While FFX isn't my favourite game in the series, I must say that I thoroughly enjoy playing it whenever I get the chance. It was the first in the series (in my opinion) to have a more jovial and positive outlook, especially in the main character. My first FF was 7 and while I love Cloud, he had some serious screws loose and a boatload of problems. Emo-ish, pessimistic Squall in 8 wasnt much better. I kind of liked Zidane, but I never really got into 9 the way I have all the others. Tidus was just so funny throughout the whole game and while he did start getting serious (especially when he found out about Yuna's fate as a summoner) he always kept such an optimistic outlook.

The game had so many funny moments and I really liked Blitzball being the mini-game. I also liked that they could talk (though I enjoyed the japanese voices much more than the English ones). Anyway, i'm just trying to say that Final Fantasy X (in my opinion) is the most fun and lighthearted game out of the series (and so many bright colors! lol). I'm watching a walkthrough right now on youtube, eating popcorn like its a movie ^_^

FFX isn't a bad game, but i think it isn't sufficient to make me happy.
When i play ffx and see Tidus i just say "Gay" (no discrimination)
I like blitzball too, and i think it's an interesting thing in the game.

I´m agree with you, Aoisora. Spira is the most "vitalistic" setting in all the PS FFs, and Tidus is the most optimistic and funny protagonist. In fact, the atmosphere in general is lighter and happier than other games.

But the weird thing is that the storyline is not happy at all.

Well, that's the irony isn't it... Tidus is such a carefree and happy-go-lucky fellow with his infectious humor but the storyline on an overall basis is quite depressing and dark...

Which is why FFX had to end in such a sad manner, bringing tears to so many fellow gamers!

Final Fantasy X is a pretty solid game...but that isn't due to Tidus. His whinny voice became irritating after the first fifteen minutes of gametime, but it was good to have a lead character with a different personality.

I don't believe Tidus is at all funny, though. Not sure where that's coming from. Difference in sense of humor, I guess.

I didn't really find him all that funny either, I think I got to used to morbid main characters like Squall and Cloud, Tidus was abit of a shock to the system :wacky:

Although I do generaly like the general feel to the game, it's just so bright and pretty, I thouroughly enjoy playing it. It's great fun I love it even thought it is really quite sad really ;_;

I wouldn't say Tidus was very funny. But the relationships between the characters and the dialogue is very light. Most people like Tidus and throughout FFX we see that he is enjoying himself.
The fact that we like him and see him having fun is why it makes people smile,

I agree with Placebo, but still I liked the game it was pretty good and I liked Blitzball but I never managed to get those unique shots and stuff things D:

I love playing this game, because I know there's so much to do in it. Shame the dialogue and story sometimes kinda makes me twinge from time to time.

Yup also alot of ''subquestst''

Mod Edit: Please add a bit more effort to your post. (Specify in details what you like about the sidequests, etc.) Thanks.

Yeah the game is pretty different from other FF's come to think of it. Not just Tidus but other characters bring a lighter mood to the game, and there are more relations between characters etc. Its good also how the ending just gets you.....I mean I completed this game for the first time on my birthday.....I cried on my birthday for god sake!

FFX wasa really fun game for me, because of how much lighter it was then the other FF's, the dialogue, and the characters, THE one thing bad about it was the ending, I seriously thought that was gay (non discriminitave) how Tidus was you know "fake".

When i play ffx and see Tidus i just say "Gay" (no discrimination)

But I must say, I am enjoying my current playthrough. It has such a vibrant aura about it. And I've finally come to appreciate blitzball. Plus this might have been the first FF to show emotion, which more games need to utilize. Overall, FFX might just be my new favorite in the series.

Oh how much I love this game! I love the interaction between the characters, the love between Tidus and Yuna which is so clearly expressed as time goes on. I love Tidus's strong, optimistic personality, and how he continues to strive and move forward even after he discovers Yuna's fate.

I feel that Tidus is more human to me than any of those quiet, dark characters before like Cloud and Squall (no offense to them!). Tidus wasn't afraid to express his emotions, and that's what I loved about him. He wasn't afraid to laugh if he found something funny, wasn't afraid to smile to continue to give Yuna confidence when she needed it, wasn't afraid to express his anger or even cry when he needed to.

He was so positive about everything, even though he didn't know a thing about Spira or understood it's cultures. While his voice did get annoying at times, you learn to get past it and enjoy the game for what it is. I love playing this game and I love the beautiful atmosphere that Spira gives off. It's a gorgeous world, so bright and colorful and fun to explore. It's truly a pity the game had to end in such tragedy, but I think that is one of the things that made such a brilliant impact on the gamer. Definitely one of my most favorite video games of all time without a shadow of a doubt.

