So, I'm having a rough time deciding who to use as my main character. Honestly I'm open to anyone, I really just want to see the pros and cons of each, so if anyone could tell me that would be great.

WoL with crits, he can do massive damage if you know how to combo with him. He has a great ground game and that is where you should prefer to stay on while playing. His air game, while being alot easier to block, can deal massive damage and has a vast amount of combo possiblities if you catch the opponent of guard. Downside is, hes predictable.

Garland has some of the strongest moves in the game. When mastered, hes a beast. His ground game is extremely dangerous, with multiple guard breaking moves. His air game, while not as deadly, is full of surprise attacks and good punishers that when mixed up, will allow you to rack up a good amount of Brave. Whats really great about him is his ex mode. No more do you have to fear players that wait for you to attack first and then counter attack, for even while you are being attacked you will not stagger when youre using an attack. This can completely change an opponent's strategy. Downside is that he has a massive learning curve and that landing an hp attack can be difficult when not in EX mode.

Firion is a tactical character that has many tricks that you can use to overcome the opponent. The most important thing about firion play is the combination of fire, straight arrow and shield bash. His ground game deals steady hp damage while his air game will keep the opponent from trying to abuse your predictable ground game. Downside is that when the opponent doesnt react the way you want him too, youre in for a long gruelling battle.

Emperor, a character that requires you to be cunning and think one step ahead of your opponent. He requires for you to do alot of setting up before he really starts doing damage. Downside is, his effectiveness is stage dependent.

OK has a very simple style. Hit them and deal hp damage. His advantage though is that hes the fastest moving character in the game. But he has VERY weak attacks and is predictable, having only four brave attacks.

CoD, the most unpredictable character in the game. Her effectiveness depends on the opponents actions. In EX mode however, she has rape combos and no lag time for her moves.

Cecil, simply a horrible character. The only good thing about him is that you can change jobs in EX mode which is a useful mindgame.

Golbez has long combos and a very good hp game. In order for him to do his combos perfectly though, he needs the opponent to stay still, meaning youre going to have to abuse your lasers in order to force them to stay still. Downside is that his air game sucks >_<

Bartz, HE HAS NO DOWNSIDE, hes basically solid in all factors, but is not outstanding in any factor, so basically an all arounder.

Exdeath, a very very defensive character. Playing Exdeath is all timing. Exdeath's gameplay is all dependent on the opponent and whether they feel like attacking or not. Some characters however, have no way at all at countering Exdeath, causing some to believe that he is "top tier"

Terra, simply the most hp rape character in the game. Meltdown is one of the best hp attacks in the game. Terra plays a really damage based magic style. In EX mode her attacks deal massive damage and can completely ignore an EX guard. The downside is all her brave attacks are dashable.

Kefka requires that he tricks his opponent with the strange properties of his attacks in order to do well. Played correctly, he has the most powerful magic in the game and reach 9999 brave easily. His EX mode just adds to this and can completely turn the tides of a match.

Cloud is a character that will combo you to death. The moment he gets you against a wall, youre in for some pain. Omnislash v5 cause crash damage which completely destroys a characters hp and his damage output is one of the best in the game.. Downside is that many of his attacks are easy to block, so you need strategic approaches.

Sephiroth is a brave rape character which depends on his midranged attacks to ver come melee characters by keeping them away, and using certain moves to force mages to get closer. The downside is hitting with an hp attack.

Squall is yet another brave rape character. using his impossible to block on reaction attacks, he will quickly break an opponent and then proceed to rack up his brave. He however has problems landing that final blow, although let so then sephiroth.

Ultimeicia is YET ANOTHER brave rape character. Using her great range she will widdle away at your brave at a distance. Like the other brave rape characters, she has troubles ending the match, but less so due to apocalypse and time crush.

Will continue the rest later

Actually, IMO squall has the best hp attacks around, both circles are impossible to dodge if you combo them right after the right Bravery attack.
Rough divide is just pure deadly once you learn when, how, and where to use it.
Blasting zone is VERY deadly if timed right, EX: When ultimecia cast apocalypse, when cloud tries a braver, well, by the time you get him to level 100 you'll see what I mean :D

Actually, we found all of Squall's HP moves very easy to dodge. We use Zidane are our main, and we fight against Squall a lot because we have a friend that mains as him.

Both circles, we have learned to dodge. We can run straight into them no problem. Once you get to a certain point in the move, a simple dodge, not even dodging out of the attack, will get you out of it.

Rough Divide is simple. Once you see the move name pop on the screen, wait for half a second, then dodge.

