Mods, please lock/move if this has been done before, this is in the wrong place, or if this isn't a good idea.

Before I begin, I will provide some back story.

Out of curiosity, I began to wonder... At the end of Gold/Silver (Or HeartGold/SoulSilver, whichever you prefer), whatever happened to Red at the top of Mt. Silver?

Allow me to elaborate, it was heavily implied that Red must have been up there for years. Years without any contact outside of Mt. Silver, not even a call to Blue, Professor Oak, or to his mom.

How are we so sure why Red is up in Mt. Silver to begin with, and what happened while he was there?

While I was browsing on Google for answers, I came across this creepypasta:

Mt. Silver, a place with some of the strongest Pokemon you can capture, only open to trainers of admirable skill. Professor Oak, as you know, will allow you to travel here once you beat the Elite Four. Because he sees how well you battle, how well you treat your Pokemon, he allows you to travel to Mt. Silver to take on its challenges. But is this truly the only reason? Surely there are other trainers than you that are deserving of this reward, right? So, why you, of all trainers? Why are you so special?
Because you are the only one who can set him free. Other than the Pokemon Center that is located there, there are virtually no other people. There is one, though. Located at the tippy-top of Mt. Silver, alone. You should know him well. You were him once, after all.
Red.
Red is a former ‘apprentice’ of Professor Oak, receiving his pokedex many years before you start your journey. After his travels, he, like you now, gained access to Mt. Silver. After training here, he climbed to the top of Mt. Silver…and isolated himself from the rest of the world, training in solitude, losing contact with anyone and everyone who he considered worthwhile.
He didn’t call his mother, Professor Oak, or even his rival, Blue. None of them had any clue what had happened to the boy; any calls they sent were rejected or ignored. After awhile, they stopped calling. But Professor Oak, curious as to what had happened to the boy, climbed up to Mt. Silver, reaching its peak. It had been well over a few years since he had lost contact with Red.
What he saw sent a wave of terror down his body.
He saw Red, or rather, Red’s lifeless body, in a corner of the chamber. When Professor Oak checked, it was cold. He’d been dead for awhile now. He shuddered; why had it suddenly become so cold in the room…? He turned around, jumping backwards in surprise.
He saw Red, sitting on a rock across the room, staring at him with a blank expression. His amber eyes were dull, and red lines had formed under his eyes. He had been crying. With this, the Oak turned to the body, to Red, to the body, to Red. How…how could they both be Red? Red continued to stare at him, and Oak could only stare back in shock and terror. He watched as Red removed something from around his waist, and Oak recognized it as a pokeball. It looked aged, though, cracked in places. Red, ever so silent, mouthed two words to to the professor as he gestured toward the pokeball.
“Help me.”
The professor backed away a little, but stopped as he saw Red was not going to react to anything he did. “How…” the professor stammered. “How can I help you…Red?” Once again, Red gestured toward the pokeball, and Oak finally understood. “I’ll…I’ll do everything I can for you, Red.” Red smiled at him, silently fading until the professor could no longer see him.
Over the next several years, the professor constantly searched for a trainer, one worthy of helping the poor spirit of Red. But, no matter how hard he searched…no one, not one trainer, could do the deed. Anyone who did dare to climb Mt. Silver fled at the sight of Red’s spirit. The professor was getting desperate and, in one last attempt, he consulted Lance of the Elite Four for help. Lance himself couldn’t help, but he and Oak decided this:
Before any trainer could be allowed entrance to Mt. Silver, they must prove themselves worthy by defeating the Elite Four. This became the rule, and so, they waited for the trainer that would be the one. For a long time, this trainer did not come, and they had begun to lose hope…
Until, that is, you came along. During his time in Johto, the professor visited a childhood friend of his, Mr. Pokemon, who had offered to help the professor with his dilemma. When you met Professor Oak, he saw the potential in you as a trainer…and offered you the pokedex.
He kept track of you, of your growth as a person and a trainer, up until your final battle in the Elite Four, where you proved your worth as a trainer. Because of this, the professor gave you access to Mt. Silver, hoping you to be the one that could finally free Red. He didn’t explain to you the plan, only hoping that you could handle it on your own.
When you finally make your way to the top of Mt. Silver, Red, as he normally would, is isolated on Mt. Silver. He is honestly surprised when he sees you, for he has not had any challengers in a long time. You walk up to him without fear, and, wordlessly, he challenges you to a battle. You accept, and the two of you engage in a battle powerful enough to shake the heavens.
When the deed is done and you have won the battle, Red does not speak. He wordlessly returns his last Pokemon. Afterwards, he is there for a brief instant, before disappearing from your view, and he is no longer there. When you look, the body is gone as well. You stare at the place where he disappeared and, though you couldn’t be sure, you thought you had seen a faint smile forming on Red’s face upon his defeat. Red had one last unspoken reply for you, his savior, who had freed him from the world at last.
“Thank you.”

I'm aware that it is nothing more than a story meant to creep you out a bit, and that's how I regarded it at first.

But then I began to think more and more about how much sense this theory makes.

After you defeat Red, why does he dissapear rather than walk away like the other trainers?

How on Earth was Red able to survive so long on Mt. Silver?

Now now, before you have a go at me for this, let me explain my views:

I refuse to believe that Red in the game is truly "dead", as the theory above states. However, even though there is a Pokemon Center near Mt. Silver, I somewhat find it hard to believe that Oak didn't try to contact the Pokemon Center and wonder where Red is.

