ORPG Ideas

I prefer fantasy settings, scifi comes second. On the other hand I'm not really a fan of modern settings. So I probably won't join a industrial rpg unless the discription really interests me.

Who/What is Returner's FFRPG system?

...if it includes numerical stats, that's a large 'no'. Namely because there is no fair way to determine how many points an attack subtracts. Thus, using common sense and a realistic fighting style is usually most favorable.

Don't you mean: "NO". The players interested in the game would have to make characters according to the rule set (similar to D&D, GURPS, what have you).

Um, are you saying that a role playing system, which has gone through years of development, will have no "fair" way to determine attack damage?

Are you implying that intangible free-form rp is a fairer way to do combat?

What harm will it be to the forum if an single honest to moogle game
appeared where people had to actually "roll dice"?

Again, there is no FAIR way to do so. Especially not at this time.

I am aware of the GURPS and DnD style of character creation. However, once numeric stats are introduced into the system, you will have certain people who feel they MUST have the largest numbers for their character and claim that this overly-powered character was created by sheer luck. Then again, these are the same dumbasses who feel that they can go ahead and post in an RP whether they were invited to it or not.

Yes, there is the whole dice-roll dealie and whatnot. However, there is no real way (at this time) to make sure that everyone puts down the correct roll that they had come up with. (Not to mention...how many of us actually have d4, d8, or d20 dice?)

Yes yes, GaiaOnline has that whole dice-roll effect that you can put on your posts. However, we do not have that. Nor do I know where we would be able to get the correct coding for such a feature. Although, if you know where the coding can be found, feel free to let us know.

There is that and then ofcourse there is the other side of the story, i play D&D, vampire the masquarade, werewolf the apocalypse, gurps supers, mage demon, AD&D and a few other real life rpgs active or "on standby" and i LIKE the fact that you dont have to mess around with stats and numbers and dice here...
While i agree it can be nice if done correctly, the problem seems to be that the infrastructure to do it correctly doesnt exist at this time. So lets just keep it play by post for now...

ANOTHER IDEA: 2 on 2 rpb... Drachnon and myself have already challanged Vegnya and Lady Eterna which didnt seem to get any response so if someone else feels like their up to it?

Doh! Totally forgot to mention this: http://invisiblecastle.com/index.py

I play Call of Cthulhu (the pen-and-paper rpg) at this website/forum: http://www.callofcthulhu.org.uk/ and we use invisible castle's dice rolling feature and its worked out great. Besides, FFRPG has stat allocation for character creation, so you aren't going to run into any power gaming problems (the math is easy to double-check anyway). But, if a player wants to cheat, then they'll find a way to cheat. I've been and run several games where there is at least one player is pre-rolling his dice or some other immature thing, it happens.

Oh and I usually don't invite meta-gamers to play in my games anyway, and if they do sneak in, its the other players they've got to deal with.

The idea is to play by post... >_<

Brainstorm!

I'm thinking of creating a Redwall URPG, based on the storyline of the book.

For those who are unaware of what Redwall is, it is a book where most animals are anthropomorphic (given certain physical traits of a human i.e. hands with opposable thumbs, walking upright, etc.). Redwall, a great big monastery, is under constant siege from several invaders.

The RP itself is going to be set after the defeat of Cluny the Scourge and before the events of Mattimeo (the book regarding Matthias, Redwall's main protagonist, son).

What do you think? There will be more info on it in the URPG Discussion thread, but I thnk it's a good idea!

Sounds a bit like Kibibitz's Animal Kingdom RP...but...not.

Ooh! Ooh! Mark just inspired an interesting thought...

FFF Soap Opera!

Hopefully, this won't turn out like the FFVII Soap Opera did. x_x Soap Operas are supposed to be story-based, not battle based, you warmongers!

Buuuuut yeah. The more active members could come and post as themselves, creating overly-dramatic situations for some of our usual things or current issues. Like the changing ownership, the ShenxRydiaxMitsuki 'love' triangle, Mark's gender confusion...the list goes on.

Lol, this sounds like fun. Oooh the drama! I'll try and be active if the idea pulls through.

That sounds a bit, shall we say intresting, everyone over actng some drama.

Just...please don't tell me we have to create bios. I suck at those.

What would I be, the murderer? =\
Meh. Sounds fun, but I'm not exactly good with drama D=

Different systems' fans often create a lot of conflicts over their favourite things especially when they edge on each other's familiar territories, it should be seen as good that both can inspire such passion in their adherants.

lol

You're a little late, Tyciol. That message was posted like, five months ago :monster:

But would anybody here have an idea for new RPs? We have a fair few active ones, but that doesn't mean we can't use more :neomon:

I'm a little late, too, I see. Anyway. :)

Why, I would be absolutely delighted to start a new RP. Right now I have two settings all worked out, both of which have quite a few pages of background and setting description.

The only problem is that these settings are both already in use, one on another forum, and the other I'm writing on with a friend in a one-on-one basis.

One of them is set in a post-apocalyptic-esque world, while the other takes place in a world in which magic, industry and genetic manipulation coexist. The most important similarity between these two settings is that swords as well as guns can be used, and I have tried to make the use of both kinds of weapons more or less balanced so people wouldn't end up ALL taking guns just so they would 'pwn'. My efforts to do so came, of course, from Final Fantasy, in which, might I add, no satisfying balance between mêlée weapons and guns exist. It is apparantly just a given. ;)

I would be quite willing to make up a new world or setting, or use a version of those I already have if anyone is interested. Please note, however, that it would take some time for me to change the second one (as I'm writing on that one quite seriously with a friend and it wouldn't be appreciated if I went around using that setting everywhere! :P ) into something similar but different. The first one (post-apocalyptic-esque) is more or less ready to go and requires next to no changes at all, except perhaps a general goal instead of the open 'find-it-out-yourself'-world it currently is. :P

Anyway, let me know. :)

I've got a few ideas based on darren shan books, either vampires or demons to put it simply, not sure if its already been sugested but if people showed an interest i'd be happy to think of something, also i would like an RP with swords, guns and magic, i think it would be a great idea

Guys, are there any RPs related to sci-fi and tech based stories? I'm not too keen on magic ^^;
