N o t . I n t e r e s t e d - A Cloud Strife Club

Haha, good one. :lew:

For saying, umm, let's see. :hmmm: I can totally not see Cloud saying surfer speak. for example: "No way, bro."

That is, unless it's sarcastic. Like this:

Reno: "Whoa, what's up, bro!"
Cloud: "I'm not your bro, bro."

^LMAO! XD

Okay yeah, that one has to take the cake! xD

Calilily: thankies! You're totally right as well, Cloud would never use 'bro'.

Or 'dude', now that I think of it.

Here's one that always makes me laugh when I imagine Cloud saying it:

Cloud: "Ouchkabibbles."

:tehe:

Did you guys here about Kitase saying they're not planning on a remake?

Does revisiting a previously established Final Fantasy world excite you? Do you have any interest in revisiting, say, Final Fantasy VII over another? In the past, you said that you wanted to make a sequel to XIII because you liked the universe and wanted to expand it. Do you feel the same way about another entry in the series?

Kitase: If we are talking exclusively about VII, we made a film that was intended to be the sequel. At the moment, we have no specific plans for making any sequels to past FF titles. FFVII was made over 10 years ago, and there are lots of fans that love the game. In a way, they have created their own FFVII world individually, so if we were to make a sequel, we would have to be very careful not to disturb fans' own individual picture of that universe. It's a very delicate thing to do. We'd have to tip-toe around it. At the moment, we don't have any plans.

I gotta respect how respectful Square Enix is to their fans interpretation. Not many creators would do that. They'd just kick some fans in the ass and finish it but not them. :ryan:

Which brings me to this:

If they remade FFVII what would be one thing Cloud could do that would just throw you off or (his personality strays into OOC)?

Me too :raye: I'd be laughing the whole dang time but I'd be so regretting the fact that he dresses up like that. :lew: Poor Cloud...

The thing that would kill me is if they decided to make Cloud angsty, the way he was for the better part of AC and appears to continuously be in KH. :hmph: CLOUD IS NOT A FREAKIN' EMO! Sure, he's got issues, but I mean, he's a Final Fantasy character for crap's sake! They all have issues! At least Cloud adjusts to them rather well, considering.

Oh! He finds out his memories were a fake! His reaction: Well, that hurts, but I can admit I'm a weak person and I strive to be better.

Oh! He finds out that he was experimented on for five years! His reaction: ARG that really sucks, but I know I'm human thanks to Tifa and the others, so I will not let that worry me. (Unlike Vivi, *ahem*).

Oh! He finds out that his hometown has been burned and all the people he cared about slaughtered! His reaction: "Mom, Tifa, the town... give it back."

No sad, piteous wails to the moon. No speeches and gagging cutscenes exploring the inner soul (with the exception of the Lifestream scene, since that actually produced results and wasn't just an emo monologue). Nothing of that usual sort -- no, in fact, when Cloud finds a rough spot, he toughs through it, gets the answers and then accepts and moves on.

NOT A FREAKING EMO.

If they ever decided to rewrite all of Cloud's stoic and snarky personality and replace it with this 'emo' Cloud, I will kill myself.

Others may die also.

I'll play this one by ear.

I don't know. He wasn't emo in AC or KH. He's just a mature man dealing with crap outta this world. When Squall faced problems he practically cried and begged for people to talk to him with the whole "i don't want friends" thing.

But for Cloud; In the compilation I saw a man who had seen and dealt with more crap before he was 25 than anyone else in the game did. He not only watched two very important people he loved die in front of him but he blamed himself, on top of that he had an incurable disease. AC did have an emotional scene that had great, if not amazing, results--the Forgotten Capital scene. All he needed was a little time with the one he believed he failed and then he was ready to fight. Vincent helped him sort the rest out as well. So he wasn't "emo" for no reason. The smile at the end of AC proves he dealt with the problems that had been plaguing his life for the last two/three years of his life.