Blasting zone is the only tricky one. Even for that one though it has to be executed properly in order for it to hit you. Most of the time, we can dodge that with no problems what-so-ever. :mokken:

We've never lost a match to anyone using Squall. Except for one, when we first started playing, but other than that, Squall is one of the easiest characters to take out. :mokken:

Against CPUs, Beat Fang which is Squall's most deadly move can chain into Aerial Circle. Which is REALLY CHEAP since it basically nulls Squall's biggest disadvantage. When I play Squall, I don't use that combo. And also, it doesn't work on humans. So while you have a point, it isn't enough to make Squall's HP attacks "the best HP attacks around". Ultima, 0-Form, both Flares and every BP>HP link would like to talk to you.

And allow me to continue Kumo's list.

Zidane is an excellent character, with Swift Attack as his most deadly move, which is basically Hop Step with a HP link. While his other BRV attacks are very easy to block on reaction, they can combo and do a LOT of damage (Everyone can do Rumble Rush > Vortex > Tempest > Tempest > Meo Twister!). His HP attacks are also good, Meo Twister being an excelent HP link, Free Energy being one of the fastest HP attacks in the game and Shift Break, while being hard to use, when you master its use it becomes REALLY deadly.

Kuja is the character with the safest attacks in the game, and an excellent counter to ground-based characters, heck, he is an excellent counter to basically everyone. "Watch this!" is fast, has slightly good range and does high damage, "Burn!" has really great vertical range, is very fast and does not stagger Kuja if blocked, Remote Flare and Ultima are godly for punishing missed attacks, and the list continues. A very good character.

Tidus, another character with good BP attacks and bad HP attacks. Hop Step is quite godly, and a dodged Hop Step can sometimes be punished with a deadly Full Slide, which can combo into itself and then into Hop Step, doing a lot of damage. His dodge moves are pretty bad overall, but they are useful for countering HP attacks. Stick & Move is probably the most useful one. They link into HP attacks, and if they activate Counterattack or do critical hits in any other way... He has slight issues in doing HP attacks.

Jecht, the manly embodiment of manliness. His ONLY disadvantage is the fact that he must be close to his opponent. He has few to none options versus mage characters. But other than that, he is godlike. His BRV > BRV or BRV > HP combos ARE EXTREMELY AWESOME AND VERY FAST AND IF CHARGED CAN TRAVEL A LONG DISTANCE AND BE UNBLOCKABLE *gasp* Yeah, a good character. My original main.

Shantotto is just horrible, but if played by extremely good players, she can be very good. If she gets a Break and a Binded opponent, then Flood > Burst will tear down his HP. But if the opponent breaks her, your battery will run out before you manage to get your BRV back.

Gabranth, my favourite character. With a good equipment & accessory set, you can make his EX mode almost infinite. Which is awesome. Dual Rend is almost as fast as Hop Step and Swift Attack and does more damage than both together, and has a LOT more range. Innocence and Vortex of Judgement are GODLY against magic users and very good against any other characters. Some CPUs won't even bother dodging Innocence.

If there's anything I left out or if I'm wrong with anything, then please do tell.

I will admit, when I downloaded the demo I myself got pummeled by perfect beat fangs and thought "There's always a cheap one..." You are right on many points and quite so, but his attacks take perfect timing to make them connect.
• Fated circle, after a left/right dodge gives a 1 second window to dodge, which is bad for bots, newbies, and stoners.
• Aerial circle may take a little indignity to make work
• Rough divide is impossible to dodge if you catch people with their pants down, for example if firion casts straightarrow just immediately spam RD and you got him, same works for other sluggy attacks, albeit situational the near guaranteed wall-rush is worth it.
•Blasting zone is one of the top situational attacks that exist, if countering the right move

So, most of his HP attacks ARE hard to connect without perfect timing, they're powerful. Buuuuuut, he is way easier to connect with then sephiroth, I'd know, These two are sadly and frustratingly my favorites:rage:

Yes, I have a level 100 squall so I'd know, I don't quite disagree they are hard, but with timing they're fantastical.

P.s. Dart & weave + sneak attack on Tidus= win

I think you should start as cloud because then you can play as him to get the controls and everything down because he is one of the easier characters to play as. And then after you have mastered the games controls you can move to a character to play as such as Tidus, Jecht or Squall ( because they are all different styles of playing) Then you can play as however you want. Just a suggestion! That's what i did.

Just to add to shinryuu's list

shantottos a character for people that love to punish. She can do massive brave damage
and can break an opponent quite easily, but it requires you to play smart. Downside is that she does horribly against any brave raper and exxdeath

gabranth is gonna get more ex guards than anyone in the game. More ex blocks means more ex counters, mean more safe damage for you
