Nintendo Pokémon Black and White

Had a long rant with Mark about this last night :wacky:

I really don't like the look of any of em. None of them have a huge wow factor for me, and especially the last group of ten, possible legendaries, event legendaries or whatever, they all just kinda look the same with a slight variation... there's isn't a distinction or uniqueness like with the bird or dog trio..

Yeah, the dog trio (probably not officially called the legendary dog trio, but still. xP) is awesome, but Entei still isn't quite so good imo, I like Suicune and Raikou better than the Fire type of the trio.

But whoa, 649 Pokémon is quite a lot, so that means the 5th generation has 156 new Pokémon, and I don't think all of them look awful, so I'll come to accept that still the mass majority isn't that great, but there is some good in there. :monster:

The trio per every Gen has been fairly memorable, with 1 and 2 being obvious... 4 was alright and 3.. feh. Just looking at that list though, I can't even pick out the supposed trio..

Also, the monkeys? Really? 6 of them? Were they necessary?

Yeah, I don't even like monkeys, I hate that 6 of the new Pokémon are those friggin' monkeys, seems like they were really running out of ideas and filled in with half a dozen monkeys to make it 156 new Pokémon instead of just 150. <_<

There's the full list. They look like digimon. If the franchise keeps going like this it might be time to stick a fork in it. :ffs:

Either that or wait a few years and release a higher quality game. The games still use MIDI cries ffs.

..Is that first pokemon on the list supposed to be a Pikachu-esque fourth pick?

Victini is the legendary, similar to Mew, Celebi, what have you. There's gonna be events an shit, it's just rumoured to be numer 000 in the over all Dex, and ergo first in the Ishu dex.

The monkeys were a waste of space. =/ Three, sure.. but evolutions? Why? Just... ergh.

Also upon closer inspection the legendary trio appear to be the bottom three that all have Justice Heart as an ability (cba typing Japanese names) An Elk, a Deer, and what can only be assumed as hairless buffalo?

Harle I already posted the link xD and Ya I am going to have to agree here. The pokemon of the 5th generation arent great. I laughed so much at some of em. Oh and fucking genies for legends? They went too far. I will adit that some are cool though. But some are abominations. The first pokemon is Victini which number zero on the isshu dex. It is the new mew/celebi/jirachi/manaphy

edit: the first trio are based on the three Musketeers apparently

Honestly, this entire generation is a pile of utter shit. Even the fourth generation had better designs than this. They've quite clearly run out of ideas, what with all these bloody monkeys running around, and yet another annoyingly large pile of Legendaries. What happened to the good old days when a trio and a couple of all-powerful Legendaries were enough?

From the base stats, I can see that they've made absolutely no effort to balance the game out, either. Competetive battling was completely trashed with the 4th generation, and it looks like the 5th will continue with this.

I highly doubt I will buy these games. I've got better things to spend my money on.

Martel how the hell does that fish Mamanbou have 165 HP as its base stat. That is more than Slaking :hmmm: Also Martel I highly agree with you. The legends are really bad and some of the regular pokemon are. The only normal legends are Reshiram and Zekrom tbh.

The Ice cream cones and the gears are fucking terrible.

Like the upcoming Disgaea 4 next year? :awesome: But that's a different story, this is for Pokémon chat... xP I'm not sure whether to consider myself disappointed or satisfied, I knew all along there would be a ton of new ones I wouldn't give a crap about, but still, it is sad they can't just come up with a few more decent designs...c'mon Game Freak, sheesh. >.>

I think the new designs are fresh. It's kinda like a different univwerse for pokemon and I'm looking at this like it's a different game rather than having it lumped in with the origionals. As a different game altogether, I like some of the pokemon produced. However I can still see lack of origionality in some of the pokemon designs. I think this game should be kinda like another universe of pokemon or something because that many pokemon can't possibly exist in one...Plus this games supposedly different from the rest so here's hoping! ^_^

The ice cream Pokémon are totally the last straw for me. Yes, ice cream. I see ice cream Pokémon. What the heck was the art team on when it drew up this freakshow? :gonk:

They seriously need fresh blood in the art team. They've become so uninspired that they're resorting to making Pokémon out of random inanimate objects like gears (Digimon beat you to it long ago, Gamefreak) and the aforementioned ice creams. The one big saving grace for Black and White would be the quality of the game itself, which I'm sure will still be decent.

