So this is just for my clarification and possibly for other newcomers to the FF series, i have bought every FF for 7 upwards, except for 9 but im working on it, now is there a point of no return in every game, i mean i want to get 100% in all the games although it will take me a while with work it is like a project of mine, but nehow, is there a save point that once you go further you cant go back? How do you go about getting all the Ultimate weps and what not?

Does it differ on each game or is it the same rule for all, can you always just **Go Back** ?? Should i just play through them the first time and then go back through doing all the side quests/extra's ? what you reckon?

Thanks in advanced.

If my memory serves me correctly, on VII, there is really no place you can't go back to. Even at the Crater, there is a way to go back, which took me awhile to figure out, but its possible. I didn't make it very far on VIII, so I have no idea about that. IX is the same as VII, you can return to most places, but maybe I'm not one to know this stuff.

I'm sure someone that has more intellegence of FF will tell you.

There's nowhere you can't go back to in FFX (other than Zanarkand in its prime, where you start at the very beginning; and there's nothing there to worry about) though you can only really backtrack near the very end, and you'll probably have to look up online to get the routes to certain locations.

For FF12, you also have full backtracking. It's a very free environment.

For FF13, you can only backtrack during the last 3 chapters, and only to the last 3 areas. But you'd only be missing out on treasure, really, since all the sidequests (which are all hunts) are at the end.

As it goes without saying, embarking to fight the final boss will stop any backtracking in all of these cases. You can go back after fightig the boss in FF13, but for 10 and 12, if memory serves, keep a save ready and untouched beforehand.

None of the games have new game+ so this isn't a problem. It doesn't let you save right before or after the final boss, so all you have to do is load up your save and leave the final dungeon. There are a few places in some of the games I don't think you can go back to, but I can't remember which. You really don't need to 100% the games. And to 100% Final Fantasy IX, you need two save files: 1 to enjoy the game and take your time, and a second to speed through the entirety of the game in under 12 hours to get Excalibur II (something I have yet to attempt).

Thank you, aslong as there is always a way to get everything then it doesnt really matter how far back i get to go, i just dont want to miss anything :D

Well there really isn't much to "miss" unless you want one of every weapon or to get every (sometimes) useless item ;_; Trust me, you'll rage trying to get Lulu and Tidus' celestial weapons in FFX. That chocobo racing is evil, and so is dodging lightning bolts.

yeh just went past the lightning part, not looking forward to dogin a 100, i alway get caught after a battle. But i will go back when i get the *No battle item* thing

Well you don't have to move around to dodge the lightning so enemy encounters aren't really a problem. And I think it's 300 lightning bolts. But either way once you've left an area in FFX, you can't go back until you have the airship.

The thread title reminds me of Phantom of the Opera :awesome:

FF6 you can return. You just backtrack and there's a flying hook thingy that you can grab and go back to the airship. Just wait a couple of minutes for the hook to appear and your main character will fly back to the airship and the world map.

FF7 you can return. It takes about 20 minutes. Though I've done it heaps of times, because I like fighting Sephiroth and Chocobo racing for fun.
:britt:

FF8 you can return. Though on CD4 all of the worlds are closed, so always make sure to have a spare save slot on at the end of CD3 if you want to explore cities and towns. On CD4 you can go places by portals, but you can't go inside places, which sucks butt.:jtc:

FF9 you can return. Just backtrack and there will be a teleport outside the castle which will transport you back to the airship. Though I think that from memory everything is in mist, so it kind of sucks. I like to explore the world in clear fresh air dammit !

FF10 you can return, and go back on the airship. It takes a while, and you might get a little lost though.

FF12 and FF13 I have no idea. I didn't like them enough to get that far. Hope this helps !

For FFXII you just choose not to go to the Bahamut and you can't save on it anyways. Then your save loads back at wherever you were before you chose to take the Strahl up there (this game has a fucking awesome ending and I highly recommend playing through it).

There are some places in XII where there are "no return" points, but it's not a "never return" point if you get what i mean. Like, at that certain point in the story, you cannot return to the field and go do whatever you want, you're stuck in that area and you got to finish whatever the quest is before you can go back to the open field.

I don't think there are any permanent "no return" points in any of the FF games as of yet :/

I hated that one in the Draklor Laboratory -__- I got stuck on Doctor Cid for a few months until I finally managed to get some of the remaining enemies rallied up to earn some experience. There's like 2 or 3 other places like that in the game. And you can't go back to them afterwards, like on the ship that you fight Judge Ghis (the Shiva I think?).

There's the palace basement, the Mines after you get captured and imprisoned, Draklor laboratory, The Shiva (Airship) and The Bahamut. That's off of memory though, there could be more.

Actually you can not backtrack to Bevelle city either. You can backtrack to Bevelle, but you can not go into the city. It is blocked by Maroda :)

There are many and varied ending situations in the FF series, if you want a more detailed explanantion of stuff you can find such as Ultimate weapons and Summons dont hesitate to ask.

We have a collective of epic proportion detailing the vastness of FF, good luck with your "project" :lew:

FFVIII is very restrictive in the areas you can go back to on disc 4, and FFIX has a similar problem with story areas being restricted by the roots of Iifa tree all the dang place.

The great thing about FFVII is the freedom you have and the areas you can explore ie; the Submarine, di you know you can a red one instead of the blue one? true story :ryan:

Well if you want 100% everything
FFVII you can get everything for the most part by back tracking just.. if you want to actually use Aeriths Final Limit break...
you have to get it/ get her to limit level 3-2 before she leaves your party for good
Just remember that

FFVIII again Can get everything and go back everywhere you have been before.

FFIX Once again you can go back everywhere...problem is, if you want 100% everything... you have to get to a certain point in 20 hours i think to get Excalibur II

FF X - XIII these games I think you can go back everywhere you been and get everything, just one thing about FFXII... there are 5 chest you need to NOT GET if you want the final weapon in the game.

Everything is so complicated, i will get this gunna take two games at a time instead of diving in, FXIII And ither FVII or FVIII, thank you fr all the advice!

I know it's possible to leave the final dungeon in FFIX. Though if you do, you'd have to go through all the various areas of the dungeon again and fight more monsters, which isn't my style. I prefer to do everything before I go to the final dungeon now. Also, I think there are like 2 or 5 places that you can't go back to :( . With FFXII though, I'm almost certain you can go back anywhere in the world. No matter what. Which is hella cool.
