Playstation PS3 Top 5 List

5) Mafia II

Fantastic game. If any game out there is truly like watching a movie, it's Mafia 2. To me, it's serving as a replacement for GTA IV. The characters are so much more likable in this game. Whenever someone of importance died in the game, it gave me a disgusted feeling that no other game could really ever do. It's definitely a very realistic game in the sense that the environment and story is so believable.

4) Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

I haven't even finished the game but I'd like to have it have a spot on this list. The multiplayer is extremely refreshing from the typical online game and the story, from what I've gathered, is just as great as Assassin's Creed II's. There's an insane amount of missions and various tasks to complete.

And if I end up hating it in the end, this spot'll go to Assassin's Creed II. :wacky:

3) Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

2) Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

If anyone doesn't have these two on their list of the best PS3 games of all time, then they probably haven't played them. I can't see why anyone wouldn't immediately fall in love with these two games. Uncharted 2 was a massive improvement from Uncharted gameplay wise, but both have engaging storylines and exciting gameplay. Uncharted 2's multiplayer will keep anyone busy for quite a long time.

1) Bioshock

Best. Game. Ever.

I just fucking love this game. :sad3: I never go back to play a story mode on any game after I've finished it; it's boring, usually. With Bioshock, I could go on and start from any random checkpoint, totally not in the mood to even be playing a video game, and have fun. Playing on Easy Mode and just going around killing splicers with the wrench, as weird as it may sound to you, is the most fun I've had in a video game in a long time. It's the perfect mix of everything that a video game should be. Absolutely fantastic story, amazing soundtrack (I'll guarantee you it turned many people who played it back to the classics), fun combat, it's own way for the player to customize combat to their liking with tonics and plasmids, great graphics, and a lot of replay value. The setting is something completely different, Rapture is definitely one of my favorite video game locations. I just wish it was a little more room to explore in the first game. I'd say the only flaw that it had that Bioshock 2 improved on was allowing you to travel into the ocean surrounding Rapture. Constantly having to run into enemies in Bioshock got a bit tedious but that's hardly a deal breaker. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Mgs4 sons of the patriots

It had a lot of cinematics/talking but it didnt change the fact that its probadly the best metal gear solid game so far and my favourite game ever i think.

Bioshock

Bringing back the days of system shock, awesome gameplay and graphics with a slight horror feel, i loved it. All the options available to you in the game with things like hacking etc were really cool.

Dead space

Holy crap this is like the only game ive played in forever thats made me feel tense so i gotta put it up here.

Call of duty black ops

Its the best cod game yet by a mile. I lvoed mw2 but this is everything that game should have been and better.

Heavy Rain

I almost forgot about this game. I said this above about mgs4 but heavy rain is probadly my favourite game ever. The story and how you could change it by your actions was so brand new and original. I hope loads more come out.

Other games that i really liked were

condemned 2

resident evil 5

uncharted I and II

Well, my top 5 PS3 games, ahhhh let me think. . .

in reverse order. . . .

5: Uncharted 2: Among thieves - Great game, very tomb raider esc, and loved pritty much everything about it.

4: Assassins Creed Brotherhood - i will admit it is my first game from the series, but i really enjoyed it, the movement of the character was fun and the controls were interesting, although i didn't enjoy the online play, the storyline was good enough to counter balance it

3: Call of Duty Black Ops - love it not only for it's online game play but also it's zombie mode, amazing for fun with mindless violence, killing off unending waves of Zombies. . . loads of fun. but the online game play is vital for the game (and all COD'S really) as they really have perfected the Online game play.

2: Fallout: New Vegas - admittedly i hated this game when i first bought it, i was sat there thinking (this is rubbish) but then i got into it, began killing things and questing hard, just pushing on as i enjoyed Fallout 3 throughout the game and thought "well, i have bought it now, i might as well see it through for a while, and then when i got further in, i LOVED it, i was like "WOW" and just kept playing, I would recommend it.

1: Dragon Age 2: the gameplay, storyline, character development, character personalization, weapon choice, weapon appearance, and everything else, i loved this game from start to finish, it was just a really really great game, infact i would say it's almost perfect. I LOVE IT, AND YOU WILL TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, there are my top 5, so im outta here

1 - Uncharted 2: Best game on the PS3 by far, that is until Drakes Deception is out, Graphics are insane and I love the story, so much so that I believe this is truly the best game out for PS3 at the moment.

