With more games having more and more digital copies I was wondering what people prefer... Do you still want a physical disk or cartridge, or do you like the digital copies of games?

I prefer physical copies... There's something nice about being able to display your favourite games on the shelf! :lew: I'm very proud of my FF collection. :wacky:

Having said that, digital copies would reduce waste. :hmm:

I suppose in an ideal world, I'd be able to buy physical copies of my absolute favourites but could download digital copies of those games that feel less important.

They'd have to up the speed of the internet in rural areas first. We're lucky enough when the internet's running at a speed of 2MB; I believe it tends to run at less than 1MB. -_- Consequently, downloading takes a little time. ;)

Depends on the game. Typically if it is part of a series I would prefer a physical copy so I can display it with the rest of the series and feel special about myself. However I have downloaded a few games off steam and it really doesn't bother me that I don't have a physical copy.

Generally if I actually like the game I prefer to own a physical copy. Where as if it's more of a throwaway game/game that I am mildly interested in, I have no problem with getting a digital copy.

I usually prefer physical copies for a few reasons. While I'm proud of my large Steam library, if anything happened to my account, and it couldn't be recovered, I'd be pretty much screwed. Most games are being attached to accounts, though, and the disc is almost useless in some cases (at least for PC Games). If it were a game like the Witcher 2 that weren't attached to an account, then it's good. Or console games. I like physical games because I can play them on anything and they're not attached to any sort of account. Plus the game cases look good in a collection :griin:

I like physical copies, I like having them fill up my shelf and i hate having games sitting on my console hard drive wasting space there when it could be used for other things. If it's a small game I don't mind it being on my hard drive though.

The digital copies are way more convenient, and easier to get... but I much would rather have the physical copy of the game. Although it's easier to get damaged, it just holds more value and significance to me than a digital copy of the game. Also, it's easier to share with your friends/family. Unless they come over frequently to play on your account but still that's a hassle if you ask me.

I purchase games based primarily on price point. Whichever format is cheapest is the one I will support, but I will generally opt for digital due to convenience. I appreciate the ease with which I can purchase, store and share games with my Steam account, for example.

I like having both (yes I'm a greedy pig). Whereas I certainly cannot always afford to have both versions of a game, I would still buy a physical and digital copy where possible or convenient (this is why I don't have a large game library at the moment :lew:). I enjoy the convenience of the digital copy but I'm a collector at heart so I like to "catch 'em all". It's all relative to the consoles I own though. Although, there can be a bit more of a worry with the digital versions of games, since it is much easier to lose them than your physical game library, so it's always good to have a back-up plan.

Will always prefer physical copies, partially because I like to show off things that I've purchased, which can't be done with digital content. (though I did try to keep a paper record of digital games I got, but that got full pretty fast.) It's a pity that not all games have physical copies, and so because of this and of course lack of free hdd space, I've started to only buy digital games if you can't get them on disk. Sure, the immediate delivery of games when you buy digital is alluring, but I'll be venturing to buy physical copies first if I can.

I'm half and half. I usually buy physical unless the game is absolutely positively hard to find physical. Only in that case will I buy digital. It's the only reason I still have access to Fire Emblem Awakening, as the game was not in my area physical and I could not wait for it to be available. :mokken:

depends what it is, the majority of our films are digital, sold/gave the rest away. same with music, saves on clutter. For games, I do prefer the physical copy, but I'd say I have about 50% downloaded

physical

you don't actually buy a digital copy of a game, just the license to access it. if say, you are ever frauded and Sony wants to fuck you over like they did me, your PlayStation Network account would be banned until you pay off a negative balance and you could not play any of your games that you needed to renew a license for.

digital purchases are just bollocks because you don't own anything that you are buying and on top of that they are more expensive which is just mind boggling when you weigh corporate greed and this enormous con to just owning what you buy

only buy digital if digital is the only platform something comes in, all the way

When it's within the same price range, I'll take physical any day. Only should digital be significantly cheaper will I get digital.