The way Cloud acts in AC/KH etc... I just never saw it as emo. An emo person puts their emotions and problems out there for the whole damn world. Cloud is an enigma. He keeps to himself and doesn't cry about his problems on their shoulders. He gets up like a man and goes off by himself to try and deal with it himself. That might be alongside drinking alcohol but he's still dealing with it himself (much like what most depressed men do). Sure he makes the conclusion that it's better if he's dead by not trying to fight any more... but can you or I blame him? He had a disease that had no cure.

The song brompton cocktail is the only thing I can relate to how Cloud was feeling. :hmph:

But yeah, if they all of a sudden made Cloud some emo guy that cries on his friends shoulders out of nowhere about how his life is so bad*coughlikesquallcough* I'll make my noose now. That's one of the sexiest and coolest things about Cloud. That he won't cry about his problems to anyone. I mean even when people beat him over the head to talk about it he's still holding back a lot. So yeah, to see him say stuff like "oh hey guys, pay no mind to me I'm just really sad." I'd be pissed.

Enigma Cloud>than any fans idea of emo. :hmph:!

Another thing that would ruin it for me is if they made him happy-go-lucky like Tidus or Zack. Through the entire compilation we've seen Cloud laugh/smile only three times. Once with Aerith and then once on the Highwind with AVALANCHE and then the smile at the end of AC. I'd be weirded out if they made Cloud smiling and laughing like the way Zack or Tidus did. Cloud's just not like that. He's stone cold. :gonk: A man with a stiff lip and little to no sense of humor. A man who is, as Hades said, "stiffer than the stiffs back home."

In other words, dead people in hell have more personality than Cloud. :lew:

So this is one other thing that would make me cringe... if they made him giggly or happy like Tidus and Zack. :lew:

I'd definitely like to sign up.

While I'm here, I haven't been around for a little while...what's happened to the other clubs? I.e the FFVII club?

Did you guys here about Kitase saying they're not planning on a remake?

destructoid

IIRC, Kitase remarked upon the larger scale of FFVII in comparison to recent games and how much prohibitively higher production costs would be to create a FFVII sized world in digital terms.

The more I think about what Kitase said, the more I think he's wrong about highest costs. They have the 3d models for everything from the previous FFVII game. It wouldn't necessarily be a complete rebuild from the ground up so much as re-texturing and converting models to a higher polygon counts with added detail.

I think the real reason Kitase wouldn't want to do a FFVII remake is how low the potential to improve upon it without drastically changing things, is.

Everything is so defined from the character backstories to their personality traits. How do you create a game(or movie) that adds to the legacy? There's not much that can be done, rlly.

If they remade FFVII what would be one thing Cloud could do that would just throw you off or (his personality strays into OOC)?

They'd likely give Cloud more dialogue and add cheesy, sarcastic, one liners for comic relief.

Cloud is like Darth Maul. He shouldn't have many lines & fans should remember all of them. :ohshit:

Yes. This. All of this.

Ya know, at first I thought Cloud was emo in AC, but that was before I played CC or played FF7 again all the way through.

The guy's been through so much. Besides, AC was meant to show Cloud's journey out of his sadness (well that was a huge part of the movie anyways). After Sephiroth was killed, was Cloud meant to be all happy dandy? Go to Midgar (Edge) and just restart? No. There was so much that happened during FF7's storyline that Cloud had to put aside because he needed to fight Sephiroth. He didn't have time to sort his personal issues.

However, now he has all of that, time. He's left with nothing but time. In that time, (2 years) he had time to think about Aerith's death, his true identity, Zack, the life-threatening disease he has. All while having to deal with his current issues, like Marlene and his business, and Tifa. He's been drained of everything. He's not "emo".

And...welcome Farro. :lew:

IIRC, Kitase remarked upon the larger scale of FFVII in comparison to recent games and how much prohibitively higher production costs would be to create a FFVII sized world in digital terms.