2 - Uncharted: Drakes Fortune: Similar to the first really, the story and character's are fantastic and once again superb graphics and fantastic cutscenes.

3 - Killzone 3: I love Killzone and would say that both 2 and 3 deserve Number 3, but Killzone 3 is massively superior the graphics, the story, the characters I love them all!

4 - Gran Turismo 5: I'm not a big fan of racing games but I have always loved GT, It's realistic (except from no damage) the graphics once again are out of this world the cars and locations are perfect.

5 - LittleBigPlanet 2: This game is great for having fun on, it's a game My mum can play, not well however but its a game for everyone, needless to say both 1 and 2 deserve a top 5 spot but the 2nd is better with what it has too offer, online and offline.

1. Metal Gear Solid 4- This game is absolutely flawless in every respect. Not only is the storyline wonderful, but the gameplay is so intuitive and leaves the players with so many options that it's endlessly replayable. Some people think that the long cutscenes ruin the experience, but without them the game wouldn't feel as conclusive to the Metal Gear Solid saga. This is probably the best action game ever made, and easily my favorite of all time.

2. Fallout 3- It's a lot like the established classic Elder Scrolls Oblivion in more ways than one, but the Cold War post apocaylptic atmosphere gives the game much more charisma than Oblivion could ever dream of having. Sure, the leveling up system is a little flawed (you shouldn't be able to pick a perk every level), but the game's amazing exploration and atmosphere really overshadow any of its minor flaws. Western RPGs don't get any better than this.

3. LittleBigPlanet- I haven't played this game since 2009, but I remember I had a blast with it. The platforming in this is extremely unique, very addicting, and easy to pick up. The level building feature is what really drew me in to this game and I spent many, many hours creating my own levels.

These are the three games that make me come back to my PS3, usually I tend to play PSone and PS2 games instead.

As far as exclusives:

Uncharted/Uncharted 2- I saw you listed Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, so I know I don't have to tell you how awesome Uncharted 2 is. Go pick it up immediately.

Resistance: Fall of Man/Resistance 2- I'd recommend playing both of these, bearing in mind that both are rather old, especially Fall of Man, which was available at launch for the PS3. They're both very solid games, though.

Infamous/Infamous 2- I enjoyed Infamous, but Infamous 2 really takes the cake. You could really skip the first one, but make sure to not skip the second.

Demon's Souls- I feel like everyone should play this game, at the very least. It will definitely test your patience and your skill as a gamer. It's hard, but it isn't ever unfair. Anytime you mess up, it's because you did something wrong. The controls are so tight you'll rarely die because the game messed up. In short: play it. It's like, $17.99 at Gamestop, so it's the perfect price.

Killzone 2/3- Both of these games are good. The 2nd is better story-wise, but the gameplay is better in the 3rd. So regardless, you get a good product.

As far as overall recommendations (not including any on the former list)

Mass Effect 2- Seriously. Probably my favorite game of last year. If you're even remotely into role playing and third person shooters, do not hesitate.

Fallout 3/New Vegas- Both are excellent games, and both will suck up about 100 hours of your time, depending on how much you put into them.

Dead Space 2- Survival horror at its finest. I hope the next Resident Evil game takes a cue from DS2.

Red Dead Redemption- The best Wild West video game ever made. It's just a damn good game that I feel like everyone should play.

Crysis 2- Great Single-Player. And the Multiplayer is free on PSN, so have a ball.

I only have 3to tell you little big planet
because it has adventure and it got a pretty good score. and you get to make your own levels. You also get to go to go to different countries.

second game Assassions creed iv"e heard it looks good and got a a good score.
And I heard from someone that its really cool with the weapons and stuff.

FFXIII has good graphics and the battle system is good.I heard it had one of the best music of the year.

1.) NeiR RepliCant
Awesome semi apocoliptic game. Features are awesome, characters are awesome and songs are on top!XD Wonderful storyline too.

2.)Eternal Sonata
Really awesome RPG. Lot's of characters and a REALLY colorful game. But it's a sad game though.

3.)Devil May Cry 4
I get to be Dante(for like, what? 4-5 missions?). I like Nero's Devil Bringer. It's classic!

4.) FFXIII
Any FF game I play is always a fav.(NERD!)

5.) Another Centuries Episode R
I just LOVE Gundam!XD

I've got more, but---I don't wanna feel like more of a nerd than I already am.^^

I would say Catherine too but I just have the demo. But it's still fun.

