Am I the only one who is a little pissed off all the CGI sequences used in this game? I think about 40%-50% of the game is CGI. I think they could have released this game a lot sooner if they hadn't used so much cgi. I mean it looks pretty and all but was it necessary? I guess I won't really know until I play the game. But I feel like they tried to make this game over the top pretty. I would have enjoyed less CGI and they could have used that time to work more on XV or something... I dunno. I'm not really complaining. I just think this game was in development for way too long over certain parts that were definitely optional. CGI is great and I love it. I just don't like half of the game being CGI sequences.

I am not that disturbed by that. Nothing beats just having popcorn and watching the GGI cutscenes. It is kind of relaxing to watch them, no matter how long they are. There may be too many for some but not for me.

The main thing that bugs me is the factor of Leona Lewis doing the opening theme. Just...I can't stand her, at all.

I know what you mean. I have mentioned many times my disapproval in SE thinking that this style-over-substance route is something obligatory for Final Fantasy nowadays. Though the CGIs are beautiful to look at, I would prefer it if they didn't spend so much time on them in general.

They could have squeezed in a Japanese voice option for the English release of FFXIII. But Kitase said they couldn't even on a Blu-Ray disc because of the amount of CGI. That's how worryingly commonplace CGI must be in the game then. It's worrying in that although the game is pretty, reviewers have called it at times soulless. Basically SE put too much time on the visuals- like that rock polishing part.

So much CGI has meant a lot of money used up and a long development time when visuals don't a game make.

It sure seems like a complaint, and a pretty good one.

I wouldn't really know what the content of the game is like, as I haven't looked into it much. But if it is CGI excessive, it wouldn't really surprise me. With X and XII, you could see the games going in that direction, and I think I've come to brace myself for something of an overhaul of CGI because of either of those installments. It is pretty of bothersome, as I'd rather play than watch my roleplayingGAMES, but it's also within my expectations at this point.

As far as development issues go, the nails have already been hit on the head. Production is slowed, certain aspects are sacrificed, etc... It's a shame that things are made much more tedious for the sake of more CGI inclusion.

Sounds like this game suffers from MGSIV disease. Way too many cut-scenes, way too little game.

We like cut-scenes, we really do. However, we also like being able to play the game. You have no idea how many times we've watched a cut-scene and thought, "Wow, we wish we could do that in the actual game. It looks like fun."

I agree that there should really be a better balance between cutscenes and gameplay than what there is, but at the same time...it really doesn't bother me. That there are so many cutscenes in the game shows how much effort has been put into the storyline, and in an RPG the storyline is, of course, of vital importance. Cutscenes are infinitely more interesting than walls of text to me - they add more life to the story, stop it from being static.

RPGs have been getting more and more cutscene orientated as time has worn on, and whilst this isn't an entirely good thing, its not something worth complaining about, in my opinion. Of course, my opinion could change when I get to play FFXIII, but...well, we'll see.

The ideal compromise appears to be, in my opinion, something like what we've been seeing in Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect - that is, the story being told in-game by the choices you make. Although I doubt we'll see this sort of thing from a Final Fantasy game...ever.

well yes, i guess i am complaining. I'm just not whining about it. But still want to express my disapproval over what they did. Like Tsukianei said. We like cut scenes, but we also like to play the game.

Well as Martel has said there should be more of an balance so that it doesn't feel more like a movie then a game. It's nice but at the same time they could've toned it down just a tad. I'm neutral on this. It's nice to have something beautiful to look at then rather text and whatnot but the development would've taken a lot less time and I don't like waiting as it is :mokken: We'll see what happens when it actually releases. Maybe it'll be worth it-- maybe not.

I don't like it all! I mean, you have a great game like Xenosaga, and it's almost ruined by something like a fifteen minute cut scene. If I wanted to watch a CG movie, I would rent one. I get games to play, and I get movies to watch. Why can't they get it right for once?

It won't bother me if they're short, but they once they go past a few minutes, I'm ready to take the game out! I don't know about you, but for me, there is a such thing as too long and too much. Whew, that felt good!

I think I'm having trouble understanding what people mean by too many CGIs. Do you mean individual lengths, or just generally a whole lot of little CGI scenes?

However pretty, lengthy CGIs aren't something I'm gonna complain about. I do play games because they're games and pretty graphic scenes should be secondary, but I've enjoyed cutscenes. To me, when you see a scene, it's relevant to the story, and even acts as a little rewards for the gamer for having come as far as they had to see the scene in the first place.

And anyways, as mentioned already, it's more pleasant to sit back and watch a scene rather then reading a bunch of text or have to be prodded to keep pressing X to continue the dialog.

The difference with MGSIV CGI's is that they were massive in length from anywhere between 5-10/15 minutes. Whist I'd rather have more gameplay, lots of CGIs won't bother me in the slightest as long as it's not lots of lengthy scenes. Short ones are fine. :monster:

Complain when the games out. I mean its not on the shelves yet so we cant really say anything at all atm. From my own point og views i care little for CGI's id ratherr have more gameplay although saying that the ff series has had some fantastic action packed ones sooo...

The only problem with MGS4 having loads of cut scenes was the fact that game wasn't all that long in the first place. I mean, the first 2 locations of the game take up the vast majority of the entire game. There are only 3 locations where you fight human enemies (supposed to sneak tail someone in one area) and the last one take 10 minutes to complete.

That being said, will FF13 be the same? I don't think so. It is most likely to have much more play time just based on the fact that it is FF and they usually have many hours of gameplay (story, sidequests etc).

Then again, what if the story turns out to be absolutely fantastic? I don't think any one will complain is the story is great. That is yet to be seen though and I'll have to play the game to find out.

I don't know whether they're long or short and i'm not really complaining about the lengths. I just read that the blu ray disc was pushed to the max to fit in all the cut scenes and this is the same reason this game took so long to come out. I mean, are the beautiful cut scenes whether long or short really worth waiting a whole extra year to play the game? IMO it's not.

I'm glad that they are putting as much effort as possible on this game, even if it take a little more time for them to make. Trust me that the wait will be well worth for a game like this.

No offence guys, but I do get really annoyed at all the nit-picking people are doing and the game hasn't been released yet, unless people have been importing the game and have already completed it I'm gonna take these critisms and null and void.

As someone else has said the game hasn't been released yet, so just relax and wait til it comes out, then complain if there are too many CGI scenes or whatever, maybe this game will be worth the wait in the end.

Hey, after seeing my brother playing through Metal Gear Solid 4 some while back, I am not the least bit upset about it having a lot of really good cut scenes.

Sure it has been a long wait, but the game itself is going to be superb, it looks pretty darn good to me, I think people are just filled with too many doubts to just look forward to the game and not be picking out everything they don't like about it. :/

you only think that because all you've seen of the game--the trailers 'n' stuff show like 90% CGI! lol Don't worry. I am POSITIVE there will be PLENTY of gameplay time to counteract your CGI sequences. Besides, I really LOVE CGIs to be honest!

I love cut scenes in games, so if its mostly CGI Im not complaining. The game looks truly stunning and I cant fault what Ive seen so far. Its going to rock IMO.
