Poor Xemnas?

I had a lengthy analysis typed up in approach to this, but it got lost in logout.

That happened to me a few days ago with a response on Cloud and Squall, but once I logged back in, the reply was still there.

On topic, I did feel a little sorry for Xemnas at that part. Maybe I'm just extremely soft-hearted, but everytime I heard someone like Yen Sid say "They only pretend to have emotions" or people say "Nobodies aren't supposed to exist," I felt bad. I mean, isn't that a little pretentious of Yen Sid? It seems logical, with the lack of "hearts," but some of those quotes, like the ones Riku mentioned in his post, don't sound like they came from monsters without hearts. Sometimes I even thought Yen Sid only said that so Sora wouldn't feel bad about fighting them. *didn't like Yen Sid all that much*

And what about them not "supposing" to exist? The fact is, they do. They may only be "shadows" left behind, but they are real. Roxas was put in a fake Twilight Town, but while he was there he thought he was real. Is he not supposed to exist? And what about Axel? He has a pretty big fanbase. I always thought of the Nobodies like I thought of FFX's Tidus. Tidus was only the "shadow" or dream of someone from the real Zanarkand. It could be argued he wasn't supposed to exist. He thought he was real, though. Yuna thought he was real. She didn't stop loving him when she found out he wasn't.

*phew* In conclusion, yes, Organization XIII did some pretty terrible things, but they can't just be roundly condemned because of what they are. I thought it was telling when Xemnas asked why the heroes hate the Darkness so much and Sora had to struggle for an answer.

I'd like to think that we should feel sorry for him... but the fact that he wanted to blow up the world, I just can't believe that there would be a reason good enough for us to feel sorry for that freak...

From the moment I learned that Organization were the enemies, I didn't like them. [Yes, I really get into the whole good side/bad side of a game and see from the main characters point of view. Which may be naive, but whatever].
And then I learned more of the Nobodies and did feel sorry for them. They know they have no right to be - how must that make them feel?
I tried putting myself in their shoes and it helped me gain a better understanding. If I had lost my heart - well, I know I would want to get it back.
Perhaps Organization XIII didn't go about regaining their hearts in the right way, but in a sense, they didn't have much choice in the matter. I'm not saying that what the Organization did was right, but I feel that they deserve some sort of sympathy.
This was why Roxas intrigued me. After I stopped playing with him and learnt the details, I felt quite sad that he had to meet such a destiny. To see from my point of view, I guess you'd have to put yourself in their shoes, and imagine how you would feel. Surely, you wouldn't want to be hated for something that wasn't your fault?

And now, I must ask the question (in hopes of aiding my argument): why did the feel the need to "pretend" to have hearts, or "pretend" to have emotions?
I don't think that they were pretending I think that they actually and genuinely thought they had emotions, though they knew they didn't it might have been an instance of weakness. Or maybe they just felt something and decided I'm not supposed to have emotions but I feel empathetic or something along those lines... I really think that in the back of their not souls that they do have emotions but are just a whisper in their ear, and not really a prominent thought... Though i cannot protest your thoughts because I can't think of any material to use for my side of the argument:(

But the point of the matter is: should we feel sorry for these people who have lost their hearts, and only want them back?

Xemnas, the most desperate, tried to enter Kingdom Hearts, probably in order to FIND his heart. Should we sympathise with him? His entire goal, while evil, will result in the non-existence of Nobodies, it will result in the Nobodies becoming whole again.

To become a heartless, one doesn't necessarily have to give in to the darkness, their heart mat not have been as strong as another. Is this possibly another reason why we should feel sorry for them?

A final question in this post: does anyone actually understand where I'm coming from? :P

I very much understand where you're coming from.
I also see that he was rather selfishly taking the hearts of others just to claim his own.

I felt sort of sorry for Xemnas but I felt really sorry for Axel he came across like he really missed his heart. The reason why he liked been around Roxas and later Sora because they made him feel like he had a heart.