Lets see if I can even list 5 PS3 games...
No particular order.

Heavy Rain
Really fun game, completely different to anything I've ever played, I enjoyed it so much I spent an entire 24 hours on it without sleep. I've never done that before.

Read Dead Redemption
Also one of the few games I could hardly put down, I actually finished this game which is rare for me. Great atmosphere and characters and I loved riding horses :britt:

Little Big Planet 1 and 2.
I put them both here because I enjoyed them the same amount. Really cute and fun game.

L.A. Noire.
I love detective games and LA Noire is fantastic. I loved the really great facial graphics but some how I was still unable to tell if people were lying or not :ahmed:

Tekken 6.
Great game, always loved the tekken series and Tekken 6 was just as good as the others.

1.> Dragon Age: Origins
By far the most enjoyable game I have ever played. I loved the gameplay, I loved the characters, and I loved listening to most of my part rant on Alistair.
2.> The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
My no# 1 pick before Dragon Age: Origins came out. massive, expansive world, multiple races to choose from, magnificent array of customization, wonderful storyline, so much to do and more always in the works.
3.> Demon's Souls
A new age revisitation of the old age game difficulty. While there's never a Game Over, you will die in this game. You will die ALOT. But once you get the basics down, this game is immensely enjoyable.
4.> Disgaea 3
I have always, always loved the Disgaea series. It's humor is brilliant, it has a good storyline to it and a boatload of different endings! Not to mention having lv. 9999 characters and still being able to find strong, challenging enemies like Prinny Baal keeps things interesting.
5.> Cross Edge
This game has Felicia. That is all :x3:

1) Assassin's Creed II: Okay, as much as anyone who plays PS3 will know that I play CoD Blops, ACII is actually my favourite. The graphics are ace and I loved the gameplay. When my friend lent me it I didn't actually think I'd like it but... I love it.

2) CoD Blops: I have over 8 days playing time on multiplayer on this, says it all really :wacky: I mainly like it for the banter you get playing with the mics on. Though it makes me rage... so bad :sad3:

3) Assassin's Creed Brotherhood: Same reasons as ACII really, except I was a bit disappointed that the main storyline was much shorter than that in ACII. I'm still yet to try the online as well, I'll have to do that sometime.

4) Uncharted 2: Among Thieves: Before I got CoD this was the main thing I played online and I loved it. I also loved the single player, it reminded me of tomb raider when it was still good (i.e. PS1 era)

5) BioShock: I still haven't finished this game but I love it. Aiming to get it finished in the next fews days :griin: I don't normally like games like this but this one is pretty good.

1.) RESIDENT EVIL 5 - because all there is now-a-days on PS3 are all shooters. Well, 70% of them. RE5 is IMO, one of the best games I've played yet. Don't care for all the hate it gets on this forum, I just love it. Especially mercenaries mode :ohoho:

2.) BORDERLANDS - FPS+RPG elements, nuff said. We need more games like this.

3.) DEMON'S SOULS - It's not really AS HARD as people tend to over exaggerate, but I love the challenge it provides. And the endless new games just make it over the top, with each NG+ exponentially harder than the last.

4.) BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM - the combat was seamless, one of the more better adventure games I've played. I didn't get some parts, but then again, I loved knocking out Joker's goons.

5.) COD BLACK OPS - This is up here only because the majority of my friends play BLOPS and so does most people here.

At the moment...

  1. Uncharted 3 - After a couple of days, I'm 70% into the Campaign mode and I am loving it! The story is very much like Indiana Jones, full of twists and a host of intriguing characters. Having not played the previous games, many of them remain a mystery to me, but this sort of adds to the overall suspense. The gameplay is very good. The action and adventure sequences work together to create a highly enjoyable experience, which works seamlessly with the story.
  2. Valkyria Chronicles - Chris and I were playing through this together when at Uni. Aesthetically, it was stunning. The shaded characters and world, with almost grungy, sketchy effects, were rather suitable for the story and truly helped make the game a unique experience. In terms of gameplay, this is of a type of strategy game I can really enjoy! I liked being able to move each character around the map within a limited amount of steps and time. The variety of roles - their strength and weaknesses - allowed one to develop a personal strategy, though there's no doubt that there were optimum approaches to each level. It became more challenging as time went on, but each win was satisfying. The story wasn't as good as it could have been, but I could live with that. :)
  3. Metal Gear Solid 4 - I have only played a little of this game, but so far I'm enjoying it a lot. There's a slightly dark feel to it; Snake's character is awesome; and it's quite fun outwitting the men. It requires patience, yes, but I have plenty of that. ;))
  4. Heavy Rain - Again, this is a game I haven't played a lot - I played a few hours on Chris' PS3 several months ago - but from what I've seen, it's a unique experience with some incredible characters. The game has a realistic feel to it which helps intensify the story/stories. The controls are actually quite fun. Sure, the game is primarily about pressing certain buttons at particular points, but there's something rhythmic about it.