Um...hello :O Do you know how much money you'd MAKE :rage:

But...I do want a remake :sad3: Eventually :sad3:

c a l i l i l y

Sorry for late reply, I just got too busy with school. :P

I get what you mean, but.... okay, it's hard to explain, but here's how I see it.

In KH and in AC, Cloud was more.... broody, than we see in the game. I don't want a broody Cloud. I want a Cloud that is shy, stoic, but still capable of snarkily joshing his friends now and then.

That line from KH that you quoted, Cali, is exactly what I don't want. Cloud may be haunted by the past and all the crap that happened to him, but he doesn't dwell on it. As you said, he deals with it and moves on. So WHY is KH Cloud not doing that? That.... simply isn't the Cloud I know and love. It'd make more sense to me that he'd be pissed and want to eviscerate Sephiroth with a vengeance but this whole "~I am stoically and enigmatically sad in a wistful, searching way~" just isn't cutting it for me.

No. No no no. I was rather puzzled with his behavior in KH. I mean, he's always been a mystery to his friends, but he always had a good reason for it, too. MORE than a good reason, in fact. Even in AC when he was bordering on suicidal depression, he had a damn good reason. I'm not asking that they make him happy-go-lucky and I heartily agree that making him a weepy, bleeding heart would also be equally bad.

I just don't want them to make Cloud into this perpetually sad-and-downer guy that never cracks a smile. We know he laughed at least a few times in the game (I'm certain it was more than 3 but I can't remember the scenes atm lol) and he said a few funny things as well, even joshing Barret around a few times. If we want to count "To A Smile" stories, he laughs pretty hard there too. In short, for all the crap he's gone through, he's a fairly well-adjusted dude, who can laugh, party, have a good time and all that jazz (albeit in a quite, understated way) and isn't obsessed with all the bad that's happened, is happening, will happen to him and his friends.

All I ask is that, in a remake, they don't take away the variety of emotion this character is capable of -- that we have, in fact, seen plenty of -- just to make him a stereotypical "I'm scarred by my horrific past!" cardboard cutout. If they do that, they will definitely ruin what a great character they'd made.

Aaaand, now that's over, I have 2 pictars for ya!

Cloud 1

Cloud 2

hey can i be part of the club please. i was part of the lifestream club but no idea whats happened to that. anyway love final fantasy 7 and cloud is defiantly my favorite character. he is way cool

Of course you may join!! :lew: Be sure to read the rules on the front page, okay? After that, tell us what's your fav thing about Cloud?

- - - - -

Lol, I've never seen Cloud joshing around before. :wacky: His stoic, enigmatic searching way is what Cloud does though. He's on his way to finishing his battle. When he left Radiant Garden and followed Sephiroth that was Cloud finishing (or trying to) finish his battle.

And Cloud usually doesn't crack smiles anyways. He does, but very rarely. In VII, he only laughed and smiled twice--one first with Aerith than the other time with all of AVALANCHE on the Highwind. So... even if he's never shown smiling I think it's pretty in character. :lew: He laughs once in CoT and it's when they're all plastered and Barret is telling a story. I also think I remember there was a part in CoT where Marlene told a joke and Cloud never cracked a smile and instead his answer was "That's not really possible." So in total. We know that Cloud's smiled or laughed four times in the entire compilation(at least in VII, CoT, and AC).

--so he's not really one who jokes around anyway. :lew:

I was under the impression he did focus on the bad... since he allowed that focus to make him want to move out and die. :/ Cloud's not really the one to not focus on the bad.

I agree though. Cloud's this combination of being an enigma but having quirks(like being claustrophobic) and he does unintentionally say those few things that people usually laugh at (the mosey thing or the bear in a marshmallow thing) but when he says things like that he's not seeking to crack a joke he's just being... quirky. It's his quirky self. Doing things that others think is weird/funny but not even being aware of it himself.