Surprising. I honestly didn't think the designs would be as bad as they've turned out to be.

Still, there are redeeming features to the new series that counterbalance the ugliness of the new cretins inhabiting it. For me, at least. I'll still end up buying this and trying it out; chances are I'll enjoy it all the same, even without any aesthetically pleasing Pokémon. I see no point in judging this particular book by its cover, and jumping on the bandwagon of its immediate dismissal.

Disappointing turnout all the same. =/

What did it for me was the candles... An evolution of candles? Really? And wtf is that pink thing that stands on it's own? Tabunne..

And that weird little green germ thing that lives in it's own primordial ooze... I hardly see an evolution there, especially between the first two. It probably could have been a stand alone Pokemon at its third evo.

Well this is the first time I've looked at the new Pokemon, including the first 3 you can choose from, but they seem... well, shit.

Generally when I look at a Pokemon I think 'hey that's a ...' (eg. if it's Charmander i'd think that it's some lizard). But some of these, I don't know what they based the design on.

I do like the look of some of them, for example I like the look of Shubarugo (though it looks like it came out of a Kirby game), Wargle and a few others, but most of them either look like
a) very lazy designs (seriously... GEAR? is that the best you can come up with Nintendo?)
or
b) like a cartoon alien character you'd find on the back of a newspaper (I doubt I'll ever use Zuruzukin ever... it looks terrible)...

I see they're just reusing ideas too. So there's a tadpole that evolves into.. some sort of frog (wtf is Gamagaru...) which evolves in a bulky Frog. Hang on, where have I heard this before?

Overall I'm very disappointed with the designs. I always picked the water type in every Pokemon I've played, but thanks to Futachimaru, I don't think I'd want something like that as my partner, if I ever buy this that is.

I agree. When I saw the ice cream pokemon I was like "WTF?". that has got to be the lowest of the low XD I'm still willing to give this game a chance...and if push comes to shove I'll just import my old pokemon :3

Some of the pokemon Are great. Like the ghost/fire Chandelier :jess: I thought that one was pretty awesome. They also lost inspiration that they cloned a new bear. It is obviously cloned off of Ursaring. They pretty much look the same thing but brown and white. The last thing I wanted to see were genies in pokemon. I mean honestly they were not very creative in that category.

But yes The Ice cream pokemon are really really terrible. To be honest I am tired of the lack of inspiration. This is just another oh lets put the same pokemon together thing. Example: Magneton, and those stupid gears. Terrible ideas. The new legendary dogs are not too shabby but still I expected more.. The 3rd dragon which is such a cool type isnt that great. It is known as the frozen chicken. But Olivia you didnt mention the pokeball mushrooms :gasp: Those are BAD! The woman/man pokemon doesnt excite me at all. Orly now a legend that can transform into a male/female at will :hmmm:

I also feel they rushed the starters. The final answer is that pokemon will most likely die if they keep making dogs, same pokemon in one(Magneton) I really think this is the final generation.

Oh just a little nitpicky point, gears aren't inanimate objects when active, they move. Like Ice Cream on a sunny day (melts then runs outside of the cone and all over you in a vengeful fury. :gasp:). xD

Well, if they are going to keep doing dogs, why the hell don't they do some actual, true Wolf Pokémon already!? :rage:

Ehh..I can't say that I can agree with this. It's a very trivial thing and I really don't think that unoriginal and weird designs alone can lead to the complete downfall of the Pokémon franchise at all. It's a huge name and it has been consistently popular around the world for the last 14-15 years.

The games still sell incredibly well, The anime I imagine is going as strongly as ever, with new movies still in production. And don't forget the countless other forms of Pokémon media and merchandise. I can't see it collapsing any time soon from designs alone. Nintendo and Gamefreak will have to do something decisively unpopular and ridiculous - something cataclysmic enough - to put Pokémon on life support.

Oh just a little nitpicky point, gears aren't inanimate objects when active, they move.

Not really. Inanimate objects are typically objects that are nonliving.

Okay, if by inanimate you mean they don't breathe, then yeah, they are indeed inanimate. <.<

But anyway, I'm still bugged there still isn't a "Wolf Pokémon"...I feel like I could punch something. :ffs: If they have a 6th Generation, they better get their act together. :mokken:
