Here is my first attempt at a full bio.
ORPG/RPB
Name – Thamuz Delville
Title – Esteemed Knight Templar of the Holy Lodis Empire
Alignment – Good
Race – Human
Gender – Male
Age – 57
Appearance – Thamuz is of slightly above-average height (6’1”). He is fairly well-muscled, but not overly bulky. He has a small birthmark on the back of his right hand, in the shape of a cross (this is a family-specific birthmark, all Delvilles have it). He has fairly pale skin, in spite of the fact that he spent the majority of his life on the battlefield. Otherwise, his skin is unblemished and otherwise unremarkable.
Thamuz’s face is fairly thin, with very defined cheekbones. He has grey hair that is always slicked back. He has a neatly trimmed grey mustache, but no other facial hair. His eyes are bright blue, and of average size. He has bushy grey eyebrows that are set in a permanent arch, giving him the appearance of permanent skepticism. His face is free of blemishes, except for a small scar on his left cheek, under his eye.
Attire – Armour, to be described below
Personality – Thamuz is an old-school military man, through and through. He has a very no-nonsense personality, as a result. He very rarely smiles. Thamuz deals only in the real, and doesn’t abide dreamers. “Keep your head out of the cloud! Focus on what’s in front of you!” he bellows often to those under his command. When it comes to his treatment of civilians, Thamuz treats most with cautious respect. Overall, he is a man of few words. He would say, “The more a man talks, the less he likely knows.”
First Impression – Any soldier who meets Thamuz would be greeted by a nod of the head. When spoken to, he would give as brief a response as possible. “A man who is inefficient with his words is inefficient with his blade,” he is fond of saying. People would find Thamuz to be cold, but not mean, at first glance.
Strength – Thamuz is an older gentleman, and doesn’t have the strength that he used to have. However, he can still lift a sufficient amount of weight, a good deal more than most men his age. He can lift all of his equipment (about 80 lbs) with little to no trouble.
Given an opponent with little defense, a punch from Thamuz would deal about 50 out of 500 damage.
Speed – Thamuz can run at top speed (with his armor) for only about 3 seconds without tiring. He can sidestep fairly quickly though, and his attacks with his sword are also moderately fast. Overall, Thamuz is not especially fast. For his size, he runs about as fast as a rabbit. He is older, after all, and simply doesn't run like he used to.
Endurance – If Thamuz were to take an attack head-on, depending on the nature of the attack, he would probably take a good bit of damage. While he is fairly strong and fast, he depends on his sword and armor to do any actual defending for him.
Thamuz, however, has been a knight for many years, and can fight for hours on the battlefield before he tires and needs to rest. He isn’t the best at running, though, and only run short distances before tiring.
Reflexes – Decades of fighting in sword-based combat have sharpened Thamuz’s reflexes to a fine point. His peripheral vision is not as strong as it used to be, but he can spot an oncoming attack and react to it very quickly.
Fighting Style – Thamuz fights sword-to-sword almost exclusively. If it comes down to, he can fight hand-to-hand as well, but he prefers the sword. His style of swordsmanship is mostly offensive, and is lacking in cowardly tactics. He always fights his battles head-on, but he is also very aggressive and fights to win. In hand-to-hand combat, Thamuz’s style is rough-and-tumble. If he’s using his hands, the situation is likely out of control anyways, and Thamuz is just fighting to stay alive. Thamuz uses a one-handed sword, and is adept with both hands. He often switches his sword between hands mid-battle to confuse his opponents.
Weapons – Thamuz has a single weapon:
Peridot Sword – This is a Delville family heirloom, passed down to each successive generation of warrior. Thamuz inherited the blade on his father’s death 27 years ago, and has used nothing but the Peridot Sword ever since. The sword has qualities of both a rapier and short sword. While it has a very sharp point and a fairly narrow blade, like a rapier, it also has a flat blade with sharp edges, like a standard sword. The blade, which is made of top-quality metal, is about two feet long, and has a winding curve, much like a snake. Running up the center of the blade on either side is a sliver of unknown blue gemstone, which gives the blade some unique properties. The blade is full of inherent cold energy, which Thamuz can channel into a couple of special attacks (see below).
