Recommend Me Some Songs?

OMG Kaylee, you like the Goo Goo Dolls and Tonic too?! :tighthug: Two of my favorites :yay:

Have you ever heard the Lostprophets? You might like them, from looking at some of the other ones on your list. I haven't heard all of their stuff yet but their whole album "Start Something" is really good, I was just listening to it yesterday :D Favorite songs on it are "I Don't Know," "Last Train Home," "Wake Up," "Sway," "Last Summer"...well, the whole album xD

hell yeah :D
:highfive:

we're cool Kate. =D

The Lostprohets? They sound really familiar......

I'll check them ou! :monster:

Well, I hope you like post-hardcore! (That's what I'm currently listening)
Underoath's a good band. The beats are rad. The vocals??? AWESOME :awesome:
The screams are wicked. The drummer's the one doing the clean back-up vocals (which is awesome 'cause he's singing while drumming). They also sound good during live performances too! :D

Yeah, they're not too bad :hmmm: Pretty good live indeed :D
thanks muchos.
I looked at one of the videos. Pretty good. I like the lead singers voicce. idunno he's got some pretty good vocals.

Soundgarden are worth checking out. They were one of the big Grunge bands back in the early 90's. I'd recommend giving Rusty cage, Jesus Christ Pose and Black Hole Sun a listen.

Jane's Addiction are another great band from roughly the same era as Soundgarden. You should check out Stop!, Jane Says, Been Caught Stealing and Mountain Song by them.

Judging from the list you posted you'd probably like Arctic Monkeys. Their first album is worth checking out. I haven't heard too much from their other albums though.

I would like to reccommend Enigma. Their songs are out of this world, literraly.
It's a blend of different cultures, themes, musical instruments, whatever you like. I've been a fan for as long as I can remember. Gravity Of Love and Return To Innocence are known as their greatest songs, but there are plenty more that I've heard. Their songs are very exotic and range from subjects such as love, life, aliens, nature, magic and so on. Each album has its own character, for example, the album A Posteriori consits of songs that radiate around thoughts of space, visitors from another planet, alchemy, mystery and magic.

And if you haven't heard of Return To Innocence and Gravity Of Love here they are.

Also, I would like to reccommend you the site www.last.fm. All you have to do is download the scrobbler, which records the songs you listen on your player. You can see your habits, most played songs and people of simialar tastes. You get artist reccommendations, events near you, even free mp3 downloads. Before I joined it, I knew very little about music, but now I have over 200 artists in my library :awesome:

Hope I could help!

Heh. I shall assume you're not Chinese. Well, I'm in a Chinese Orchestra anyway... Got re-inspired by the music as well. :D

Maybe, if you're feeling a little weird. This piece should be interesting to listen to. It's probably not easy to appreciate the sounds in this one though, I admit. It's going to be our competition piece. And I would think after listening to it, I'm getting a little worried :P

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMzBQIERFvk

Alternatively, this one should be rather interesting. In English, this translates as Reminiscence of Yun Nan. Not sure about the background of this song.... I'm assuming it's written by some guy who thought Yun Nan was a nice place to remember? The focus is on the soloist though. Look at her hands... In the song, if I'm not wrong, her hand wouldn't get to rest... Typical of soloist, no?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cz5JwsDsyU8&playnext_from=TL&videos=HWJ53OjFW9g

I think that everyone will think I'm weird, but if you like any type of music, then I would recommend songs that I've heard and that I like. Well, here they are;

Song, artist:

1)My list-Toby Keith.
2)Where were you when the world stoped turnin'-Alan Jackson.
3)Deeper than the holler-Randy Travis.
4)Voice of the Voiceless-Heaven Shall Burn.
5)The weapon they fear-Heaven Shall Burn.
6)Give me all your lovin'-ZZ Top.
7)Keine lust-Rammstein.

Thats all I can think of right now. Enjoy!:x3:

More recommendations from me~

I saw the list of bands you like, and I didn't see Disturbed on there, so I'm going to recommend them. One of my favourite heavy metal bands, I think you may like them.
Samples: Haunted, Down With The Sickness, Rise

Going slightly heavier, I'd say there is no better death metal band than Chimaira. Their lyrics are quite appealing and, unlike a lot of death metal bands, some of their songs are quite catchy...plus the vocals are semi-understandable. XD
Samples: Kingdom of Heartache, The Venom Inside, Cleansation

Deathstars are a little-known band (at least, I've only come across two or three people who like their music. XD) who may appeal to you as well~
Samples: Night Electric Night, The Last Ammunition, Synthetic Generation

Symphony X's latest works are definetely worth a look-in, as well; I'd recommend their entire Paradise Lost album. Whilst they're quite a loud and heavy power metal band, their songs are quite melodic at points, which is quite nice.
Samples: Set The World On Fire, Paradise Lost, Eve Of Seduction

*may be back later with more*

I'm assuming you know most, if not all of the mainstream bands, so I'll focus on ones that aren't really well known. Mostly rock/metal stuff, but the Marty Friedman one will be a little different, but you might like it. :ryan: I have plenty of other stuff I could throw out there too, but I'll keep it at that for now.

I'll make a few suggestions now, but will try to avoid flooding you with stuff in one post. If that is what this post turns out to be, then I'm sorry. :D I probably should have taken what you do like and calculated what you may also like, but I felt (since you are asking us to suggest songs) that you are willing to give a lot of things a listen and try different things out.

