Recommended Team

Perfect Team is
Fighter
Fighter
B. Mage
W. Mage

i had two file with the following teams:

1st:
warrior
theif
w. mage
b. mage

2nd:
monk
monk
monk
monk

i decided with monks on my second file because of the challenge.

My team was always: Warrior, Monk, White Mage, Black Mage

Monks are pretty powerful with just their fists.

I'm using Warrior, Monk, White Mage and Black Mage and I'm doing pretty well. Warrior, Warrior, White Mage and Black Mage works well also.

warrior
black mage
black mage
white mage

Would be good. You can get flare for both black mages and make the final battle go much faster.

Fighter
Black Belt
White/Black Mage

Black Belt's pretty brutal in the beginning, but once you get to level 9 or so you don't have to equip him with anything. By level 20 he's hitting foos about fifty times for 9,000,000 damage.

Worrior
Red Mage
Black Mage
White Mage

This is the team im currently using and its going pretty well. I find what the red mage lacks in mp hit makes up for in attack , if well equiped. The red mage acan pick up all the spells that you cant get with the others...well mostly.

Yes. And a party of full Red Mages is also a nice choice, as they are extremly over-powered.

Yeah, but towards the end of the game Red Mages get weak so it's not really a good choice to have a Party of them unless you go to fight Chaos with everyone at Lvl 99

+ Warrior
+ Monk
+ White Mage
+ Black Mage

A good well rounded choice because everyone of them has weaknesses that another one has as a strength, it's a wise option to have an even Party.

TIP: at the beginning of the game, try using your Monk without a weapon equipped, if you've trained hard enough, by the time you fight Astos he should deal over 600 dmg (6 hits) with 1 attack, compared to a Warriors 400-450+ dmg (3-4 hits) with one attack.

I'd say get a few hitters in there, then one Healer. I'm not big on Magics really, so I'd go with 2 Warriors, 1 White Mage, and finally Thief.

I don't really know what to recommend but i used a Warrior, Thief, White Mage, and Black Mage. I only chose a thief because he will turn into a ninja and they can use a little black magic and I'm a big Magic fan.

Well, considering all of the enemies that require a Black Mage or Red Mage to kill them, and the incredible convenience of killing 9 enemies in one spell, a Black Mage is virtually mandatory in any strong team. Going without a cure unit will result in a quick death, so you need a White Mage, too. So you're really left with two units to choose from, and in virtually every team you have a Warrior (the heavy hitter), so that leaves you with one unit left. In my opinion, there's no reason to just double the awesome Warrior damage levels by adding another Warrior- Thieves and Monks just don't cut it for me in the long run.

Actually I don't think thieves are that bad. I equipped mine pretty nicely and they hit so often (around 8 times right now for me) that they even do more damage then my warrior. Plus warriors cost a lot to have because they can wear so much stuff and it all costs a lot.

There wasn't almost any enemies in that game at all that had weaknesses to elements and certainly none of the bosses had strong weaknesses either. I think if you went with 3 Warriors and a White Mage you'd do the best. I went with 3 Warriors and a Red Mage and had no problem, despite the fact that the Red Mage lacked higher healing abilities.