I also refuse to believe that Gamefreak wanted Red to be dead, but I want to know...

What are your opinions regarding this theory? If you want to refute it, do so.

If you have a theory of your own, say so.

And I apologize if this thread was made a little late.

I would like to add something. What if a trainer was waiting for Red when HE went to Mt. Silver?

Why would such a great Trainer as Red die on Mt. Silver?

'Tis implied that he didn't come down from Mt. Silver at all. Given the environment and the circumstances, if we were talking realistically, Red more than likely would have died from health issues due to the freezing weather.

But it does raise a valid hole in the theory; Why would Gamefreak kill off one of the most loved characters in the Pokemon franchise?

That IS weird... But there's the Black2/White2 thing where you can battle Red in a stadium type thing :O

So, should we assume this is just a theory that Ash dies, or do the events in Black2/White2 take place BEFORE Gold/Silver/HG/SS?

I'm going to take a stab at it and say that the events came after. After all, the technology is more futuristic than that of the previous games, HG/SS, FireRed/LeafGreen, Sapphire, Ruby, Emerald, ect.

I believe it's implied that the Hoenn events came after the first two games, which also implies that BLack/White events may have taken place after as well. For one, they include Wallace and Steven from the Hoenn regions, and they describe Red as a Champion, which implies he was the Champion at the time. The probability of the events happening given this evidence is almost 0.

That, and the Stadium is similiar to the Pokemon Contests in Sapphire/Ruby/Emerald and Diamond/Pearl and the Pokeathalon in HG/SS; it isn't part of the canon, therefore is questionable whether or not it punches holes in the death theory.

But one question still stands... Why does Red "Disappear" instead of walking away after the battle in Gold/Silver/HG/SS?

Indeed. I would give them a benefit of a doubt and say perhaps the wind picked up a bit and temporarily blinded Gold/Ethan's vision, and Red used that opportunity to escape while he wasn't looking, hence why the screen went black? Of course, I'm just going with my optimistic side. And if that was the case, where could Red have gone without people noticing him?

There are three possibilities in my perspective.

The first possibility is a nod to the fact that every time the player gets defeated, they black/white out and end up at the pokemon center.
The second is that Red ended up flying away, but the timing is too short for him to actually get away quick enough for Gold/Ethan to see
And the third is that he is possibly a spirit/ghost that finally is able to rest after being defeated.

Again, with my Fly theory. The timing is too short and he wouldn't be able to possibly get away quick enough by time Gold/Ethan recovers, as the screen only goes black for a split second.

who is red?

Red (Japanese: レッド Red) is the canon name of the player character in the Generation I games Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, Yellow and the male choice in their Generation III remakes Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, where his female counterpart is Leaf.

"... Making it through Victory Road and finally to Indigo Plateau, Red defeats the Elite Four and discovers, to his surprise, that Blue has defeated them before him and is the Champion. Red defeats Blue in the final battle, becoming the Champion himself, but then continues his training, rather than staying at Indigo Plateau. Encountering an offshoot of Team Rocket in the southern Sevii Islands, lead by Executive Archer, Red reveals with his Earth Badge that Giovanni has disbanded the organization, and, though defeated, the group there intends to revive Team Rocket and bring Giovanni back, having already made plans to force Pokémon to evolve with radio waves. Red continues as a wandering Trainer, eventually making his way to the caves of Mt. Silver, where he trains his Pokémon alone.
Eventually, Ethan, Kris, or Lyra arrives at Mt. Silver and challenges Red, identified only as a Pokémon Trainer. If defeated, Red vanishes from Mt. Silver, and returns every time the Elite Four is defeated again by the player of Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, or SoulSilver."

he was called blue on blue.

But Red is his canon name. Looking at the manga's etc, and how Blue was the 3rd version after Red and Green in Japan originally. Blue is your Rival.

I'll admit; I've never played Pokemon Blue, so I can't vouch for that.

However, his name is Red in the future games and in games where he appears in, such as Pokemon Stadium.

It's your Rival, Blue, that you fight at the end of the Elite Four as far as I know, if you're referring to Red/Blue/Yellow. As for Gold and Silver, you fight him in Mt. Silver, which you gain access to after you defeat the Elite Four.

but i had blue, and it let me call him blue. he was called blue to a lot of people. also i thought you fought him at the end of the elite four?

... Okay, dude. I don't know if you're being sarcastic or trying to be silly here, but his CANON name is Red, just like Ash's name in the anime is Ash. Ash was based off Red. Gary was based off Blue. Doesn't matter what you named him, his CANON name is Red. He was called Red on Stadium 2, he was called Red in Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver. He is also called Red in Black 2 and White 2 in the Pokemon World Tournament (Whether canon or not), and Blue is also there. I could have named him Faffagaff, but he would still be referred to as Red by everyone else.

no i thought you fought him at the end of the elite four in gold/silver. he was called ultimate trainer or something?

also, i was being serious. he was definitely called blue in blue.

Okay, I'll wrap it up nice and simple.

No matter what version of the gen 1 games you play, (Red, Green, Blue, Yellow) you are playing as Red. No matter WHAT you name him.
The person you face at the end of the gen 1 games, is Blue, who at that time is the current champion, then Red beats him, becomes the champion and fucks off to Mt Silver to train, where Gold/Ethan faces Red there.