What I mean is, he didn't go "Hey, saying 'let's mosey' would sure crack all my friends up." and then said. He said it cuz he didn't know how others would view it. :lew:

Nice art btw. :ohoho:

1. Oh, Cloud joshes his friends around, but it's a very quiet kind of snark. Like the bear in a marshmallow. He'd have to know that'd piss Barret off, and while HE may not laugh like a troll, he is teasing.

2. I think we may be taking this a bit too seriously, counting the number of times Cloud has smiled/laughed/chuckled/etc. <_< I mean, heh heh, not like we get to 'see' the characters all of the time, right? I mean, we don't see them use the bathroom, right? Needless to say, my point is that we know he DOES laugh/giggle/snark/chuckle/etc. He is actually capable of it unlike.... some other characters..... *coughvincentcough* So he isn't a total, 100% pure stoic enigma. I mean..... he's only human, right?

3. Cloud did focus on the bad in that one instance that you are talking about Cali, in AC. But then, we also know that Sephiroth was trying to make him off himself, so take that with some salt. But in every way I see it, Cloud merely uses the bad moments to push himself further, to try more and do better. Tifa falls off the cliff when they were young -- he joins SOLDIER to get better at protecting her. Shinra destroys Sector 7 slums -- he goes on a mission to take out Shinra and Sephiroth. So while these things are negative in nature, he's using them as reinforcement to keep pushing himself to be better. Those things never go away for him, but he doesn't linger on them constantly.

4. I lolled so hard at the motion-sickness conversation with Yuffie. ^_^

thanks calilily :) to me cloud is fantastic, the greatest hero of any final fantasy to date. my favorite thing of cloud is the way he walks about, quiet yet powerful in his stance, very cool. he dont take no mess from anyone. anyone say anything odd he goes "not interested" especially in advent children when he was in healing lodge talking to rufus, then reno said "come on cloud to gether we can rebuild shinra". cloud: Not interested.

Ooooh can I join

Clouds awesome he just so awesome

What I like about him is he's serious and fearless but he wont just jump around. I never thought he was emo I always thought him as quiet which in my opinion is awesome. Quiet and Mysterious XD
Also he has an awesome voice in Dissidia

I picked up a Quote that is awesome towards cloud

"Yuffie: Cloud, say something!"
"Cloud: ......something."

Gals & Guys... Cloud is absolutely hideous in his new picture. :gonk: I mean, he looks like he got wasted on weed one night then his walleyed ass stumbled out in the ocean and allowed a squid to live on his head and act as either a hat or his hair! :hmph: It's that bad. :hmph: I was expecting it to be weird since this guys' other artwork was a tad bit iffy while still being sexy in its own way, but this just is... :ffs: It's seriously nothing like his other art. Cloud doesn't even look like Cloud. :gonk:

That said! I am enjoying Cloud being drawn all angsty and broody. They always make him stay him and I love it. Angsty Cloud brooding about is how it will always be. :inlove:

cool-wings, yes you may join. ^_^ I agree. Cloud being quite and reticent doesn't make him emo :hmph: it makes him the awesome enigma that he is. :inlove:

Also, yes. I LOVE that quote. To me, that is one of the defining moments in Cloud's character. Just that one word and how he answers Yuffie sums up his entire character perfectly. Awkward but always remaining that stoic enigma, giving off this impression that he doesn't give a damn. :cali:

Whoa, whoa whoa.... what picture are you talking about?

I found a really cool one the other day, now I just gotta find it. >.< ARG! So many tabs! D:

You don't know about it? It's from some new novella SQUARE ENIX is releasing. It's about the Turks but it has some brief mentions of other characters of Cloud and Co.

all sketches together
The girl
the guy
Reno & Rude
Cloud & Tifa

Those I uploaded the other day, so to spare my album from using up its bandwidth please save and reupload to your own album, please. ^_^
