In case you didn't know, this is a current craze.

It's available on both Android and iOS. Sad thing is (at the moment), the servers have been down more often than not. I don't think they anticipated the level of interest/usage, so now they're paying that price with frustrated customers and unfavorable reviews.

On a side note, there was a Pikachu hanging out on my coffee this morning. I was NOT having that. :gasp:

Ah yes.

More people wandering around paying attention only to their mobile phones and paying scant regard for the environment around them, endangering themselves and others around them, while cases of trespass spike.

I wonder when the first real scandal involving this game will occur...

I'd never even heard of Pokemon Go until I came across this article. It's like texting and driving.

I heard that someone discovered a dead body floating in a river because she was playing the game and wandered to the river (or stream, etc, etc) to find a water Pokemon and instead found a dead person.

And also, apparently someone was knifed because he was walking about playing Pokemon Go and ended up in a bad neighbourhood. He was stabbed and mugged.

Not sure how true any of that is, but my Youtube feed has started to throw videos about stuff like this at me.

Always look to see where you are going! Don't go climbing up any trees looking for a Pidgey.

Will people be looking for Lugia at Sea World?

I have to admit that I don't really understand exactly how this game works other than it seems to register where you are and puts Pokemon in your area for you to catch.

It uses the GPS in your phone to plot where you are and then that determines what kind of pokes you can catch. So needing to go near bodies of water for water pokemon and such, also things like weather and height elevations will play apart in this, so it comes down to an old thing, location, location, location. And that's all there really is to it.

That is indeed true....... And scary.
I haven't played it yet and I have no desire to. I was really excited for it too. I watched videos on it though and it looks really 'meh'.

So I downloaded the game and played it. My sister and I ended up walking 7 miles and passed 9 people playing as well. We yelled 'Gotta catch'em all!' each time we encountered people. This was at 12:30 A.M. :lew:

So I might try this, but this is all over my facebook and my friends are opsessed with it... people came into my work last night and were catching pokemon in the store... I was just like "wtf seriously???"

But it does seem to actually be getting people running around, might be helping to get people exercising more than any of the Wii equipment ever did :ohoho:

It's also sometimes leading people into private property. I saw part of a Let's Play that led someone to someone's backyard to get a Pokemon.

This is half of a great idea. Why not get people playing games outside with real fresh air? Why not superimpose Pokemon over the top of real life camera screens to make it look like you are encountering and capturing Pokemon in the real world?

I can see how it was taken to be a good idea, and in many ways it is an excellent idea...

However... :argor:

Be careful!

So I walked into work this morning and there were a lot of zombies in the parking lot walking around staring at their cell phones. I get up to my work space, and see if something news related happened.... again. After about an hour, two of my co-workers get in from their commute and notify me that Pokemon Go released and every, and I do mean everyone is on it.

I was like.. "no way..". They proceeded to show me each user name and co-worker's picture next to them. I dare not to download, since for one.. I've never liked pet tamer games. Also to me, it's just Nintendo's answer to Ingress which was originally released for android OS's.

I woke up the other day with 200+ messages in my group chat with my cousins/siblings, talking about Pokémon Go. I told them to be careful, etc. I was met with, "You don't understand...this isn't just a game...this is...life" and "Yeah we'll be safe, don't worry...but Ash was like 10 and traveled all over the world..." They're out of control.

My brother's walking into random areas, taking snapshots, and I had to call him out on it. I get the whole 'fun' concept, but c'mon...a little common sense. My cousin even asked us for Disneyland tickets (unfortunately for her we had cut off our Disneyland hook-ups with my husband's brother-in-law) so she can catch a pokémon there.

The hell happened to society this past week?

A huge portion of people took their stupid pill or drank some odd spin off of the kool-aid maybe a mix of both, I dunno. While I have this downloaded myself the worst i've done is stick my phone in my pocket with this thing on to walk to a park that unfortunately have to walk along a somewhat bust road at times, thankfully there is a decent enough shoulder for me to walk on if I ever decide to go back.

That's not even bad though. Walking to a park, driving to a nearby beach, or driving to a nearby neighborhood and walking around are things I'd do. What ISN'T cool though are the people who play while they drive.

I wasn't comparing to me walking and people driving while playing which alone is beyond stupid. I was comparing myself to other people that were walking and who were going to random areas which may be places you have no place going.

I think LJ is more talking about Private property or restricted areas... Some kids just got busted here and are sitting in jail for entering a private property because apparently there was a pokemon there.. climbed the fence and everything, and there were other kids in trouble for going through a construction site... I get this is a pretty cool new addicting thing... but I think people really need to think about where they are going... seriously... Yes the driving and pokemon go'ing (yes I have seen it spelt like that) is stupid, but the running around and breaking into areas is just as stupid

Also to me, it's just Nintendo's answer to Ingress which was originally released for android OS's.
The developers of Ingress (Niantic) created Pokemon GO (at least in part?), so the similarities are definitely there.

Yeah, unfortunately, people "gotta catch 'em all", so common sense goes out the window. (And of course, there are those with darker intentions.) As for me, I'm usually sitting in my home, or walking to the mailbox; that's as far as my playtime with this goes. (Growing up, I was never overly crazy about Pokemon anyway. :lew:)

What ISN'T cool though are the people who play while they drive.
Another great example of common sense going out the window. Nintendo and Niantic should put more advisories/warnings/etc in the game when it comes to future updates.

AH, fully agreed if that's what he was meaning. Unfortunately there are those out there that are so addicted and treat it like life, that they really don't care if there are consequences.
There's been people in our area that got caught by the police because they would sit at the Pokemon Centers and would mug people when they got there. They've said on the news that people need to go in a group when they play because of this.

i wish i could play but i live in a rural area :okay:

Bad signal? Or not enough landmarks / streets / etc to be picked up by the GPS etc? I guess it depends on how rural you are.

I'm sure you'll have plenty of these to catch if you could play:

I know that Greeny will pocket a few of these:

I wonder how accurately the positioning is of these 'types'. I know we're meant to get water Pokemon near bodies of water, etc. And I know a number of people have had Rattatas spawning in McDonalds...