First of all I’ll suggest some songs from Dead Can Dance.
I’ve just struggled to try and define what kind of music they are… Cultural, creative, ambient and gothic spring to mind, but I’m not sure if there is a clear definition of their style.
Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry are fantastic singers in their own rights and both of their solo work is quite impressive, but together in Dead Can Dance they are quite mind-blowing. Some songs are really atmospheric, and others really do make you want to dance, but not in the way that most music does.

They use a large variety of instruments and sing in many languages (at least I think they do... They could be singing in fictional languages for all I know), and have music inspired by a lot of cultures which they try to replicate. They’re really worth checking out.

Here is Rakim, played and recorded live (for Rakim I don’t think they ever recorded it in a studio, and the live version is the one you get on the albums):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Do5vj3D-OD4
(EDIT - Better quality here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itwL5y0He-k&a=r3zr1QJs_-U&playnext_from=ML - You'll need to skip the bit at the end)

If you don’t listen to any of the others then you should at least listen to Rakim.

Here is Summoning of the Muse:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkOQPovPU2A&feature=player_embedded

Here is Spiders Stratagem:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PskAH-6oSU

I probably haven’t really done them justice with that, but I have to stop somewhere.

For an oddball mention; Oingo Boingo is worth looking at, though I've only heard their stuff from when Danny Elfman was frontman. It's an 80's band that comes across as "Devo with a trace of insanity". "Just Another Day", "No One Lives Forever", "Nothing to Fear", and "Private Life" are some of my personal favorites.
[/FONT]

Yes!

If you haven't already, check Oingo Boingo out. I think Danny Elfman was always the front man when they were doing music though. Before that they were a very quirky theatrical troupe, fronted by Richard Elfman. When they focused on music they kept their quirky and entertaining attitude and put it into their music.

I’d add Little Girls, and Nothing Bad Ever Happens to Me to that list of songs worth checking out by Oingo Boingo.

Little Girls (Ha :D):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jItz-uNjoZA

Nothing Bad Ever Happens to Me:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQy5vKAaTuA

I think Danny Elfman is a legend. Crazy and hyperactive, but a legend nonetheless.

A few more suggestions…
Try out The Smiths. Their lyrics are amazing, and Morrissey is clearly a genius.

Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDiEiXFaQF4

I Started Something I Couldn’t Finish:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLsl0hzNBWY&feature=related

I’d post loads more but I want to avoid flooding as much as possible and these sprang to mind first.

I’ll also throw some Stereolab out there. I haven’t heard much of their stuff yet admittedly, but I’ve liked the few songs that I have heard. They’re a quirky band that draw from aspects of 1960’s lounge music.

Ping Pong:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoMAsAF81AU

Fluorescences:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TMoy6DNTO4

Voltaire is another artist I have to throw out there. I understand that with most people he is an acquired taste, or not liked at all, but there’s no harm in trying. He’s a gothic folk musician who often sings humorously (on themes such as death, zombies, vampires, pirates and Star Trek, but mostly death), and also has some great normal (ish) songs out there. That description doesn’t do him justice, and I’m running out of time to go further into that, but I’ll throw him in here anyway.

When You’re Evil:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUITn7I9-f0

The Sexy Data Tango (Star Trek ftw):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DYrlt3CyaE

Almost Human:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFkOYRl5hTM

Dia de los Muertos (this is the English version, but I prefer the Spanish version as it sounds better, but it appears to have been removed from Youtube):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxNkyoPlvCI&feature=related

If you have never tried David Bowie before then you should really check him out too. I shouldn’t need to explain him much as I can imagine that most people know who he is.

I’ll suggest some of his songs which are easier listening, in my opinion, and some of my favourites.

Loving the Alien:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65EJCzqOzdc

Ashes to Ashes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMThz7eQ6K0

Sound and Vision:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhW7pD_cC50

Space Oddity:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYMCLz5PQVw

I’ll end with some Depeche Mode as they have a lot of decent stuff out there which you might enjoy, perhaps. I’ll just throw two songs down which spring to mind first.

Enjoy the Silence:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGSKrC7dGcY

Personal Jesus:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNd4eocq2K0&feature=channel

/me is done unless more is wanted.

I’m not sure… All of that might not be your thing, but I thought I’d throw some variety in there. :monster:

Last.fm, as others have suggested, is probably a very good idea. Even if you don’t want to use it to find new music and songs that you might like it is good to keep track of what you do like.

(While I have essentially sat here finding videos to put in here for an hour it hasn't entirely been a waste of time, even if you don't like them. It was good to look through that stuff anyway. :awesome:)

I'll be sure to look at what you suggested :]

(I looked at some, but not all)

thanks again =)

+rep for youuu

The Clash - London's Calling
Radiohead - Kid A and OK Computer
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures and Closer
Bob Dyland - Blood on the Tracks
The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street and Sticky Fingers
Nick Drake - Pink Moon

last.fm is your friend. Seriously, I've discovered a good 3-4 bands that I like through it, and I rarely even use it.

Well, there's a melodic hardcore/pop-punk band called Four Year Strong that is pretty good, which is basically very good because I usually only like Green Day and Blink-182 when it comes to pop-punk. For progressive death metal we have Between the Buried and Me and Opeth. For a progressive metal band in general, look at Mastodon or Scale the Summit. Two VERY different bands, but both very good.

Examples:
Four Year Strong - Heroes Get Remembered, Legends Never Die
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6R5ysL36BGg

Between the Buried and Me - All Bodies (note that newer songs have more genre mixing, such as Ants of the Sky, but those songs are also extremely long)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM-jeJylNow

Opeth - The Funeral Portrait
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ijpBdyyRUg

Mastodon - Divinations
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxelXPg961M&feature=channel

Scale the Summit - The Great Plains (instrumental band, just a note)
