Hey everyone, i have searched everywhere for a topic like this but to no solution. When i play FF9 on my ps2 it runs through the Movies fine, but when on my ps3 the movie in the beginning when the theater ship tries to escape it glitches and freezes. i was just wondering if anyone else had heard of this happening. I have a newer version of the disk its a Greatest Hits collection, so it is in no way an old disk. I'm having to resort to playing on my ps2 and saving in the petrified forest and then converting the saved memory to me ps3. Quite annoying. I have tried running the game with auto size up off and smoothing off but it still does not work. I'm not really looking to see if there is a solution so much as if i am the only one having a problem. Thanks for your time.

I'll move this to the Help Booth for ya. =P

What kind of PS3 do you have by the way?

I was told there are certain games that only play on the PS3. A PS2 will play PS1 games so problem. But some games just will refuse to play.

I have a similar problem, I can't get past the scene where bomb explodes in disk 1, mine is 60GB and works fine on other ps1 games. All the scenes up to this stage work fine, any ideas why this would happen?

I'm in the same boat as FFGuy i have a 60gb and the cut seen with the bomb exploding just does not play. It freezes when the scene goes to the statue lady on the front of the theater ship. Must just be one of those cd spots that dosent seem to want to play on the ps3?

Some of the newer PS3's have something that stops certain ps1 games working. Particularly the ones in Europe.

I actually got an 80 gig and I have no problems whatsoever with this. The guy at Best Buy told me I would have gaming issues if I got the 60 gig...he said I would need to buy some kind of external hard drive to play PS1 games.

That is very strange that the 60gb PS3 would have problems. The 60gb uses hardware emulation meaning that there are actually PS and PS2 parts inside of the machine. The 80gb is what I thought would have the problems since it uses software emulation, which means it just has PS and PS2 emulators, much like you get for your computer.

They do occasionally come out with updates that fix some of the emulation problems. I believe the last one was 2.10, so try getting that if you don't have it.

Sony also has a website where you can check game compatibility found below. Hope this helps

I went to the site that lassic posted and it says that my exact problem was fixed with the PS3 Update 1.90. 4 flashing lines come across the screen when the bomb explodes in the FMV sequence in the beginning of the game. i have my ps3 update to 2.10 and it still freezes there. Such a shame to because this was one of my favorite FF's to just play through over and over. If you guys here anything else or if you find a site where i can post my problems to sony so they can get it worked out it would be very helpful. im going to go check the website he posted to see if there is a help section where i can post a problem. Till next time.>_<

If there are green overly large pixels that show up in the image when it freezes, it might be bad disks. The effect also happens when I lift by 3rd gen console's lid to skip animations, and yes, it does the same. If I may ask, what generation of PS3 do you have? The newest ones have BC problems. (BC's been partly cut in the newest ones.)

Hope it's partly helpful.

On cleaning disks, if you have a old (or new) 'iononizer' style cleaner for records/Viynls it works a treat (just don't try breathing on the disks first, and go in straight paths along the surface.
