The whole project cost me about $1500, progressively. I ended up buying peripherals + accessories way after I built the PC after a year. I do plan on upgrading to an i7, sooner or later, and buying myself a GTX 1070.

The one thing here that isn't quite accurate is the wireless adapter. I couldn't find a PCI wireless adapter that had everything I wanted for a reasonable price, so instead I ordered the parts from China and assembled a custom one myself :P

I paid $369 for it, moments before the pandemic kicked off. So I feel like an absolute genius. I haven't had any problems with it. I like AMD because you generally get better price to performance than Intel/NVidia. The 5700XT is notorious for having a hotspot/junction temp over 100C. Mine definitely does, and the fix seems to be to undervolt it a little. AMD says it's in spec somehow and 2yrs in, I've not had a problem.

Some things I've noticed lately, as far as new products go, the traditional roles of the competitors seemed to have reversed. Intel and NVidia still hold the majority of the market, but the innovation seems to be trending toward AMD. It used to be that AMD sort of brute-forced their way to some raw numbers. Now Intel is the one with high core counts, double and triple wattage that somehow only slightly edge AMD for a few hundred more dollars. Intel is also supposedly releasing GPUs, but always seemingly in the future. There's sure to be problems in early generations, regardless.

Even Nvidia is having to make late special releases to respond to AMDs cards, just to maintain the top spot. Again at obscene costs and power draws. Although, I would say there is less of a gap appearing in the GPU space. The biggest issue with NVidia right now is availability. Even though costs are going down, they're going down much quicker for AMD. One area where NVidia seems to be safe is Ray Tracing. Even the best AMD cards aren't great at ray tracing, although whether it matters is another question.

Something to consider if you're thinking about moving to AMD: The AM4 socket that holds the Ryzen processors is at end of life. Those motherboards don't have DDR5 RAM. So if you want something a little more future-proof, AMD isn't going to be ready until the AM5 release, and even then there's sure to be teething problems.

Just built this one for my parents. Super overkill. A lot of it was old parts I had leftover from my old builds. With the newer parts, I made sure to buy brands I've not worked with before, just to get a feel for them. The case's quality isn't as good as mine, but it was also 1/3 the price. It did come with 2 140mm RGB fans but no rear exhaust. The FSP power supply was really chonky, but I wasn't a fan of the included cables.

I'm going to upload photos of this one and all the changes I've made to mine soon.
