*just wanna ask if you have promises, oaths or vows you made in your life or to other people ;) sounds kinda corny but its a good topic dontcha think?

*Ok me first :)...

*I made a promise never to talk back to my parents no matter how wrong their views or how stupid they talk about me . i was quite a rebel when i was a teen, then again who wasnt eh :D well i used to have verbal fights with me mum and me dad but later i realized no matter how wrong they are its not good to fight your parents. I owe them everything and i should honor that :)

*Another promise i made back in the day was never to miss a mass in my life, those who are catholic would understand.as i said i was a scoundrel and i caused a lot of trouble back when i was young but even so God never stopped giving blessings to me. so i made a vow that i would go to church every sunday or saturday :) its the least i can do ;)

*so enough about little ol moi howza bout youzza guyzzzz :wacky:

Um, I'm not very keen on making promises to anyone because I know it can always be broken and I really don't want to disappoint, especially if it's something like, "I promise I'll always be there for you." That can easily be broken any day...although I do tell my daughter that I'll always be there for her just to reassure her. It's not a promise, but it's a start. There will come a day when I wouldn't be there for her for some reason or another...but I really don't wanna think about that right now.

Hmm, now promises to myself...that's a little different. I vowed that I would finish college and be successful one day just to prove to my parents and a few family members who was kinda demeaning my character when I was pregnant. I know, the reasons behind for being successful is so wrong, but again, that's just an added factor that I would always remember to keep pushing myself to be up there someday, I guess.

After dealing with like two dozen bitter old people at work one day, I vowed that I would never allow myself to turn out that way once I become a geezer. I wanna be that old dude who talks nonsense, but everyone sorta likes cause he's nice and worth laughing at whenever he craps his pants.

My brother promised he'd murder me if I did. Hopefully he doesn't become too senile to recognize me for the bitter asshole I turn into (if I break my vow).

God...I hate mean old people.

I don't think I have ever made *serious* promises to anyone....as Mit's said, they are too easily broken. My ex used to make false promises all the time to me and it used to make me so angry each and everytime he'd break those promise

So I promised myself I would never do that to someone else :monster:

I've so far never made any huge promises to anyone else. Unless it was somebody who I fully trust then promises would be too loose, and I most likely wouldn't care about them enough to go through with them. And if it was somebody who I did really care about, well I would hate to promise something and then disappoint them. =/

Although, I don't know if this counts, but I always hear about people who when they leave home drift away from their parents, and I vowed that I would never become like that with my parents and siblings. It wasn't so much a promise to them though, as a promise to myself, because I couldn't imagine life without them. I'm really close to my brother and sister and they mean so much to me as friends aswell as family. So I guess that's one, but apart from that there haven't been many more.

I'm not sure this counts but... I promised God that I will do my best to be myself. I promised I will take care of my friends and that I will treat other people like I would to be treated ^_^ And I promised myself I will one day become a singer or at least work in music business...

I don't ever need to make promises to other people, for some reason. I just say I'll do it and that's it.

I'm going to make a promise now.

I WILL NEVER LIE ABOUT MYSELF TO BE COOLER

*The promise you made to your daughter was great, although it may not be a sure thing all th time and promises are ment to be broken its good making her feel secure and loved, well done ;)

*i think thats a very good promise, youd vow never to hurt anyone like your ex did and not thinking of revenge! :) well done!

*I agree, promises are easily broken but its a test for your own limit on how mush you can commit to keeping it! ;)

It's not hard to edit. All you have to do after you post is look down on the right-hand side of your previous post. There is an edit button there right beside the quote button. You can edit your post there. From there it should be self-explanatory.

I only make the promises that are immediate like, "I promise I'll call you when I get home." or "I promise I'll do it later."

I make those promises that I know I can do. I don't like those promises that have to do with emotion like, "I promise I won't get mad." or "I promise to love you forever and ever and ever until my elbows fall off!"

It makes no sense why people would look that far off in the future when there isn't any certainty of fulfilling that promise.

It's just too...extravagant.

Aha, good point, Milfeulle! I completely forgot about those type of promises. Yes, something that is easily doable and I know I can do...then I'll make that cliche "I promise" phrase.

After a friend and i got into a fight, i promised i would never talk to him again. That's a negative example >_< sorry
I've also made good promises but they're not really important

*hmmm that seems a safe way to give a promise then you can certainly do it right!?...NOT!:P even if its a simple promise theres no guarantee that youll always keep it right!?:) i promise ill be home at 10 blah blah,i promise il call you or do it later??? what if you forget?and forgetting is a common thing.

*there are promises that remind you of things youll never do again or always do because you learn from past experiences :) stating a simple promise wont always work ;) riiiiggghhhttt! ;)

I'm not one for promises. That doesn't mean I disagree with them, I just thing a 'promise' is an overused word and doesn't have as much meaning any more as what it should do. I'm all for making promises/oaths/vows and such at weddings and things like that because you are hopefully going to spend the rest of your life with that person so you need to trust and respect them etc.

However, I just think promises are far to easy to break nowadays and I'm with most people when they say they don't want to disappoint which is why I don't make them unless it's aimed towards family or a girlfriend.

I'm sort of like Mits when she said that she promised herself to finish college and succeed etc, although I have promised myself that in a way...it seems more like will power to me because you will have to put yourself through things like essays etc, even though you don't want to...but at the end of the day, it'll help me succeed.

Immediately is my word. I don't think I have failed to do any of my immediate promises. My most recent was, "I promise I'll clean the computer room after I finish my homework." And I did.

Those immediate promises that if you forget still, you would now be subject to memory loss.

*oh oh oh pardon moi ;) if youve never broken those "Accomplish able" promises of yours then good for you :)

*but theres still a long road in your life and maybe, just maybe youll make a promise and break em :P hehe anyways well done ;)
