Okay I'm not complaining BUT...

Am I the only one who is a little pissed off all the CGI sequences used in this game? I think about 40%-50% of the game is CGI. I think they could have released this game a lot sooner if they hadn't used so much cgi. I mean it looks pretty and all but was it necessary? I guess I won't really know until I play the game. But I feel like they tried to make this game over the top pretty. I would have enjoyed less CGI and they could have used that time to work more on XV or something... I dunno. I'm not really complaining. I just think this game was in development for way too long over certain parts that were definitely optional. CGI is great and I love it. I just don't like half of the game being CGI sequences.

In truth I haven't seen or heard how much of the game is CGI sequences but I really can't see it bothering me. I mean, that's sort of what FF games are all about isn't it? I remember a review of FF10 in a magazine a few years ago that slagged off random encounters and said they were the main downside of the game, up until that point surely random encounters WERE Final Fantasy? I am a MGS fan too though so if I don't let those cut scenes bother me I'm guessing FFXIII will be a walk in the park in comparison.

to me story line and cut scene comes first battleing comes second which is why i love ffh.
uh and it suppose to be around 60hr long ith only doing the story line and no side quest however if you do all the side quest then take much longer and their suppose to be around 10hr of cute scene in it. So i am happy i have not herd a single thing i dislike about ffh 13 yet

No. I've always thought of CGI scenes as rewards for making progress through the game. So no, I have no problem with it. The good thing about it taking so long is that hopefully it'll be good.

Same here.

I'm not that bothered by how movie-like this game is, because with RPG's, you get used to having to sit there and listen to the story for a long time. Final Fantasy is obviously story/character driven, so you're going to need a lot of cutscenes to back that story up.

Now, I'm not exactly a graphics whore, but with the way Square Enix tends to showcase their CGI is incredible. It's nice to see a CGI once in a while as a reward for getting farther into the game.

After all, we love Final Fantasy for the story, right? CGI sequences are mostly there for showcasing the story in a better way.

I don't hate cgi. In fact, I enjoy them. I just think 13 is incorporating way too much. I mean, it maxed out a blu ray disc for gods sakes! Hopefully it will still be enjoyable. I just don't want to sit through a 10 minute long cut scene every 5 minutes. I guess I'll find out for sure when I get the game.

My opinion?

The video game industry is focusing less on the game, and more on how cinematic the experience is. I mean, sure, Final Fantasy has always been known for ass long cutscenes, but when you have a "game" that 50% CGI, that's taking it a bit to the extreme. If I wanted a movie, I'd buy one. I want a game, and I expect to actually PLAY it.

My thoughts exactly. They should just take away half the cut scenes and give us 100 more hours of gameplay. that'd be awesome. If we are waiting this long to play a game, we should have a longer playing experience. Not just more "oohs" and "ahhs"

Yes, yes, yes! That is exactly what I was trying to say in my first post. It was okay like ten years ago, when they couldn't use the game to do things they did in the cut scenes, but now they have no excuse not to make the things playable.

I am against branding interactive movies as games.:bored: If you want me to sit through twenty minute cut scenes and you have less then 200 hours of play, story only, then you are an interactive movie and not a game!

I highly agree with these responses, games these days focused more on the "cinematic" experience and less gameplay. I'm surprised to find out that FFXIII actually maxed out the BluRay disc?? :gasp: If they maxed it out, why do we have a very linear gameplay? No "real" towns [as what GT Review said] and less freedom, what's the space for? All those cutscenes? They should've made FFXIII a movie instead if that's the case. I'm waiting for feedback before buying the game i've been expecting for years! :whistle2:

you say your not complaining but you are one of the main reasons people buy final fantasy is for the cgi.remember the cgi in ff7 it wasnt the best but at that time it was amazing one of thefirst games to do so and every ff game afther that got better and better its not going to stop i say bring it on.3d?

I admitted that I was complaining. lol I don't mind CGI. But I think they can take it a little too far when too much emphasis is put on the CGI and they begin replacing gameplay with it and like others have said it is becoming more like an interactive movie than a game.

I understand how people mistake CGI and ~~~strict~~~~ storytelling main elements of RPGs. But honestly, neither of the two couldnt be close to defining a RPG in my opinion. (Purists could argue that is a true statement.) If a bunch of CGI and strict story telling made an RPG, then what the heck, might as well label everyone one of my DVDs and VHSs role playing movies.

A roleplaying game is all about freedom. Freedom of your character through customization, freedom of travel in a submersive world that can be explored corner to corner no matter what part of the game your at. Interaction with NPCs, and most importantly giving the person taking on the role chances to experience the story and mold it at their own pace via optional routes to distract the main focus of the plot.

FF13 is not an RPG.

Wait til chapter 11 right? I didnt wait, I rushed....

.....and im sorry, but it just reminds of when I was in gradeschool and the teacher gave us "busy work" while she graded papers. Sure its something to do, but thats all it was, just something to do.

But I do love the game, its great! But, this isnt really an RPG.

I'm loving the amount of CGI/cutscenes so far!

They're my favourite part of the game. >.<

It's all so pretty and truly amazing at how well detailed it all is.

They've never annoyed me in any way. In fact, I wish they had more CGI scenes in previous FF games. >.<

As much as I usually love cutscenes, I have to agree. There are way too many; but all-in-all, the game's worth buying - even with the cutscenes.

For the record, the complaint is not about the existence of CGI or cutscenes in itself. The complaint is about the overhaul of these aspects that the latest games have had. Why some people act like this is one big bashing thread meant to advocate the disclusion of CGI altogether is beyond me. Honestly. Some people would just like to play their games more than they'd like to watch them.

Imo, the FMVs aren't even that numerous in this game. They, primarily, rely on the in-game engine which is absolutely beautiful. XIII's CGI cutscenes aren't nearly as excessive as has been made out, I feel. I actually think of them as a treat for making it however far. They're kinda drip-fed rather than thrown in your face every 10 minutes.

after a shit load of battles and a good amount of exploring, able to watch a couple of minutes of wonderfully animated quality CGI is a treat in my opinion. It moves the story forward and makes the story telling so much fluent and enjoyable, that is partly why i personally loved FFXIII regardless of the reviews.

Right. This game is nothing like 40% cutscenes. Just play it through and there is a point (Which I will not reveal as it is a spoiler) at which the game become a LOT less linear. Just trust me on this one.

Besides I have no problem with a decent amount of CGI in a game. What's wrong with having a bunch of REALLY nice videos to watch as well as a decent gameplay and I story that at least I personally liked. Stop moaning, they've put a good amount of work into this, and it should be accepted and taken as what it is.

Since I started this thread and have had a good few hours of play, I have to say, as I suspected too many cut scenes. It gets better as the game goes along. The beginning was just horrible. I just wanted to play and kept getting interrupted. It's getting better now. I don't mind them as much since they lightened up a bit. Still too many for my taste, but I can live with it. I was expecting worse.
