I've downloaded Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX onto my PS3 (40GB + HDMI cable), but have been disappointed by the highly pixelated quality of the graphics, which I recall being better when I played the originals on my PS2.
I have enabled the 'graphics smoothing' feature, which has improved things slightly. Does anybody know of a way that this problem can be fixed?

nope. as far as im aware its not a bug, its a feature :wacky:

those games on psn are just basically direct ports so i dont think youre gonna find a way to make it better. what bugged me more tbh was the fact that i couldnt play my ffix discs on my ps3. i ended up having to download it from psn and it just looks exactly the same :hmph:

He called steiner jay leto =_=

Nah you cant change it. Smoothing is the only way to make it better. Gotta remember that the graphics in ff9 were a good bit better than the previous 2 games.
Honestly, with smoothing on id say they look the same as the original.

i tried puttin that smoothing on didnt notice any difference at all.

if you have an hd tv and (i'd assume youre playin through an hdmi cable) you might want to reduce the sharpness on your tv.

Smoothing makes a MASSIVE difference :gasp:
Although im pretty sure that sony made the ps1 games look shitter on purpose to make the smoothing impressive. I didnt remember them being that rough round the edges.

I thought that - perhaps reducing the resolution to 720p, or utilizing a SCART cable to provide a softer focus. Anyway, now I'd rather like to play the damn thing (if my sister ever lets me have a go)!
Thanks for your help.

It's probably because you've been playing such high quality games in terms of visuals that the graphics of VII/VIII/IX looks awful. But yes, as other people have mentioned, it's just the feature since it's the original game. All being said, I could imagine having the game played on a larger TV would make it look more blocky than a smaller TV. :hmmm:
