Did anyone else notice that in FFXIII there were no chances for Ambushes on your party? I mean granted it was a good thing for you but it would have been a bit more challenging if they did put them in the game.

What do you think?

How exactly would they have implemented them? I remember a few of the more challenging enemies were difficult to get past on the map and some popped up outta nowhere but in terms of actually making it a disadvantage in battle I don't think it would've worked. Do they have to make contact from behind to get an ambush?

That's what I would say. I mean we would have to attack THEM from behind to get a First Strike so why not vice versa? It wouldn't have been hard for them to impliment that into the game since enemies were free roaming around the boards anyway.

:hmmm: Yeah, i've noticed that aswell. You'd think they'd have Ambushes, seeing as how you can pre-empt if you time it right (I can chain pre-empt lol)
But it felt kinda wierd not having the occasional ambush, Mind you, i've had a 5 on 1 battle so i'd imagine it be a major pain in the ass getting through a 5 on 1 ambush...

Well there were times in XII where you had a 5 on one battle and sometimes more if you had enemies follow you without defeating them.

Although I am not a big fan of being ambushed and being defeated it would have been a nice element to add.

Oh yeah I will have to agree here. I have noticed that the party never gets ambushed in which case the enemy never gets the first strike. You can get a preemptive strike in which case you always attack first. Final Fantasy XIII could have been more challenging with that. Just imagine if a group of behemoths ambushed you. It would be tough because they are really quite strong. Although it does feel like that would not work. Some enemies are fast enough to attack first, but ultimately the party has the advantage. Also the cie'th stone missions were quite hard at times. It would be a nightmare getting ambushed by two Rakatavijas.

Since they appear on the map it would be pretty hard for a fiend to genuinely ambush the player, if the feature was implemented it would just never happen.

to be honest im thankful for it, i think the battle balance is just right and this is my favorite ff of the series, although it is the one im playing through at the moment

I always wondering why they took them out, It wasnt a big deal for me if it was in but I did wonder why since its pretty common and makes sense with roaming enemys. I actually got attacked alot from behind when I didnt feel like fighting (vanille and sazh at sunleth waterscape -_-) yeah It shouldnt be too hard for them to make it happen since they would just have to fix the battle phase for when we get hit from behind thats it.
