would also place it a little further away from his hand.

I think that if you added in a few more effects around him that it would make this signature come alive!

Keep it up!

This one is interesting!

I like the image used and the blending of it all is very well done!

Lovely detail in the background and the focal point is well established.

I like how detail of the background appears through gaps over on the darker side too. It looks good!

Not much else to say but keep up the good work!

Definitely stick with photoshop, it'll get the best out of you, and it's already showing.

Very good for someone new to photoshop, the colour scheme goes well together and blends in well with the stock, the lighting is good and the effects used are also good. Like Kandy, I'd just suggest raising the opacity of the font, or change the colour so it stands out a bit more, and raise it slightly. But don't get hung up about text/font, it's always the most difficult thing to do. Solid piece though, good work!

This again, is a very solid piece. You've choosen a nice image to work with. The effects on a whole are very good, as is the lighting. The colour scheme is great and I think you've used the brushes very well. If anything, I would say lowering the opactiy on the brush towards the right hand side as the black contrasts a bit too much with everything else. Other than that it's fantastic!

Keep up the great work :D

Huge improvement here mate. Nice work. Id suggest blurring your BG and sharpening your focals. As theis tag stands atm everything is pretty sharp. Try taking out your blur tool, and on an applied image layer blur the bits that are in the BG. Like the blur tool use your sharpen tool to strengthen your focal. This will give your tags much better depth and in turn make a much better piece of art. As the others said i think u should change the blending mode on your text aswell so its more visable.

Big improvement though. Nice work ;))

Well, the colors on this one flow fine, nothing seems outta place which is a very good thing. The image is blended in very well, perhaps a little too well. If you were going for that, then you did a good job at it. The lighting is well done, but perhaps the signature looks a little too plain, perhaps text would have helped but then again it looks fine as it is. =)

Okay, first thing I'd have to say about this one: its adorable. The blending again is very nice, very well done, the wings fade into the background very nicely. Again the colors are nice and flow great, nothing out of place. The lighting is good to me but I'd say that again it needs a little something, either way, you did a good job on it. =)

Keep at it. ♥

This one is quite good!

The blending is well done and you've done a good job with the lighting.

The background looks great and I like how it gets darker towards the edges in order to make a better focal point in the middle.

The colouring works well and the subtle effects look fantastic!

I'm not too sure what that circle thing is near his head, but I think it could be blended a tad more so it doesn't look so slapped on.

Other than that lovely work!

I like this one, its simple and the colors flow in alright but....the light source I think its set in the wrong direction. Ya see his face is lighter which suggests that there is light coming from before him, that's all. I know you can forget stuff like that so its not a big deal or the moment. Another thing I don't like is when things overlap the borders, I'm not sure why but that's more on a personal note. ♥

This one is gorgeous, I love this one! ^^ The blending is done so well, the colors flow in great, the text is there without taking away from the entire image and the focal point is very well developed I'd say. The light source in this one is good, very well done, though the empty space on the left might be a little too big but that doesn't matter, you did great on this one. ♥

I like this one, too. Just as the others, the colors are blended in nicely, the background matches the image and the text is there without taking away from the image but again the empty space at the left bothers me, its there and....perhaps the text could have gone there to serve as a type of 'balance' on the entire image.

You're improving very quickly, keep up the great work. ♥

This one looks really good!

You've blended her in well and the pink and purple looks really nice together!

The softness around the edges looks good and the focal point is well established.

I like the texture of the image and the text suits the signature. Lovely font used and the colour works in well.

Placement is also good.

I like the colours used in this one. It goes good alongside the colours of his outfit.

Fantastic blending and the texture of the background looks great!

Very good lighting up top on the character and the border looks good too.

The text is nice and clean and the font is well chosen.

I really like this one!

The colours are nice and warm and I love the hints of blues and reds down near the right hand bottom corner of the signature.

You've done a brilliant job with the blending in this one!

The lighting is fantastic and the image is clean and very appealing to look at.

The background has a nice texture about it and I like how the orangey/red bits look like fiery bits of molten rock or something. XD

Thanks :)

IM not really feeling the text on the vert tags. The placement on the second 2 overcrowds the focal a little too much this is helped by the stroke round the text which makes it appear really bold especially against a blurred BG. A few minor changes are needed but theyre still pretty good tags.

I was meaning to comment on this but never got round to it.
I think this one is your best. Its pretty damn good. Good colour cheme, it works in harmony. Good blending. ABout adding depth to it. I think if you sharpen the area of smudging to the left whilst leaving the smudging to the right blurred it would give better depth. The stock has that look that its sorta coming towards you so try and play on that by looking at what bits would be more in focus and what wouldnt.
Your improving fast. SO keep at it. I enjoy looking thorough your thread ;)