Armour – Thamuz is never seen without his full set of plate mail armor, which is called the Southern Cross. The mail is made of a material called Baldr, which is a moderately sturdy metal. The advantage of Baldr is that it enhances magical abilities, and so Thamuz’s cold based attacks are made slightly stronger by wearing his armor. The armor has a standard silver finish. The borders of the plates are inlaid with ruby, and there is a large gold-and-ruby cross on the breastplate of the armor. This cross is the symbol of the Caliginous Order(more on them below). Thamuz wears no helmet with his armor.Thamuz's boots are equipeed with metal cleats, so as to give him better traction (used with Piercing Cold, see below).
Abilities – The inherent energy in the Peridot Sword can be channeled by Thamuz into two separate attacks, both involving the use of his sword directly:
Piercing Cold – With this attack, the blue energy from the gemstone in the middle of the blade will focus in the tip of the blade. This is the only visible sign of the impending attack, since Thamuz is so attuned with the blade. Thamuz can use this energy in one of two ways:
He can form an extra tip on the blade made of pure ice, which extends the reach of his thrust by another six inches.
Also, instead of forming the "ice extension", he can channel the energy into the ground or his surrounding, causing a frozen radius of about 1 yard out from the point of impact.
Frozen Slash – With this attack, the blue energy previously mentioned migrates to one side of the blade. The energy then augments the blade, adding a second edge made of pure ice. This effect gives Thamuz two slashes for the price of one. The first cut made by the ice blade is only slight, because the blade will shatter fairly easily. However, this opens the area to the second edge of the actual sword. Also, the impacts will be stronger due to the extra weight of the blade, but Thamuz will also favor whichever side is augmented, as a result of the weight. This attack only works for one side of the blade at a time.
All of these attacks cause extra cold damage. Also, with both of these attacks, once used, the Peridot Sword loses its blue energy for about 30 seconds. This reduces the blade’s effectiveness and durability, and also removes the ability to use the above attacks for the duration.
Magic – Knights Templar are forbidden to use magic beyond what their weapons allow, so Thamuz has no other magical abilities.
History – The Holy Lodis Empire is a nation built around religious devotion to their god, Filarhh. The Empire is led by a Pope, who has total control over all aspects of the Empire, including its military. Devotion to their beliefs is one of the trademarks of the people of Lodis. The Army of Lodis is the standard rank-and-file, and is made up of regular citizens, but the Army also contains elite units called Orders. These Orders are made up of specially trained warrior-monks, who are considered both religious and military leaders. One such Order is the Caliginous Order, which has traditionally been led by the House of Glendale.
Four generations of Delvilles ago, Thamuz’s great-grandfather Drogan was a normal soldier in the Army of Lodis. In a battle, he spotted another wounded soldier cut off from his unit. He fought his way to that soldier, and protected him throughout the remainder of the battle, losing two fingers from his left hand in the process. The soldier he protected turned out to be Lord James Glendale, leader of the Caliginous Order at the time. Lord Glendale was so impressed with the young Delville’s courage and strength that he offered him a place in the Caliginous Order, in spite of the fact he was not a warrior-monk, but a regular citizen. The current Pope accepted this, and the only non-monk to ever fight in an Order of Lodis was established as Drogan Delville.
Each successive male Delville entered into the military, as was the tradition of this family. When the patriarch would die, the oldest male in the next generation would be given two items: the family’s Peridot Sword and the empty position in the Caliginous Order. As generations of Delville proved their worth to the Order, they began to gain more and more respect. Eventually, he was regarded as the Order’s second-in-command, reporting only to which Glendale was in the Order.
Thamuz himself joined the military when he was 16, lying about his age so that he could enlist early. When his parents found out, he got a lecture from his mother and a new sword from his father. By this point, the Delville family has acquired a solid military reputation, and Thamuz did nothing but exceed even these high expectations. He repeatedly turned down offers for promotion, saying that he would rather “stay in the thick of battle, not behind the lines where it’s safe”. This kept Thamuz on the field for several years, which honed his skills in sword combat to an extraordinary degree.
When Thamuz was 30 years old, his father died in the Bolmukan Rebellion, and as was tradition, he was asked to join the Caliginous Order in his father’s place. Thamuz took up the Peridot Sword and began serving under the aging Lord Calvin Glendale. Calvin died one year later, and his son Bartholomew took his place. Bart Glendale was only leader of the Order for eight years, and was assassinated by a religious fanatic while he was visiting a foreign country. His son, Richard, is the current leader of the Caliginous Order, making the third generation of Glendale that Thamuz has served. Because of this, Thamuz has almost absolute respect from Richard, making him one of the only people he fully trusts.