FFX has a great storyline and had quite an unusual sad ending, not counting FFX-2 though, since the sequel pretty much screwed a good game. Yes, Tidus was somewhat annoying, mostly because we got used to morbid characters such as Squall and Cloud.

Squall was alone during most of his childhood, never met his mother, and thought that the best way to handle things was by all by himself. He rarely laughed, he preferred to hide his emotions, and was always focused on his goals. He is awful with dates, and quite much he told to Rinoa to GTFO in most of the first and second disc, but suddenly, OMG he fell in love. Well yes, this sometimes happens in real life; boy ignores girl, girl insists, boy tells girl to GTFO, girl keeps insisting, boy develops a strong feeling towards girl, boy realized he LOVED that girl. That also pretty sums up Squall's and Rinoa's relationship.

Now with Cloud. Cloud reminded me (a bit) to Tidus during the first parts of Crisis Core. Yes, he was (to my understanding) more cheerful before he
got all screwed by the experiments Hojo performed on both him and Zack
. After that, Cloud became the silent swordsman we all know; always hiding what he felt, what he thought, blaming himself for everything, in summary, somewhat close to what we call a "depressed shell". Of course, he managed to overcome most of his issues and learned how to forgive himself.

Now in FFX all that was set aside. Tidus is nowhere near to what either Squall or Cloud are, since Tidus is their complete opposite.

The first time i played ffx n got a new aeon i got so excited but when i couldnt beat yunalesca i stopped playing n knew i would never get yojimbo maganus sisters or animia but i started again a while later and i beat it in 2 weeks n had animia yojimbo and the maganus sisters.
But this game has its ups and downs just sometimes when u were walkin around and u got into a battel with the glass breakin was ok at first but then it got really anoying.
The best thing about this game would probly have to b the story line its probly the only love story i have actoully injoied :p

Tidus is funny because he's almost a parody of a lot of Final Fantasy fans' fanfiction: Joe Normal falls into a FF world and has to learn the ropes from scratch. I thought that was a brilliant way to explain why your character is low-level and doesn't know anything. He's funny because he's NOT a trained mercenary, NOT a hero, just some good-hearted dumb jock, one of those kids who's popular in high school and always seems to be the life of the party...

...suddenly thrust into a very different sort of party, where he's the fool. He does pretty well, considering! Also, since he's not a trained fighter, just Joe Ordinary, I don't mind him venting now and then. Auron says dramatic things like, "You shall pay for his death!" Tidus breaks the epic tone with frank and all-too-true assessments like, "Seymour, you're totally nuts."

Unfortunately the voice actors for the American dub aren't that great, and Tidus is one of the characters where it shows most. (Elma being another. Oh my GOSH she is better in the original.)

Final Fantasy makes me smile because it plays on old archetypes, on mythology, on epic themes out of Homer and (I assume; I haven't studied eastern cultures enough) old Japan. There's a magic and depth to it-- consistency to it, which is one reason X-2 falls so flat-- right down to the art and weaving styles that makes it feel like a lived-in world. Spira's landscapes are beautiful, even when dark and strange. It's a feast for the senses and the part of the mind given to dreams and myth.

I love the way FFX rings changes on the relationship between dreams, sleep and death found in so many world mythologies. That aspect could have been morbid. In fact, the tragic side of FFX emphasizes hope, life. Auron's incredible will to keep going, to make sure his friends' deaths aren't futile, makes him seem profoundly alive. The people of Spira are mostly not depressing emo folks who sit around going, "woe is me, I have lost all my family members to Sin and could die tomorrow." They're folks like Wakka or silly Shelinda, who try their best to make a difference, even if it's only laughing off sorrow and starting another game of blitzball they probably won't win. They're the weavers of Besaid, the priests of Macalania Temple holding an impromptu celebration feast, the folk of Kilika picking up the pieces after a Sin attack -- by the next day, Kulukan's Pub is open for business, and she's providing crash space for traumatized sailors or Crusaders, whoever need it. They're the people of Besaid refusing to turn Yuna in to the authorities.

Yet the world isn't utopian either; it's got a crisis in its dominant religion, corrupt politicians, racism, and other cultures with different values.

There's holes in the world, plot, characters if you look closely, just like Star Wars, but there's enough that the more you explore FFX, the more you get out of it.

For me, the gameplay is secondary to the story, world, and characters.

I like Spira, the way some people like Middle-earth. Replaying FFX feels like coming home. Once in a great while I turn off the lights, light some candles, crank up the subwoofer and stereo speakers, have a glass of plum wine and settle in for an evening's escapism in an imaginary world that's worth fighting for.