Pretty soon I expect the list to be:

  1. Final Fantasy XIII Versus - I'm not sure what this will be like yet - I have a feeling the gameplay will be a little different to what FF fans are used to - but the story, characters and world look awesome. I've wanted to play this game for years, but didn't think I'd end up getting a PS3 on which to play it. Then I discovered that there were a lot of PS3 exclusive titles I should get, so thank you to those. :sup:
  2. Uncharted 3
  3. NinoKuni - Made, in part, by Ghibli. Fingers crossed it's as good as their movies.
  4. The Last Guardian - This game looks absolutely beautiful and if Shadow of the Colossus is anything to go by, it'll be unique and fresh. There'll be something poetic about it. Can't wait.
  5. Rayman Origins - This game looks absolutely awesome! The old classic Rayman games were great, so I do have high hopes that they'll return to these roots and make up for the rather...odd rabbids games. Those games were fun, but they were NOT Rayman.

Final Fantasy XIII, XIII-2 and Skyrim are all on my 360, so. :wacky:

I haven't played many Playstation 3 games, maybe fifteen or so overall. I will just write down my top 5 out of those, though no doubt they'll change almost every time I get a new game

Uncharted 2
The first one wasn't good, but it always felt like it simply wasn't the sum of its products. Even though I am sure you all totally know what I mean by that, I will elaborate like the kind guy I am. It had so many great ideas, but when they all came together, the final product wasn't reflective of the individual great parts. Imagine gathering the world's greatest actors and actresses for one film directed by your favourite director. Then it ends up being scat porn. Not that Uncharted was that bad, it's just an example, dear. I digress, Uncharted 2 delivered on all of the promises the first made, and Chloe.

Assassin's Creed II
I was told by a friend that it would take me three hours or so to get into this game. So by hour three let me tell you, I was somewhat bored. Then really without even realising it, I was loving everything about the game. The design, storyline(deliciously convoluted), the gameplay, and murdering minstrels. I hate minstrels so fucking much

Metal Gear Solid 4
I thought the third game was all right. A pal lent me this with a few other games because I had just gotten a PS3. It ended up being just great, fun story, great characters, and a lot of pretty varied gameplay

Bioshock
I started this just after I finished Dead Space, and pretty much hated it. That prick Atlas with his thick paddy accent, and the almost cartoonish sploicers. I think I was expecting it to be just an underwater DS, which was the wrong way to go into it. I started it again maybe a month later, and quickly realised how amazing it was. It could be just as creepy in its own right. Originally the idea that Big Daddy's might be just around a corner was frightening, then the mutterings of the sploicers were genuinely offpuitting in places. The story ended up being stellar as well, the 'event' was brilliant and totally unexpected.

Dead Space
This game is why I decided to finally get a PS3, I had just beaten RE4 again and wanted a horror/survival/action game. I forgot about that slightly until someone recommended it to me. At first I wasn't sure I liked it, it seemed to be just a few corridors. Followed by a slightly open space where a monster might shamble at you. I remember exactly when I decided I quite liked the game. I had gone back to our shuttle for some reason and pressed a button, when a monster leapt across the windscreen. I nearly had a heart attack, left the shuttle and it exploded knocking me to the ground. Then a ton of necromorphs started running at me, it was fucking great.
From then on I loved Dead Space in every single aspect, the story was suprisingly good and well-paced, the characters well-developed and beliveable, terrifying parts, and pretty diverse and cool looking enemies. Just a great game

I also meant to write about Heavy Rain but my lunch is ready and then I have work, Heavy Rain would probably be one of my top three games ever

Dragon's Dogma

Really fun to explore the world, was a little worried about no fast travel + fixed spawn location
But it didn't annoy me at all.

Fun combatsystem that is one of the best, if not the best I've used in an RPG.
Looking forward to the expansion and hopefully a sequel.

