Very true. Hoping for a big name developer would probably be a mistake though. Even the new Deus Ex, which is a much more popular IP than either Vagrant Story or Parasite Eve, is just getting done internally by one of the former Eidos studios.

A smaller upcoming WRPG developer might be worth going for. CD Projekt who did The Witcher would be a good fit I reckon.
Yeah, I do like me some CD Projeckt, though I'm still pissed about not getting a proper console Witcher game with a decent combat system. CD Project is another company with great writing ability, as far as I know, because I believe Andrzej Sapkowski didn't write the plot for the game, just the books and short stories on which it was based, yeah? They could do a Vagrant Story II quite easily, I think.

could be good, could be bad. if they kept the setting, the style, the lore, the characterization, and the story in tact, i'd be OK with it. making decisions that will affect the outcome of the story is fine, as long as there's a 'true' ending somewhere that i can consider canon.

I'm with you on Witcher. I plan on getting the Enhanced Version as soon as I get a decent graphics card. Good thing Witcher II will be on consoles as well as PC.

I don't doubt that Obsidian/Bioware/CD Project can make a good sequel, I just don't think they can make it better than Yasumi. The guy wrote and directed the thing after all. That guy's focus has always been on innovation in gameplay, and Vagrant Story is like no other game I've ever played before. Even if they did work with SE, Yasumi left the company during the development of XII when he stepped down as Director of that game and was only credited for Concept and Story. Don't forget Hitoshi Sakimoto's haunting score in VS, you can't have a VS game without Sakimoto because he is the -man-.
