Has anyone tried to beat Sephiroth without using Omnislash? I've always used that limit break to end the mental battle, but on my current playthrough, I'm feeling a bit impatient with the Battle Square. If I don't need it, I think I'll just go ahead and fight him right now lol.
 
If you don't actually buy Omnislash, it's learned automatically upon the start of the battle. If you don't actually use it, Sephiroth will attack, Cloud will counter. Sephiroth dies, same result as if you hadn't used it.

So no, Omnislash is not necessary for victory.
 
To be honest, I never even thought about not using it D: So, not I've always beaten Sephiroth with omnislash.

As Mitsuru said, you don't need to buy Omnislash to use it in this scripted battle. After a while, the option to use it comes up and you can chose to use it. :neomon: You don't have to have obtained it in the battle square for the option to come up.
 
Well that's good to hear. I might not have to worry about fighting in the battle square nor getting knights of the round lol.
 
If it helps, I don't think it's possible to lose this battle. Sephiroth has 1HP and if Cloud gets attacked, he automatically counters.
 
Im a comlpetionist so i like to go into the northern cave with all my main party havin there lvl 4 limitbreaks so i never worried about this kinda thing, still its interesting to hear other p.o.v.....are you also saying that you dont like the battle sqaur/colosseum?
 
^ same here. I was really tempted to just move on, but I ended up getting Omnislash anyhow lol. As for the Battle Square, it just irritates me sometimes. I hate how I try really hard to get all the worst handicaps (for higher BP) and then they put me up against Ghost Ships who fling me out of the match within the first turn. Sometimes, they reel doesn't even give me an option (i.e.- first reel gives me no accessory, then no items, then no magic, then frog, then I die). Might be a glitch since it's rare, but yesterday I ran into that situation twice.

I know that this is going off topic abit but I seem to get the same thing and if I survive the frog it always and I mean always put's me on mini next, it's like there is no beating it!

Also Omnislash, I have always had it before I go to the Northen Crater so I suppose that is all good! But I heard that you do automaticly learn the move and then overkill Sephiroth
 
I beat him with a counter attack -__-

I wanted to see how much damage he would do me when he hit me, then i countered and he died xD
 
I think his attacks do 1/36th of Cloud's max HP. (Not sure, but i've heard it somewhere)
Not sure about the auto counter thing, never noticed that. :hmmm:
But as others have said, he automatically starts with his Level 4 limit level (Aka Omnislash) charged regardless if you've learned it or of your level/status beforehand.

It's also been proved (via hacking) that he only has 1HP himself.
All in all, you just can't lose. xD
 
I always just run from that battle.

Sephiroth will just die either way, because he gets caught in the destruction of the crater afterwards.
 
you alwaays just run......run..........its the last battle of the game and you run l didnt know it was possible to run from that battle any way you chase the guy to the centre of the freakin planet an you run......run......
 
Like the others have already pointed out,you don't need to get it to use it in the last showdown.I never did at least,always found it a bother but this time I've decided to get it.
It's a great idea that Cloud uses it to finish off Sephiroth and it's equipped automatically in the end.
 
I was honestly disappointed when he attacked. He did maybe 1000 damage. I was even more disappointed when cloud countered for about 1000 damage, and he died. I was hoping for more of a Barret v Dyne or Cloud v Rufus fight. 1v1 with sephiroth? What could have been more epic?

Also, slightly off topic, but is it just me or do the in battle graphics look better in that mock-fight? both spehiroth's and cloud's models are much more detailed than in other fights.