Valkyria Chronicles

Excellent fastpased strategy. I don't need to say more.

Catherine

Puzzle games isn't my type of game, but this was very fun to play, talking to people in the bar was also fun.
Fastpased and lot's of humor!

3D Dot Game Heroes

Zeldaclone? Maybe, but it is still an excellent adventure game.
Probably the only clone that can compete with the original.

Dark Souls & Demon Souls

Even though I haven't finished Dark Souls it is one of my favorite games.
It is Maybe a little to challenging, when I bought it I really didn't have the time to play it, because it isn't fun to play something for an hour or 2 and not make progress, but if you have time it is really fun.
If I am not getting a job soon I'll pick this one up again.

Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction

An amazing platformer with stunning visuals, hilarious characters, and tons of mayhem and destruction. Gotta love the Ratchet & Clank series. This is an early PS3 game, but there's a new Ratchet & Clank game coming. It may already be available, actually. I haven't been following video games closely as of late.

LittleBigPlanet

Another great platformer! The game offers a wide variety of difficult levels to make your way through. There are tons of unlockables that expand the number of ways you can create and customize your very own environments. Lots of room for creativity.

Resistance 2

Not the best FPS to hit the market, but it's a hell of a lot of fun. The game is greatly improved from the first title (also worth checking out, but you're not depriving yourself of much if you don't).

Those are the only PS3 exclusives I've played. I'd also suggest Oblivion, Call of Duty 4, Bioshock, Fallout 3, etc, etc, etc...

That was my post from--what--well over 3 years ago. I want to see how this has changed.

1. Ratchet & Clank : A Crack in Time

It turned out there WAS a new Ratchet game available at the time of my first post. A Crack in Time improved upon almost everything from the previous Ratchet and Clank title. More insane weapons, greater foes, cooler gadgets, and more regions to explore. As always, it's impossible not to love the game's atmosphere and charm. For such a violent, action-packed game, it's awfully endearing.

2. Tales of Graces f

Tales of Graces f is a PS3 remake of Tales of Graces (Japanese-only for the Wii). This game is brilliant. As a hardcore fan of the Tales series, this game is especially appealing. I wish every Tales game would use the battle system implemented in this game. It forces players to use strategy to overcome opponents rather than mindlessly button mash attack commands. I loved the story and characters as well.

3. God of War III

This game is brutal, which isn't too surprising. That's the kind of reputation the series has. As always, it's fun as hell to destroy hordes of enemies who are doomed to cross Kratos' path. The fights are flashy and memorable. I would still prefer a slightly longer experience from these games, but the game isn't short to the point that it's detrimental to the experience.

4. Tales of Xillia

Again, huge Tales fan over here. These games almost automatically get a spot on my list. I toyed with the idea of adding the Tales of Symphonia, Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy X HD remakes, but since they're not originally PS3 titles, I passed. Anywho, I love this game for reasons similar to those listed under Tales of Graces f. Xillia has its differences from Graces, of course, but it's ultimately the story, characters and battle system that I look at here.

5. Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

The characters and story are cheesy, but not unlikeable. I was much more addicted to the battle system. Capturing and metamorphosing familiars to do your bidding was surprisingly fun! It reminded me of Pokemon. haha
Awesome art style and soundtrack.

Not going to bother putting these in order, because it would just be arbitrary and I'll be comparing vastly different experiences.

- Journey; a strange little game keeping things as minimalistic as it can while still exuding gorgeous visuals. It's so unassuming; here is a little game that were someone to read out from the paper what its concept is, they would garner little to no excitement. But it's a game that manages to not have a single dialogue, and simply through the visual medium of a beautiful, haunting, ethereal desert landscape with evident signs of a dead civilisation, Journey is astonishingly immersive. Big budget games attempt to court players with the immersion factor, but no matter how realistically written and portrayed their characters are, and how intricately sewn together the open-world cityscapes are, Journey manages to outclass them completely in that factor. Also, that soundtrack.

- Transformers: Fall of Cybertron; now, I remember that PS2 Transformers game with the Armada incarnations of the characters, and despite the odd, floaty movements of the characters and the repetitiveness, I was quite fond of that game, until the disc mysteriously disappeared from my life. High Moon's Transformers games come along and quickly cement their place as the best that the Transformers video game licence can currently offer, and Fall manages to become one of my silent hits. It's a very well-accomplished third person action game, and nails the pacing aspect. Rather than overwhelm the player with an avalanche of good things at once, and leaving the rest of the game as an exiguous thing and a repetitive slog, the developers have avoided that, crafting a game with levels that are full of variety, gimmicks and ways to spice things up. Great story, characters and voice acting to boot.

