Racism

Nice. :smartass: That really does seem to be the most useful way to handle it; I too find it quite fulfilling when I am able to treat something our society takes extremely seriously with irreverence, particularly if the issue in question is as misguided as racism. Provided all the victimized parties are "in" on the joke, too, the humour can only escalate as more and more outrageous stereotypes are co-opted for your amusement.

Almost a shame that you haven't alluded to having any German friends; it does not seem as if you would shy away from some lighthearted World War references. :P

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that find it something to laugh at. As for German friends, I do have one, and we dubbed him the nickname of "Hitler". He thinks it's bloody hilarious.

He will show up to places and do the Nazi salute. Sure it offends some people, but all in all, it's just a good time. People need to lighten up and find the brighter, comedic side of things.

I've been called a Nazi for my German background. I dunno, it used to bug me but I just don't care anymore. I'm not racist though and I strongly dislike people who are.

I have a pakistani background. It's really fantastic. People are racist to me a lot, but it's actually funny racism and I've heard some PRETTY good ones.

"It's okay, he's asian, he can't see."
"Yeah well your people couldn't see the towers while they were flying in NYC."

No i haven't been discriminated in anyway, though i see it all around me whenever i'm out and about. It really bothers me, i don't understand why it exists. So fucking what if you're black, white, asian, hispanic, etc. That does not justify any reason at all to be racist against anybody ever. We're all human beings, yes there are times where we disagree with each other but that doesn't justify any reason to be hateful toward one another because of the color of our skin.

Never enountered anything like this personally. Where i lived and grew up it was all white folks. Nowadyas there are more mixed races living about than there was but ive still never encountered racism towards myself. With the population generally mostly being white the likelyhood of it happening to me is a lot lower. Not that it doesnt happen, but its never happened to me. Honestly i dunno how id react. I doubt i would care that much but never being in a situation like that i cant say for sure.

I've never been racially abused. I live in a place where the people are mostly white....well sometimes it's hard to tell. I s'pose I sometimes say things that could be deemed "racist" but that's not specifically hatred towards a race (or hatred at all for that matter).

If a foreigner is ignorant towards me I'll have a little rage about it (not to them considering the words/phrases I might use), and that seems to be a trait shared by a lot of foreign people, regardless of creed. If thinking that is racist then I must be racist but that's certainly my experience of the majority of foreign people I come into contact with.

So I'm not trying to condone racism, and I don't batter folk because they're black or Asian or whatever. If someone pisses me off it's all too easy for me to blame their race/culture.:hmmm:

I've never been attacked or insulted for my race that I was aware of, but I hear people make comments about other races than mine around me quite frequently, and it's irritating. For example, I work in an office that's adjacent to an Asian restaurant, and this particular restaurant has had some issues with the health department recently. I've never noticed any problems myself--the food there was actually quite good when I ate there myself, and I didn't see any bugs or anything--but everyone else in my office has for some reason taken up a vendetta against these people, and I have a feeling it's not just because of the health concerns, but because the employees also don't speak English very well. At one point there was actually a small fire in the restaurant, and whenever someone in my office would go outside to talk to the employees during the aftermath, they'd come back in making some sort of snide remarks about them that were not exactly politically correct. But of course, when we have Asian clients come into the office and spend lots of money in our store, the other people in my office are fine with that. :mokken: It's just irritating--I don't think my coworkers would appreciate it if the same was done to them, but that doesn't seem to matter to them I guess.