- Assassin's Creed II; I can easily have put Brotherhood here instead, but as polished and great as it is, I can't help but see it as a glorified expansion pack to its mother mainline game. Ass Creed 2 had been another surprise hit; I came in expecting very little, except perhaps for regular bouts of frustration as stealth games ordinarily have that effect on me. Instead, I was given a game that manages to tick my boxes with its parkour aspect and the architectural fascination that comes with each and every city. The soundtrack is among one of the best I've come across, and there's nothing quite like prancing around the rooftops of Venice in the pale moonlight as the glorious accompanying theme blares out from the TV. I perhaps would have liked more flexibility with approach when it comes to the Templar targets, perhaps as a halfway point to how Dishonored is designed, and combat is ridiculously easy when you exploit the counter + kill mechanic. Other than these two quibbles, I love this game, and I'm frustrated at how the series has since become.

- Batman: Arkham City; truth be told, I'd happily put all the Arkham games in this list. Even Origins, a game I still adore, even if it is a very, very incremental sequel, or a glorified DLC expansion. I could have put Arkham Asylum up here in City's place. Asylum has a fantastic, relatively enclosed environment that suits Batman perfectly, but then I recall the disappointing boss encounters and, well, Joker by the end. City is a lot better in the boss department, and they feel like satisfying experiences that force you to whip out new strategies as the fights wear on. Having a decent open-world environment works in City's favour, and it's believably realised (okay, well, as believably realised as it can be within Batman's universe) compared to Origins inexplicably having the entirety of Gotham as this lawless hellhole. Also to point out, I love the more complex use of gadgets this time to solve puzzles or to win certain encounters. Flying a remote Batarang through sparks to give it a charge sufficiently enough to fly into a switch and disable it? That was fun to work out.

- Valkyria Chronicles; just to give my list at least one Japanese game on PS3 that I really enjoyed, here is Valkyria Chronicles. In an ideal world where certain extremists don't exist, where the worst expanses of capitalism don't proliferate at the expense of the needy, and where Britain is an empire again, Valkyria Chronicles would sell well and be a success. If only. It would have been fantastic to see more things like Valkyria, with, at least on paper, a seemingly incongruous combination of turn-based strategy RPG and real time third-person action, and the end result surprisingly works out so elegantly. I've a line-up of different classes and ample room to adjust strategies on the fly and try out different, personalised combinations and tactics beforehand, which is necessary, because this isn't a game whose enemies keel over just by grinding out stats. The story is very respectable, bearing in mind it goes a little batshit crazy, as inevitably Japanese fantasy stories will do, and the characters exude the charm and likeability that endeared me enough to twitch with shock when they decided to unexpectedly kill off one of them at a very unexpected moment. On top of that, the watercolour art style is gorgeous, elevating this anime game a mile above other anime games.

Great games also available for PS3 that I didn't play on PS3

- Mass Effect (PC); oh, the little things. I managed to get weirdly addicted to the hacking "minigame" of the PC version. I found out it doesn't exist on PS3, which prompted me to thank the Lord, which is bizarre even for me. And as repetitive and often featureless the uncharted planets are, I still love being able to have that illusion of planetary exploration available. I think BioWare made a mistake when they canned this feature for subsequent games, instead of improving on it.

- Mass Effect 2 (PC); I'm a little wary that the sequel begins to jettison some of its RPG aspects and the planet exploration, but it does deliver on some much improved combat and biotic abilities, culminating in a game that is all-round more polished than the original. I've not touched 3 yet, because a) don't have access to PS3 at uni, and b) I don't fancy using Origin for the PC version, but I know enough about it to realise that 2 is the Empire Strikes Back of the series.

- Dragon Age: Origins (PC); if this game has made me realise something, it's that firstly, playing as a mage is a lot more satisfying than I initially thought it would be; secondly, real time with pause is a damn good combat system for an RPG; and thirdly, the Fade's not that bad, people.

Conflicted

- The Last Of Us; I don't recall how many hours I've spent to get from beginning to end, and I've yet to take a look at the Left Behind DLC, but it's been an unforgettable time with Joel and Ellie, as cheesy as this sentence may sound. The story isn't exactly bursting with originality, having borrowed numerous elements from other established films and fictional concepts of zombie outbreaks and the worst natures of man when civilisation collapses, but it's the storytelling that I consider to be among the best in video game fiction. I file this under "conflicted" because...well, maybe it's just me and I suck in general, but it's well documented that I don't consider this game to be much fun. I know that might sound daft, because no one is expecting to walk into this game expecting fun, but a lot of the time I was heavily stressed, which gives me pause should anyone suggest to me that I go replay the game.

Dishonourable mentions

- The Last Guardian; because it doesn't exist.

- Final Fantasy Versus XIII; because it doesn't exist.

- Final Fantasy XIII; because it does exist.

- Assassin's Creed 3; it's amazing how the guys behind AC2 and Brotherhood turned round and made a game as tedious as this. A pox on them and a pox on me for buying it.

- Star Ocean: The Last Hope; Meracle exists. Welch exists. Edge exists. The phrase "wonderful! I'm so glad everyone's safe!" exists. The creepy doll-like 3D models with extremely plasticine bodies and marble-shaped dead, soulless eyes exist. Did I mention that Edge exists? The story exists. The people who wrote the story and the characters exist. No amount of decent gameplay can mask the rest of the game from turning me off at every new corner.

5) Infamous 1 and 2 - I know it's sort of a cheat but I'm combining them because it's hard to play one without the other, at least for the sake of context. While I do admit to the second one being better with gameplay, I actually preferred the feel and events of the first one. This was a fun superhero-ish game and I appreciated all the neat things they did with electrical powers. I put 20 plus hours into both the good and evil campaigns on both games.

4) Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen - I can't remember the last time I had so much fun with an action RPG. If I was going to be absolutely honest, I had more fun with this game than I did with Skyrim. It wasn't nearly as opened and didn't have as much content, but it was just more exciting to me. I enjoyed the in depth character customization, with it being probably the closest I've ever gotten to getting my character to actually look like me. The combat was so enjoyable. And even though the classes were majorly stream-lined, it felt really rewarding when you got new abilities. Being the Ranger class was almost unnaturally fun. I put about 80 hours into the game before beating it and I don't normally do that, given that I usually get bored with side quests around 30 or so hours and the game's campaign is maybe only about 15. So, yeah. I enjoyed the hell out of it.

3) Batman: Arkham City - When I first got this game, I 100% completed the campaign mode about four times in the first three weeks. Yeah, I was a little obsessed. But goddamn, this game was fun. I loved the combat, exploring, the atmosphere. Almost everything about it. The stealth felt a little more mundane than it did in the first one and the story wasn't as focused. But fuck it. You play as Batman. The story could've been about stopping Two Face from boring the citizens of Gotham to death by reading them the detailed reports of every citizens insurance premiums but as long as the gameplay was the same practically no one would care because it's fucking Batman. I do feel that the entertainment industry is going a little overboard recently with shoving him into everything they can, but if one good thing came out of it, it was definitely this game. And I can only hope Arkham Knight is at least as good.

2) Just Cause 2 - I could go into a detailed description as to why I love this game but instead I'm just going to leave this statement about the gameplay: Standing on top of a harrier jet that's nose diving into a snowy mountain while an enemy solider is tied to the back of it, flailing in the wind, as you fire twin sub-machine guns in the air.
...Do I even have to continue about why I love this game? Really? Oh, and that's not a predetermined event like it would've been in GTA V. That was just something you could do because.

1) MAG - Yes, I know practically no one gave a shit about this game and I think that's a shame. I have to do this date never gotten so much enjoyment out of an online, competitive FPS. I've heard a lot of comparisons to the earlier Battlefield games and if they were nearly as enjoyable as this game then I really need to get around to playing them. Huge maps, vast number of players, and over-the-top fun. I loved this game. No game has ever matched how fun it was to be a sniper in MAG. The giant maps made it feel authentic. To the best of my knowledge the servers are closed and that absolutely blows. I'd be 100% okay with the developers trying again.

Honorable Mention:
Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection - I just couldn't go without mentioning this one given that it's my favorite series. And it's probably a little off that I got so excited that they were releasing a collection of games that I'd already owned the previous incarnations of it. But whatever. It was $40 bucks for every major entry in the series (minus Portable Ops) and it made me feel happy dammit! So, yeah. I bought it. :mokken:
